Thor also fucked up Thanos with and without the gauntlet. Thor was easily the strongest character in the Battle of Wakanda as he leveled hundreds of enemies, destroyed transport ships by himself and sunk Stormbreaker in Thanos' chest through a full strength gauntlet beam. If it wasnt for Thors need to gloat to Thanos that decapitation at the beginning of Endgame would have happened sooner.

Thor's power is the same, but with Mjolnir and Stormbreaker his power can be focused to do more damage. If we go by comics, you're right about his hammers being built as counters. They're nearly completely impervious to energy and magic. So going by comics, Thor didn't overpower the Infinity Stones. His hammer nullified their effects on it

I mean, let's be blunt, the reason why people hate this is that CM's story is just bland and forced. If we take Thor vs Captain Marvel it's not hard to see why. Thor Ragnarok: "I was born strong, but quickly realized I was not strong enough. I then endured hardships and worked hard to become stronger." Thor Infinity War: "I needed to become as strong as can be to defeat an impossible foe. I nearly died obtaining a power that could defeat Thanos." Captain Marvel: "Someone else gave me my powers, but I was really the strongest all along I just didn't know it." Captain Marvel's story is just simply not inspiring. There's nothing in her story that makes her worthy of being the strongest. Someone just decided to make her the strongest and everyone else is like "LoL what can you do?" It's akin to Naruto and Sasuke going through all their hardships in Naruto, then Sakura (who had one decent arc and was crap the rest of the manga) just suddenly ended up 1v1ing Kaguya. It would make no sense, she wouldn't have earned it, and everyone would think of how completely uninspired it is.

Thor has had how many films to develop? Marvel has had 1. Yes Thor is more developed and like I've said, has shown perhaps the most development as a character in mcu - which is why he's my favorite. But if you look at the fact that they simply didn't have time to do multiple CM films, they did a really good job for only just one film. Compare to Thor's development in his first film... CM's did a way better job. Also the style of character growth is similar for both characters. Thor gets beat down? He gets back up and grows stronger from the experience. He learns for next time. The same is shown for CM if you actually pay close attention to the film when they are showing her history on earth and when she's battling against the mind control device and Kree AI. Sure Thor is more developed, but in consideration of what time has been afforded each character, CM did a great job... better than half the Avengers cast we know and love. Also Thor is much more mortal/human in the movies than in the comics of old. Which just makes him all the more lovable. Sure he's got superpowers, but he isn't some nigh immortal being that only becomes killable via a single kryptonite. CM is supposed to be your everyday American girl. The one that played sports with the boys growing up because she was competitive. The one who worked hard, sometimes had to overcome prejudice, and earned all her accomplishments. She isn't perfect. She isn't a supermodel. Nothing was spoon fed to her to give her an easy life. And yeah you could say... but her powers weren't earned - neither were so many of the others: Cap, Ant-man, Hulk. Yet they didn't instantly manifest into her being some unstoppable being. They again resulted in pain, trial, and failures before she truly began to learn how to harness them for good. It's not some movie saying women are better than men or equal to men just because they're women like haters would imply. It's a movie that speaks to humanity's capacity to pick themselves up from their mistakes, learn from them, and never give up striving to make the world a better place. I always just laugh when in comics they say faster than speed of light, like 3 times, 9 times. From Maxwell equation it is clearly stated that nothing can go faster than light and because of how light particles or photon works even assuming if one attain a speed of light for that person light would still travel at the speed of light from that person. It just doesn't make sense even in fictions, the only thing that can outmatch speed of light as of now is there is space warp or wormhole which is not even a theory as much as it is fiction.

However, irrespective of that there are constant in the universe which comics like to use a lot and one of them is speed of light, since as I explained speed of light is something that cannot be outmatch because of its property and since its a universal constant there is no reason for any comics writers to write some superhuman to be able to go faster than light specially when they do not have anything to come up with the reason behind how one is able to travel faster than speed of light. It completely destroyed logic and reasoning without having explanation even if its a fictional explanation.

Of course thats not answer that any of us want to hear. Light has zero mass and I feel that fiction constantly negates that fact when characters with mass can ascend the speed of light. There is no next teir of speed, just faster then light or FTL+, FTL++. The contradictory between science and fiction is cool to think about which is why i continue to think about it in awe instead of confusion and frustration. There are characters that punch dimensions wide open, stones that can delete the entire universe with a snap, genius scientists that can invent time travel. The living tribunal alone is questionable. There are only a handful of answers to these questions. The only thing is that the answers themselves are fictional, but this is a fictional world it is set in created by its own god. Of course god dosent take place in science but in this universe he is real. He governs everything. All you can do is marvel at it

Strange doesn't have multiversal feats. He has fucked with universal concepts and people like Dormammu, but even peak bullshit Strange was weaker than peak bullshit Loki in a straight magic fight. Honestly I was just afraid that after 22 movies, an insane amount of character development, and so many new characters that have been introduced, that Captain Marvel would just show up out of the blue and beat Thanos with ease, just furthering the Woman-Power agenda Brie Larson was going for. So when I saw Captain Marvel directly confront Thanos I was like, “crap, here we go”, but the Russo brothers didn’t let us down. She got the power slap of the century when Thanos grabs the power stone with his bare hands and hits her with it, and you don’t even see her the rest of the movie. To give the final victory to anyone but Iron Man would have been an abomination.

In the comics Loki was able to hold his own against the Silver Surfer who's in a completely different league to Captain Marvel and most heroes on Marvel Earth. Carol could barely even handle a Skrull with a fraction of Hulk's powers in Secret Invasion so don't you dare say she's anywhere near the Hulk's level.

ENDGAME SPOILERS . . . . . . Captain Marvel wasn't even the strongest character in Endgame. Scarlet Witch 1v1ed Thanos and would have killed him if he hadn't ordered an airstrike from his ships. And unlike Captain Marvel, this actually makes some sense with her comic book portrayal, since she's been shown in some cases to have enough power to manipulate reality (although her power level is pretty inconsistent).

Then CM comes in, blows up Thanos' ship, gets headbutted by Thanos and doesn't flinch (that part shocked me) and Thanos has to use an Infinity Stone to defeat her. Oh and Ronan was intimated by her and he was barely intimated by Thanos. However, I'm still confident Thor and Scarlet Witch are the MCU's strongest characters and then Doctor Strange then Captain Marvel.
