I don’t like it when people get excited in the cockpit but we don’t know the whole story. Sounds like the PF did a go around without the automation and the PM didn’t like it. If the PF wasn’t in control of the airplane, the PM was right to command him - albeit his delivery was rough. From not being established on the approach to doing a hand flown missed, sounds like he had trouble commanding the aircraft.

@@Treetopflyer777 You do not just take over in a high stress go around situation, you will not do the FO a favour. Know your limits. Finish through the standard crew resource management go-around procedures and command with a loud voice to wake up the disoriented FO what he is missing and let him correct it, which was what the Captain did. You cannot baby talk the FO if he froze. Tell him what to do and he will learn. It was safe enough not to take over the controls. If the Captain did take over, he will traumatize the FO and the FO won't learn anything. The flight instructors have a high threshold of tolerance before taking over the controls. The Captain was cool as you would know it in his voice when he communicated with ATC. A go-around in a highly busy airport are one of the more aggressive situations in a pilot's life.

@@BuddySpike101 Woke nonsense If shouting caused crashes, then who the hell hired those pilots? Until recently they were usually ex military so presumably they can take being yelled at but if people who's former job involved other people attempting to kill them cause a crash from being yelled at then I'd say you have a shit pilot. How many people get into arguments in heavy traffic and don't kill anyone? Surely the man or woman making 6 figures flying a plane around can take a yelling. And the reputation for being calm is from talking to passengers, you don't want 40-100 plus people freaking out when they're panic can lead to further issues or death.

It’s not about being woke it’s about delivering information in a calm and controlled manner and never escalating the situation. How it works for military pilots is they will tell you a few times calmly and if you don’t do it you are out. Even when I was flying with the RAF they never shouted at me. I’m not going to pile on because I wasn’t in the flight deck and we don’t know what exactly was happening. I’ve flown with low and mid experienced FO’s and previously student pilots who have completely frozen up when something unexpected happened, and it took a voice several octaves above normal to get a reaction from them, but that usually followed saying the same thing at least twice ( ok now pull up a little…. pull up now…. PULL UP) Having said that, if they are non responsive or clearly not doing what they should be, the next response should be “MY CONTROLS” and take over. If a single loud command doesn’t fix the hesitation then allowing them to continue flying while shouting/barking/screaming commands isn’t going to fix the situation. Get the aircraft back to a safe position, take the temperature down a few notches, and have the discussion after landing about what happened.
