Disney Plus's new Book of Boba Fett wrapped up its first season this week, with very mixed results. In this video I go into why this Star Wars show doesn't work for me. From the boring characters, to the show being completely taken over by the cast of The Mandalorian. At least it was nice to see Grogu.

Especially if they gave Cobb Vanth a bigger part, so Boba was kind of the Lawful Evil. "I'm taking over and will maintain order against these more reckless crime families" while Vanth was the Lawful Good, "I'm Tomothy Oliphant and I will take any role in which I get to be a cowboy and also I'm protecting this town" Sheriff and they sort of awkwardly maneuvered around each other while fighting a bigger threat, like maybe the Hutt twins who are a little bit unhinged/impulsive/ just feel like everyone else is beneath them so they can do whatever they want.

The show would have benefitted so much by having Cad Bane be the main antagonist since episode 1. Find a way to put him into the story since the start, reminding Boba Fett of his past sins and his alliance with the Empire and Separatists. The mod bikers stood out a lot in Tatooine. The people there are desert dwellers; living in hot sun and sand. Their equipment are always under the rigors of wear and tear; bleached white by the hot sun and abraded by the sand. Their planet is full of scavengers, repurposing old machinery and junk. Then suddenly we have shiny multicolored bikes that look new; totally not fitting with the aesthetic. These mods themselves don't have any backstory and no detail is given as to how their group was formed or how they are able to get the necessary equipment to go about their "modifications" in a harsh desert planet with limited supplies. It's like they were placed there to look cool, but no thought was given as how such a ragtag group could even live on Tatooine.

A big thing as well was that they were introduced in a conflict involving the prices of water being too high. That's the kind of conflict where you expect the people complaining about the price of a basic resource needed for life to be struggling financially. But they just looked super well off due to their bikes and body mods. It made it seem like they could probably afford the water prices with ease, but didn't want to.

For me, watching the series finale made me realise that literally nothing happened in the show before Mando came along and I feel like the Mando eps were just the team’s way of skipping a whole bunch of possible content for the show to properly build up the hype for the finale. It simply goes ‘Boba in a bacta tank and then flash back’ and that’s pretty much the first 4 eps and then proposal for neutrality and the realisation of war. The finale felt like the only time the show actually had some real action.

Yes, this is an issue I have with the show as well. Almost nothing that happens is information that we could not have already inferred from Boba's appearances in Mando S2. In that show, we see that he's survived the Sarlaac, that he's wearing Tusken robes, that he's partnered with Fennec, he gets his armor back, he's more noble than we've assumed him to be, and he takes over Jabba's throne on Tattooine. By the end of this season, he's basically in the same place. Not to say there weren't some cool scenes in the flashbacks and stuff, but very little of it moved either the plot or the character forward.

Finally introducing a fan-favorite character into live action and then killing him off in the next episode felt like a bit of a disservice. I'm half convinced that the biggest failing of this show (why so much of it doesn't seem to have any reason) is that it's not supposed to exist on it's own. Disney is doing with Star Wars what Marvel did ... constructing a more interconnected universe, and that means interconnecting the shows. They won't stand on their own anymore. For better or worse, I think we're not at the end of Fett's story yet, it'll continue on in the other shows. It just means you can't watch one thing and get your story anymore, and I'm not sure it's the right thing for Star Wars. (And even the Marvel stuff isn't THIS deeply interconnected.)

Boba Fett faces 2 problems: 1. In order to do the crime lord thing right, it requires a darkness and violence that makes it too mature for young audiences. 2. A lot of want we always wanted from a Boba Fett story we already got from the Mandalorian.
@KingCam20
@KingCam20 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Having a show about Boba being the same bounty hunter that he was before would feel pretty redundant since we already have that in the Mandalorian. So it feels like the writers were forced into a situation where they had to make the show about something different. And I'm not against the idea of the having the character go through a big change, in fact I'd be all for a show about Boba trying to escape the life of crime after realizing that the current trajectory of his life is an early grave. But to do that they actually have to commit to having him change slowly overtime and learning things along the way. As opposed to the sudden and lackluster change of heart seen in the actual show, where it's hard to understand what's motivating Boba's current actions.

