i think the real issue is how poorly the character even fits into the mcu. completely shoehorned into the thanos timeline and then hyped up only to still contribute absolutely nothing. it makes no sense because her character should theoretically 1v1 thanos no problems but she still gets slapped around

Nonono, the first avenger happens before captain marvel. The red skull has the tesseract (don't remember if they say how he got it), and by the end of the movie, Steve Rogers crashes his plane, freezing himself and the tesseract under the ice. He is then retrieved, so i guess that Lawson somehow stole the tesseract from a SHIELD base or she legally took possession of it for the excuse of research or sth, i guess?

I think WHEN they released this movie was a mistake. This was the last standalone character movie before Endgame. At this point, we were so far invested with heroes we’d been following for the past 10 years (Iron Man, Cap, etc), inserting Captain Marvel right before all the closure for the other characters in Endgame feels forced
