At the risk of making Geoff vain, I would just like to say that he looks magnificent with his hair tossed by the wind, the lights shining down on him, and the camera swooping around to capture the majesty of Geoff the rock star in action. 🤩 And then the arrangement, the beautiful voice, the cool video concept ... You know, maybe Geoff has earned the right to be just a little vain. A smidge. 😁

I have long said that no one would ever top Disturbed cover of this song. Geoff, you have proven me so very wrong sir. That literally took my breath away, shook my walls, and reduced me to tears. It was haunting, pained, hopeful and uplifting all in one song. You are truly in a league of your own sir. Bravo. Edit: To clarify, Disturbed's version is still my favorite, hands down. But this is on the same level. Like I would not judge someone for liking this one over the Disturbed version.

After watching and listening to this MANY, MANY times I have come to appreciate so many subtleties in voice layers, textures - ambient static sounds strategically placed, and the background sounds closing off in a suction sound at 2:58, and camera vibrations on the bass beats, the neon light shining subtlety on him during that verse... are powerful and effective visual and audio artistry done in a subtle way and playing with "sounds of silence". The dark background and moving camera gives a displaced feeling as if floating in space, with only a couple tangible things to latch on to (lamps and piano) to anchor the viewer. This version is so intimate and immersive. As I mentioned in another comment, the most powerful vocal part to me is the deep bass of the "wells of silence" at the end of the 4th verse and going into full rockstar mode in the 5th and my dream has come true. I'm waiting for an entire song by Geoff in high register and although this is just one verse - I LOVE IT SO MUCH. It shows just how amazing he is vocally to have such a vocal range. I am a vocalist who has been professionally trained and have sung all my life and I tell you, HE IS A GIFT FROM GOD. I'm also a visual artist and I love the simple yet powerful visual artistry shown in this video. It is professional, sophisticated and Geoff is improving with each and every video production he blesses us with. Also love the layers of background vocals that sounded louder in this song than in other covers and I love background vocals just as much as solo vocals. This video is next level stuff for Geoff right here. He's gained an experience level for sure (gaming verbiage here LOL). Continue growing visually and musically Geoff! You are my FAVORITE MUSICIAN!

Thanks, Geoff. Your creativity and your voice are just bonkers. I love watching people react to Voice Play the first time and when you hit some note in the cellar and they fall off their chair or throw things or just stop the video and say, HOW? He's not human. He's an alien. You have more people buying headphones to get the full experience. And in the group work you and Layne make sure everyone has a moment to shine. Music is the mystic oil that keeps the gears of life from grinding down around us.

Magic. That's it. Nothing else can explain this one. Somehow it leaves me speechless but with way too much to say at the same time. Your otherworldly vocals, the emotion and overall atmosphere, the lighting (thanks Eli!), the camerawork (and Layne!), the beautiful piano... it all complements the rest so well and turns into something that's just... unreal. You manage to keep raising the bar in everything you do. It's not even a song I much cared to listen to before, yet this version has me captivated. At risk of sounding melodramatic, but on behalf of pretty much everyone: thanks for putting in all the work (you too, Kathy!) to get this one done, Geoff. It was so worth the wait.

Your voice is something special, has a QUALITY that is unique, and the same quality is in your arrangements. And the video... I've been thinking about how well you tell this story. When I listen to other versions of this song, the melody is so repetitive and the lyrics are so abstract and poetic, I tend to lose track of what is actually going on in the song. But you start out so simple, with so much focus on the one voice, and then gradually add visual and musical elements as the song progresses, while still never getting in the way of the simplicity. It just . . . walks me through the narrative and I can follow it better than I ever have before.
@GeoffCastellucci Жыл бұрын
Repetitive for sure... this song has 5 verses that are all exactly the same. Trying to do something different for every verse to keep it interesting was a real challenge. Glad all the effort paid off!

@@GeoffCastellucci It did. It totally did. I have a lyrics-first brain, and even so, in listening to others' versions of this song (even Simon and Garfunkel's original), I often forget that this song is someone describing a bad dream in detail, unless I stop to think about it. This arrangement (and video) makes sure I remember. [That wind noise!]

I agree, this version of the song actually brings the lyrics to the focus and I paid much more attention to the message of the song. While David Draiman's rendition is wonderful, the attention on that goes more to the dynamics and voice rather than the message.

to think this a bit further, many have mentioned this version being sad etc. Original, disturbed’s and this has also been referred as a trilogy. And why not, perhaps the original is the ”denial”, d’s version bring the ”anger” and this finally being the ”acceptance”
