Crane hoists spa pool out of Captain Tom's daughter's unauthorised building as it is demolished
Sir Captain Tom sprung to fame for walking laps of his garden during the Coronavirus pandemic, raising millions for charity before dying almost three years before his daughter had to tear down his namesake luxury spa.

Where's the voice of the RSPCA over halal slaughter? Where's the voice of the British heart foundation over excess deaths? Their silence is deafening! Give them nothing, support local charities

That's a completely different debate and one you'll lose. The reason managers of charities are paid relatively highly is because in order to get suitably skilled people these organisations need to pay the market rate. Of course, that in itself doesn't always guarantee that they get the intended result. However, one thing of which you can be pretty sure, is if they didn't pay the going rate they certainly wouldn't get the right people; with the occasional exception of one or two retired executives that are willing to contribute their time. Like it or not, charities are businesses and are forced to function as such. Incidentally, I'm not talking about the case in point here. The Moore family are not a charity organisation. They're just a bunch money-grabbers who saw an opportunity to profit from the commendable and honest efforts of Captain Moore, tarnishing his legacy in the process.

A bit of sadness to see perfectly good building material smashed up when an easy solution to the spa would have been to let patients from the NHS use it, or nursing staff on a bit of R&R. This episode has tarnished Captain Toms legacy. Truly a pity.
@kavasir7042
@kavasir7042 4 ай бұрын
yes it's a waste and could have been dismantled properly and with care, she and her husband would have no doubt had that option to do so before the council had it pulled down. Probably impractical for the NHS to fund and maintain such a building that is probably not even built to spec with the facilities and access required for people with disabilities. Not to mention its on their private land and not the NHS so anytime in the future they could pull the plug and tell the NHS or anyone wanting access to jog on. Would have been honest and respectful to Captain Tom and his legacy if they used the money to buy facilities for a local hospital or local medical centre.

The ironic thing is, as a registered charity, you can lawfully pay yourself (a certain percentage) so you're set for life. These yokels were not as smart as they thought, and were just plain GREEDY.

Terrible daughter, how could she wreck her elderly father's legacy? She got greedy and she is already living in a £1,000,000 mansion. Other people would have been in court for stealing from a charity.

Shouldn't have been built with that money, what a waste, should have been made to sell it with the house and then the money should have gone to a proper charity.

I can only speak for my local NHS Trust, but it had nothing to do with managers. The money was distributed to the trust's charitable funds. They are nothing to do with hospital management. Departments were invited to pitch ideas that required funding, and it was the charity directors that decided where the funds should go, not managers. I'm 99% certain that this is a legal requirement. If a patient or charity donates to a hospital, it has to be spent independantly from the main budget. Otherwise hospital managers might well spend it on rubbish.

@@markrainford1219 Hi Mark . If you just Google CEO Salary Surveys several will come up . I went for The Guardian one . Although it's a 2003 one , for example .... Even then , Andrew Freemantle , CEO of the RNLI was on £105,000 p.a. and that doesn't include pension contributions paid to him too.

@@markrainford1219 just Google charity CEO Salary Surveys Mark . I downloaded the Guardian one which is from 2003 but I couldn't get a more up dated one . However that year in itself is an eyeopener . For example it has the RNLI CEO as £105,000 p.a. not counting pension contributions . I've just checked for an up date on that and the CEO changed in 2019 and the salary then had risen to £160,000 p.a. not counting pension contributions . Fancy making a donation Mark ?
