there are different levels of bass, and Geoff is more of a low bass, which gives him that depth. he also has his age starting to work in his favor now, he's approaching the age where bass singers really get into their prime. but he also has decades of practice behind him, working on his voice since his teens. he's a great bass singer that inspires many young bass singers who look up to him for his work ethic, his voice and his personality.

My mother rarely sang in front of people, but if The Sound of Silence came on, she couldn't help herself. We lost her in May 2018 at 63 years young to cancer. At her memorial, we played The Sound of Silence and all sang along. Geoff, if she were still here she would have adored your recording of one of the greatest songs ever written. I have long said that no one would ever top Disturbed cover of this song. Geoff, you have proven me so very wrong sir. That literally took my breath away, shook my walls, and reduced me to tears. It was haunting, pained, hopeful and uplifting all in one song. You are truly in a league of your own sir. Bravo. Edit: To clarify, Disturbed's version is still my favorite, hands down. But this is on the same level. Like I would not judge someone for liking this one over the Disturbed version.

After watching and listening to this MANY, MANY times I have come to appreciate so many subtleties in voice layers, textures - ambient static sounds strategically placed, and the background sounds closing off in a suction sound at 2:58, and camera vibrations on the bass beats, the neon light shining subtlety on him during that verse... are powerful and effective visual and audio artistry done in a subtle way and playing with "sounds of silence". The dark background and moving camera gives a displaced feeling as if floating in space, with only a couple tangible things to latch on to (lamps and piano) to anchor the viewer. This version is so intimate and immersive. As I mentioned in another comment, the most powerful vocal part to me is the deep bass of the "wells of silence" at the end of the 4th verse and going into full rockstar mode in the 5th and my dream has come true. I'm waiting for an entire song by Geoff in high register and although this is just one verse - I LOVE IT SO MUCH. It shows just how amazing he is vocally to have such a vocal range. I am a vocalist who has been professionally trained and have sung all my life and I tell you, HE IS A GIFT FROM GOD. I'm also a visual artist and I love the simple yet powerful visual artistry shown in this video. It is professional, sophisticated and Geoff is improving with each and every video production he blesses us with. Also love the layers of background vocals that sounded louder in this song than in other covers and I love background vocals just as much as solo vocals. This video is next level stuff for Geoff right here. He's gained an experience level for sure (gaming verbiage here LOL). Continue growing visually and musically Geoff! You are my FAVORITE MUSICIAN!

I've been thinking about how well you tell this story. When I listen to other versions of this song, the melody is so repetitive and the lyrics are so abstract and poetic, I tend to lose track of what is actually going on in the song. But you start out so simple, with so much focus on the one voice, and then gradually add visual and musical elements as the song progresses, while still never getting in the way of the simplicity. It just . . . walks me through the narrative and I can follow it better than I ever have before.

I have a lyrics-first brain, and even so, in listening to others' versions of this song (even Simon and Garfunkel's original), I often forget that this song is someone describing a bad dream in detail, unless I stop to think about it.
