The 122ft Super Yacht AWOL departs Seven Stars shipyard in Pisa with 2 tug boats pulling her down the long canal. With low bridges and shallow depths, Motor Yacht AWOL must navigate herself safely to the open sea. The bridges are so low that the radar mast was removed in order to get her out to sea as she passes the vast sun flower fields and the Camp Derby military base.

Does AWOL have a comparable amount of visibility to other super yachts? Having watched a few of your videos I was thinking AWOL would benefit from having a stern station for docking manoeuvres. I don't know anything about boating, I just watch a little too much youtube and am interested.

I imagine it's a emotional thing to get back to sea. It always was for me. When the word is passed, "underway, making way" I almost cried. Lol. Great job Skipper, fair winds.

I'm just an ordinary people... but always dreaming to own this kind of yacht. I'm always watch a 'boat show', 'aquaholic', and so on while lying on my bed before I sleep. I know its impossible for me to own it but, dreaming is free right... ;) And last night I found this channel and I think it a must for me to subscribe and ring the bell. Keep bringing more dream to me capt!! Kudos from Malaysia!!

Good day Tristan. Don't forget what draws many viewers. It's the old adage that if you have to ask how much the gas would cost, you can't afford the boat. Well I just can't imagine tug boats, or dry docking, or any of that. WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT COST keeps racing through my mind. Keep the numbers coming. Use the 1980's Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous as your benchmark. Candidly, impress us by comparing it to our poverty (figuratively). I love your channel. Keep up the great videos!

Those are small tugs. The tugs on the Panama Canal are massive power tugs. My close friend was a captain on a canal tug and I used to go with him frequently. You don't really realize the power until you push or pull on a large ship. That's when the tug bares down and shows its impressive power. I am sure you are familiar with the term "red on the right returning", referring to chanel buoys? The term refers to the red color buoys are on the right, and the green on the left when entering into any port or harbor. If the red buoys are on your left, that means you are leaving the port. Great video as always captain. Thanks for sharing.
@MrTrapper28

You have got your colours round the wrong way. When entering a port/Chanel from the sea Red bouys on your left (portside) and green on the right (starboard side to) is correct . Opposite for when leaving!

Why do you use tugs, depth of canal, with etc, I noticed a yacht going past you when you were tied up to take on radar and he wasn’t being towed? Also what did you mean about engineering watching for mud? Also do you use specific lines for tugs, and how are they set up exactly on which cleats etc? Just curious?!!! Thanks again!

Tristan. Thanks for the channel and sharing the AWOL journey with us. First comment/question: You mentioned in an earlier video that you were getting an external mic to help with the sound (when you are not facing at the camera directly). Is that still happening? I would be interested to see if that improves the audio in those instances. Secondly: does AWOL have some sort of ballast system that can control your draft in shallow waters? I was wondering that when you mentioned how muddy the canal bottom was. Keep the content coming. I really enjoy your video’s.
