Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau are completely different characters, they’ve met in comics and they both exist in the Captain Marvel movie. She is being set up for future Marvel Movies and will definitely get her chance to shine.

@@loonathegwonch6653 Except now she'll have to ride in on the coattails of her white counterpart. Marvel had the chance with this movie to make Monica the main captain Marvel and frankly they had more reason to do it, but instead, they blew it, now Monica fans have to settle for the hope that she'll get her chance to shine. And I'm calling it a hope because we have absolutely no confirmation that she'll be getting her own movie anytime soon.

Because _education_ is not the same as _knowledge_ or _wisdom_ : modern education is about telling people how to think with flimsy and even untrue assertions presented as _facts_ while knowledge is a collection of principles and truths that, when combined with the (lost) art of critical thinking applied to our experiences, help us gain wisdom.

@IyaEarthseeds People of Color are not some monolith. We do not all think alike just because we don't have white skin : / How is being a minority in any country derogatory? You actually think blacks in the US are called minority because people deemed us minor or less than and not because we only make up 13% of population, which is an actual minority in a majority white demographic? I'm curious, so it seems it's considered PC to call us non-whites, POC, so is it PC to call us "colored" again like how it was decades ago?

By that that time almost every body living in the Iberian peninsula was mixed (goths with Arabs) (basques with Arabs) (Catalons with Arabs) By the time they came to Mexico they enter mingled even more. So being Spaniard ain’t even a race either. But you blacks wow you guys really got the nerve to deny your background and deny that you are African !!!!!!!!! ATLEAST I DONT DENY THAT IM MEXICAN WHO LIVES AND THRIVE OUT OF COAHUIL-TEJAS !!! It’s all one word I just put the dash so your able to pronounce it correctly

@Quick Patch white women change their hairstyles all the time too so don't give me that "subtly bullied" crap! schools and workplaces are allowed to have rules on hairstyles and Clothing, just because you don't like those rules doesn't mean they're racially motivated! And thirdly it maybe "natural" for an African's hair to grow into a massive "fro" but it's also natural to not wear clothes! You can't just say it's natural like that trumps everything...Have you considered that maybe just maybe "fros" just went out of fashion sometime in the early 90s? People associate the name Captain Marvel to Captain Mar-Vell. They associate Carol with Captain Mar-Vell. There is that history with him and the Kree that made sense to them to have Carol take over the name. And it makes sense for them to use the current version of the character in the movies over the one from 15 years ago. Hell in fact before people were throwing out Monicas name as the one they should have used they were saying how they should have used Mar-Vell first. People kept saying how the character was originally a man, now it is a black woman. Well now the character is a tall blonde woman. The current.

They had five people write on Captain Brie and this was the best they could come up with in terms of even referencing Monica, by turning her into Kamala lite. I still feel that no one on board the writing team knew anything about the characters as a whole otherwise they wouldn't have changed so much without understanding how it effects EVERYONE around the character. Even Mar-Vell wasn't free from this and not just because of the gender-bend. What about his children? Do they still exist and if not, they just erased two LGBT characters (of his three kids) in one swoop all for the sake of 'diversity'. Never fucking hire slacktivist for any movie you do and if they haven't heard of the character, make sure they know about it before taking the deep dive in. Is that so much to ask for?

Very compelling to have a movie coming out of Africa twice with proud African heroes. However, they stole the black American hero and one who is said to probably be the most powerful among superhero’s and made her the Barbie doll of comic film. Get Monica in Cap Marvel 2 with her powers and have Danvers take a new name deferring CM to Monica

Yes, Ms. Williams and the topic, too. Marvel just....well, should we be surprised when Marvel is ran by that darn Mouse? I bet that there was a Disney suit in the mix that has never picked up a comic book in his/her life dictating that it shall be Carol Danvers. For the umpteenth time, Captain Marvel is the Big Red Cheese that is really a kid named Billy Batson or seven kids from a foster home (depending on which version) who says "Shazam!" for DC Comics. Captain Marvel is Monica Rambeau, the first African American female superhero with that name and in the Avengers for Marvel Comics. Carol Danvers is Ms. Marvel who gained her powers by hanging around Mar-vell and getting some Kree dna mixed in her system. She later lost her powers to Rogue who siphoned them off via Mystique's urging. Later, Carol got some powers back and become Binary. After that tapped out, she became Ms. Marvel again. Not Captain Marvel, but Ms. Marvel.

I agreed with what you said said about Monica Rambeau. James Baldwin talked about how black men and women with more Caucasian features are more accepting in the mainstream, so that may be the reason for Rambeau looking the way she has been currently looking. Also, drawing black people or any ethnicity can be frightening for an artist because they don’t want to draw a stereotype and be labeled racist. I have artist friends who are just plain scared to draw black people.

It's not that hard, look at how animators use to draw African Americans back then and DON'T do that. Don't draw your black characters jet black. Don't have them talk in ebonics all the time(if they use slang here and there it's cool). Talk to more black people and get their perspective, learn more about black culture. There's never an excuse to why you can't draw outside the caucasian race

i understand . it can be difficult to make different characters of the same race look different. superman can look like batman and shazam; just change the hair style. those same facial features can be found in cpt america, hawkeye, male cpt marvel, and johnny storm ; just change the hair color. drawing black people may also be difficult in trying to not have them all look the same. how do you make powerman look different from james rhodes , black panther, sam wilson? but with black people you can change hairstyle (afro, flat top, crew cut, bald) . black females have more hairstyles to choose from . but who will dictate skin tone ? if you look at black characters in comic books, they all have the same medium- dark skin tone pretty much. (but white characters have the same skin tone as well) . no one will dictate that any black character will be light, dark, or medium; it might cost too much or cause too many headaches with different artists. or it may cause an uproar with the black community (too many light skinned characters vs dark skin characters) . if you go back to Milestone comics, there was an effort to draw black characters differently , skin tone and all .

Bingo! I couldn't agree more. And even though both are equally beautiful, strong, black women. Why did they go from one version, one shade, of black woman beauty all the way over to the other end of the color, shade (and features) wheel? Yeah...we know why and it's insulting.

Yeah and none of these Captain Marvel characters went to fight thanos in the infinity Gauntlet Crossover. They didn't fight him in the Celestial Quest. I don't think Marvel is racist. I think that Captain Marvel was boring regardless of her color. Storm is black, she kicks ass so there will not be a white storm. Same for all of the other black heroes. One account of changing of a race doesn't mean there was a racial biase involved.

I liked the Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel, and enjoyed reading her character in The Avengers. I think she is still a good character. And she still MIGHT be in the MCU. Carol's sister-pilot is codenamed PHOTON! Maria "Photon" Rambeau's daughter is named MONICA! They very cleverly set up the next Captain marvel to be African-American in the not too distant future. She just wasn't the Captain Marvel of the 1990's MCU time-line. They left plenty room in this Captain Marvel for the next.

Very well researched. I liked everything in the video except one thing: You said that Monica looked like a white woman around the 13 minute mark, but she still looked very black. She just had straight hair. Between badass Nick Fury being turned into "good cop", and Monica Rambeau being turned into a white-worshipping kid, there is a VERY strong argument for the "white saviour" trope in Captain Marvel.

And your not lying, they changed Monica's complexion from a black woman to a very light skinned black woman & that's not cool.
