I absolutely love your switches between bass and high baritone (or tenor? I'm not good at differentiating yet) - You placed the pitches perfectly in my opinion, with bass at the heavy drear parts, and the high parts at the moments where you feel the *frustration* in the song. The transition at 1:32 from bass to baritone was so smooth it sounded like two different singers, which I find incredible! The arrangement was great, it's always a treat to hear variation in covers! It makes them unique and makes the singer stick in your mind a lot more. I enjoyed it tremendously, especially the forceful choir at 2:14! It truly felt like someone desperately trying to reach through to others. And then the final verse- Gosh the chills! Going into the highest notes for the song, it really felt like it emphasized the fury and frustration of the singer - And the final bass at 3:39 perfectly rounded the entire experience. And interestingly, to me rather than feeling like a sad final note (like in Disturbed's version) or a resigned "I give up", it felt like it continued the anger - A deep, heavy growl. Absolutely fantastic arrangement, amazing vocals and range! I'm sorry I ramble without knowing all the terms, but you are an amazing singer and I enjoy your work a lot! As an added note, it's always wonderful hearing your accent in your songs!
@lisaroper4213 жыл бұрын

I have noticed his accent changes a bit between the registers too. Sometimes it feels as if it is two different people singing which obviously it isn't. I assume it is necessary to place the words differently in the oral cavity to produce the lower register than the high.

I think this really captures the best interpretation of this song. The unrealized potential of several billion people whose voices are left muted, a choir of silent singers. It's the promise of a song so grand and powerful when we all join in. Yes, there's frustration and distress because the singers are staying silent, but you can't be frustrated by something you don't WANT. This story has a happy ending. We're just not there yet.

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence
