Great video. One tip is hit thrift stores. I picked up a manfrotto tripod with ball head in a thrift store for $12.00 about 3 years ago.

I built one of these this week and I like it very much. I used the digital camo Duck tape ,thats all I could find other than black. I got the tripod at Goodwill ,so I only have $25 in the whole thing. I looked into the M-LOK device that was mentioned in the comments on one of the videos,but it only fits the expensive tripod. I think this one is more versatile for multiple rifles. THANK YOU for the idea guys!!!

Great practical video. I was a commerical photographer so now I have a use for a bunch of Manfrotto tripods! Their plate is very heavy duty. Using the U plate for a 4x4 post is a great time saver. Thanks!

Totally beats hauling a table and big, full sized folding chairs to a shoot! Really great DIY video series! Can't wait to get started on mine. As mentioned in part 1, I'm going to get a tripod that has a minimum height of 24-inches, but extends to at least 70-inches, so that I do not have to bend over too far when shooting in standing position. Really cool idea using back pack for stabilizing the tripod! Thanks again for sharing, AGW.

I was gift a manfrotto/ Bogen 3221 tripod so of course I had to make one of these. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this series. I ended up going with a gardening pad and gorilla tape. I turned out great, it is pretty heavy though. Thanks again

Outstanding Video. Starting Tripod Project now, only missing metal bracket. Perfect Accessory for going to Open ranges with the option of not dragging heavy tables.

use a cord or strap/sling to wrap arround the front of the tripod leg, and off the front of the rifle. takes the bounce out of the scope. use your hand to roll adjust.

Sweet. This is exactly what I've been contemplating for a while. Haven't been into photography for a long long time and I can now put some of the dusty equipment to good use. And this "mini-series" just confirmed my thoughts on making it a reality. Thanks for the insight.

Smith victor makes some good tripods. Manfrotto quality but not as expensive. My cf3 weighs 2.5 lbs and I can use it standing (im 6'2'')or adjust legs length and angle to where it will work as a bench top rest at less than a foot tall. I have had 35 lbs on it no problem.

Great idea, quick question though. After spending 10 minutes talking about screws and if your keeping your mount on yours, why put the nut through the top? Why not put a washer, a screw so it’s flat? The nut would be underneath where it’s hollowed out.

What about the use of a rifle sling to minimize muzzle jump ? Does the quality of the tripod dictate the use of a sling to minimize the muzzle jump ? Seen youtube video of using a carbine /rifle sling to attach to your belt .

Great video. Going to be making mine soon. I only know of one company who makes a QD tripod mount adapter. Unfortunately it's kind of proprietary. It only fits M-lok rails and Monfroto tripod heads. Do you know of any adapters that would be strong enough to directly mount to the rifle without stressing the rails or tripod head that are not proprietary to those two systems I mentioned above?
@jhalscott5 жыл бұрын
There are Arca Swiss and Manfrotto M LOK adapters. You can buy a cheap Arca Swiss plate with threaded bottom to easily adapt too.

Weight......my tripod leg extensions always want to slide closed when I'm using it in the standing position. I had to drill little holes in the legs and drop little pins through to stop them from sliding closed. Is there a better way? I unfortunately run a pretty heavy bolt gun.
@CaptainBerz9 жыл бұрын
Dustin McGinnis Probably a tripod which is a little more robust is the answer. That shouldn't happen, possibly fault latches. Maybe contact the company, etc.

Try to source an older but quality tripod from a thrift shop if you want to do this on the cheap. I got a very solid tripod that was meant for some huge outdated camcorder for $15. $3.50 worth of hardware and some paint, tape, and padding I already had put this project in at under $20. Thanks for the video/info!

I just picked up 3. all different sizes, all with same QD mount. all for $5 each. scour your local craigslist and Facebook garage sale site. if anyone needs help finding one, just gimme a shout.
