Very informative, Iv just started getting into fpv after years of wanting to, just got a controller to use on a simulator before building a drone which has a lipo battery, tbh lipo’s put fear in me they’re going to burn my house down! I will be getting lipo safe storage bags for battery storage. It’s amazing how far ahead I was researching only to go backwards to learn about battery’s and charging. You really simplified how to understand lipo battery’s. Thanks 👍

I think its pretty straight forward with the awesome explanation you gave on how to set the charger up correctly for your lipo. I'm new so just to be clear for me, I have a SMC 6s 22.2V 4000mAh 120C lipo, so for the amperage I would input 4 amps? I have that Gens Ace charger (from your other video) which is awesome.
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 3 жыл бұрын
Correct. 4 amps is fine. Since your lipo is 120C you could even go higher like 5 or 6 amps if you are in a hurry. Just never leave such a large battery unattended when charging.

@ZeuZLoD 3 жыл бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Awesome, thank you! Now as im learning more and more about lipos and recharging them i've seen a few videos saying that if you go lower on the amps to slow the charge rate it helps preserve the lipo? Whats your thoughts on that?

@@fopp1 in America bangood takes a long time. Plus we have allot of options.. and I've heard other parts of the world banggood is the best. Dji backs there products. That's a big price difference.. I've always got what I ordered from banggood. But as far as warranty issues. I wasn't happy. But wasn't a reputable product i bought. As far as the bird..I would build. Your going to have to learn how to solder sooner or later. But I do understand why one would want a BNF too. So on that note. The 5 inch titan is way better! And easier to fix when or if you have too. If haven't flew much.. you'll break the DC3. And those small stacks ( flight controller and esc) are hard to solder on. So 5 inch way better. It's not hard at all to solder.. but I work construction so good with hands. But I could teach anybody how too. Any other questions just ask. God bless and have a greatday!

This already answered a bunch of questions. But I still have one, which I wouldn't mind seeing a review: how long does a battery take to charge up? This influences the amount of time you can fly the drone. Each flying session you go alone or with friends, for how long do you fly? You replace batteries every 5 minutes? Can you have a set of 10 batteries, plus the charger, and recharge 2 while you're flying, and then reuse those?
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 4 жыл бұрын
In the RC Hobby, you can select the time a battery takes to charge. Most people will buy quality batteries so that they can charge them much faster when necessary. Now if you are used to Camera Drones that come in a box with a supplied charger, then your mind may be thinking that you are stuck with waiting hours for a battery to charge.

I know this is old, so not super confident in a response, but here goes. Do you have a breakdown of how much you can push Amps based on C ratings? What the recommended safe min C is for fast charging (10A a 5000mAh , for example)?
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 Жыл бұрын
C rating is not the best item to go with as most are false. However, modern battery technology is very good construction wise. Now if you have a 5000 mAh lipo battery, you’d need a really good charger to push 10 amps. But to answer your question, if you wanted to push 10 amps into a 5000 mAh battery then it would be best that the battery was 50c or higher.

Hi Steve. Thank you for this video. If a drone has the option for 4S and 6S, should I choose the 6S version when ordering? And should I start learning to fly with 4S batteries, then move on to 6S when I am more experienced and want more power/speed? Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into these videos.

I would recommend to beginners to select a 4S drone and fly with 3S batteries. 6S drones have much lower KV motors and they do fly well with a 4S battery but I do find that the 4S is too much for a beginner and if you put a 3S battery on a 6S drone it sometimes flies strange, so that is why I would recommend the 4S drone with a 3S battery. Your choice.

Update: Captain Drone inspired me to buy a Mavic Mini. So my phone wasn't compatable. So I ordered a galaxy S6 that I will use for just the drone. I just recieved a set of Yagi silicone brass antenna boosters, and silicone prop holders. My s6 arrives friday as well as a new grey camo skin.. oh AND today I just ordered the aluminum replacment joysticks.. they look amazing... I'm going accessory crazy haha. .. BUT until the new used phone arrives I thought I couldn't fly the mini... I was wrong. U can use controller only. By powering both on and holding the sticks diagonal down and in or out. It is limited in its height and range for the time being but seeing that I can't see the cameras view live right now I wouldn't want it to go out of sight anyway so it'll hold me over for this week I'm just basically flying it around really close to me using controller only to get the hang of it my S6 will get here along with the skin on Friday and I'll be able to take it out for real but I highly recommend the latex prop holders and the yagi boosters I feel like I have all the accessories I need to make this thing amazing I just wanted to say thank you to Captain drone for his educational videos because they not only help seasoned veterans out but they help the new guys out as well and it's a much-needed thing to have a friendly face that you can trust thank you man

When breaking in a lipo battery, charge it up, run the battery down to around 20%. Let it cool for a while. Charge it up again and you should get a more uniform delivery of power, and potentially extended flight times. Don't let this type of battery drain too low. Typically if they get lower than 3v per cell, you damage the battery and it may not perform as well with drastically reduced performance. Cycle them a good few times before putting any faith in the bird.

Unfortunately if you check KZbin you'll find that each time someone tries to explain the FPV Hobby, it gets bogged down with too many rabbit holes talking about to many unnecessary items that the total beginner does not need to know until such time that they are in the hobby and enjoying it.

Oh I absolutely get that and honestly I'm watching your videos because I am one of them. I ask only because balancing your batteries, in my opinion, is not a "nice to know" topic and more of a safety concern. Seeing that the topic was charging lipo batteries for newbies, I thought it may be worthy of a quick explanation if nothing else. I was really hoping it was simply an oversight. Thanks again for all your hard work. To do these as well as you do must truly be a labor of love and it's appreciated.

Kurt Simmons Sorry, I thought you were referring to charging multiple batteries with a parallel board. When you charge a battery on these chargers the cells are balanced... you do not have to balance the separately like in the olden days. The only thing you will do with a charger is Charge or Store. The 3rd item of Discharge is rarely needed. If you watch my review on any specific battery charger I show and explain how all the different options work.

Very awesome and informative video, thank you for that ! I have a quick question regarding "c rating" of batteries... if you are a quad racer, you normally use a high rated "c" lipo... If you enjoy long distance slow flight for longer flight times, you use a low "c" rating... In regards to long distance slow flight for longer flight times, can you use a high "c" rating lipo and use low throttle on the quad to get the same flight time as a low "C" rating lipo ?
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 3 жыл бұрын
The "C" rating on the battery is also equal to the price of the battery. The higher the "C" rating the higher the price. This is why if you are not racing a drone or doing crazy freestyle, then a low "C" rating is fine and you save money. You can certainly place a high "C" rating battery on a long range drone but if you never use the extra power "punch" it has, then you are spending more money for little effect.

simple and fast, but how much can you push the charging amprage in relation to the C number of the battery? I know that if you increase the charging amps it will take less time to charge. thanks Steve.
@CAPTAINDRONE798
@CAPTAINDRONE798 4 жыл бұрын
The higher the "C" rating, the more you can push. So if you have a battery with a "C" rating of 100, you'd be very safe charging a 1300 mAh battery at twice the normal charge. So jumping up from 1.3 Amps to 2.6 Amps, which would potentially charge the battery in half the time. Only do this if you are in a hurry and never leave the battery unattended.
