Probably Tom Hanks best scene

And Tom Hanks wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar that year. But it was a crazy stacked year, it was Leo in Wolf of Wallstreet, Mcconaughey in Dallas buyers club, Christian Bale in American Hustle, Ejiofor in 12 years a slave and Bruce Dern in Nebraska. Underrated year for sure, inside llewyn Davis, all is lost, prisoners (Hugh jackman should’ve been nominated) her, snowpiercer, gravity, under the skin, captain philips, gravity, act of killing. Great year for movies

The girl treating him in the medbay was a real US Navy medic, not an actress. She was told to do what she would do as though this was a training exercise.

Hanks' acting the part of someone traumatized and disoriented was unbelievable. The navy corpsman treating him also did an outstanding job.

This movie is incredible. It felt SO real and you could feel the fear, desperation, and suspense through the screen. The acting was absolutely phenomenal. The pirates (Muse, played by Barkhad Abdi) in particular, were incredible actors and it was hard to believe they weren’t real pirates. The last scene with Tom Hanks had me shaken to my core as well. He did an amazing job portraying trauma and shock… it was mind-blowing acting!
@penoyer793 ай бұрын
the medic was a real navy medic. the director told her to treat him like any other patient. she froze up star struck on the first take and tom hanks joked with her that he was supposed to be the one in shock. the 2nd take is the one that they used. the captain of the ship they were on was standing next to the director. he had tears in his eyes and he said "i've seen trauma before and that's it."

Fire reaction girls as this is based on a true story. This can happen anywhere, like the Jessica Buchanan rescue by the Seal Team 6. The pirates are eating cot. Barkhead Adobi stole this film and won nominated for an Academy Award. Only if Eminem had a song on here it would be fire.

By international law, it is extremely difficult to arm cargo ships
@larrybremer49307 ай бұрын
Legally they can be armed in international waters since hardly any regulation applies there. The problem is they have to enter territorial waters and ports in different countries where gun laws vary wildly or are outright illegal to bring into the country. With no international standard it's just too difficult for a ships owner to assure local legal compliance and it's not good for business to risk being accused of smuggling guns, having your crew arrested and prosecuted, and ship seized.

Cargo ships don't do any fishing, so they can't be anything to do with a lack of fish in the sea.

The western and Chinese corporations dumped a lot of waste in their water and use what little fishing spots they have. So they see all foreigners are the same regardless of what job they are doing

@@74myo That's ridiculous & the cargo ships are using international waters.
@74myo7 ай бұрын
@@andrewq159 But Thats Just how they view it from there perspective. Theres a history of foreign corporations exploiting Somalian coast line. So they dont care about the specifics of international laws, they see everything as fair game. There was a journalist on Joe Rogan Podcast who was taken hostage by Somalian pirates. He goes well in depth how the culture of piracy is over there. And you have to remember its mostly psycho warlords who call the shots, so not much reasoning and logic behind their organizations