After episode 6 with Luke giving Grogu the choice to be a Jedi or go back to Mando and it cuts to black that should of been it, we don't see Grogu again until Mando season 3. The scenes of Grogu being brought to Tatooine by R2 and meeting the mechanic lady again, Mando and Gorgu reuniting, and the two flying off in Mandos new ship should of all been put on the backburner and saved for the first episode of Mando season 3. If you were to cut out all the scenes of Grogu and the mechanic lady from the last episode that would easily free up maybe 10 maybe 12 minutes or more of screen time. Sad thing is that they know how to portray Boba. His character in the Mandalorian S2 was pretty much what everyone expected. A brutal, cunning man who knows what he wants but also a fair man with his own code of honor. Now he's some sort of squeaky clean crime lord who doesn't really commit any crime. I don't know why they're so insistent on marketing this as somehow family-friendly. It's about a character who kills people for money renowned for his brutality and efficiency (or at least that's what people expected). It was so mediocre it fucking made me want to have a crack at concepting something better. Why not have a story where Boba, after escaping the Sarlacc and being confronted with his own mortality, experiments with trying to settle and live a relatively normal life with a family only to realize he cannot function like that. It's beyond his nature. But at the same time, he still craves that connection of family, wanting someone to remember him fondly once he dies, not just as a skilled fighter and brutal killer. Maybe he connects with his late father, were these the same feelings his father had when he wanted a son? He was so obsessed throughout his life with revenge and on trying to live up to his father's name he never really took time to think about it. He thought he wanted to be just like his dad and leave a legacy of being the Galaxy's greatest bounty hunter, just like his father, only to realize that wasn't even what his father wanted in the end. So what does he do? He dons his armor once more. This time, he founds a shady PMC group. Travelling around, as well as old associates, he recruits the outcast and lost warriors. Those left for dead like Fennec, talented but troubled young criminals with no direction or purpose in life, wanted ex-Imperials wanting to run away from their past, jobless soldiers who can't reintegrate and still crave the rush of combat etc. They go around taking jobs, capitalizing on the lawlessness and power vacuum left behind by the empire and weak new republic.

It's really hard to see and appreciate character development if we don't know who Boba was before the Sarlac Pit. They just kept telling us about how much he has changed but all never saw it. We really needed to see Boba's struggles and doubts with being a bounty hunter. Maybe show him getting repetitively betrayed by his employers or just his horrible lonelness knowing he can never trust anyone due to his work. It would of made his slow acceptance into the Sand People's tribe that much more impactful. Not to mention that his relationship with Cad Bane should of been set up way earlier. Cad was basically his horrible bounty hunter mentor after the death of his father and in the show they treat it like Boba just killed an old co-worker.

The problem I think is that Boba's whole appear is that he's a mysterious dude who has cool armor. The second you start giving him back story he loses some of the mystery that gives him appeal. The reason myths like the Lockness Monster have enduring is because they're mysterious. But if everyone knew the the Lochness Monster was just some unique species of giant reptile living in a lake, then it would be a lot less interesting.

Ultimately I feel like Boba should’ve been trying to keep the Hutt position in order to protect the sand people, and act as their collector of fees for allowing the spice to run. When he was attempting to be overthrown he should’ve called together multiple tribes of sand people to help the fight. Everything else could remain basically the same. That ties the flashbacks together, gives him a larger group of warriors to fight for him, and ultimately provides him with a real motive- helping the people who saved him, for taking the Hutt palace.

Having a 50s style diner makes sense on Coruscant, being a major city planet, it wouldn't be out of place to find themed restaurants just like you do in any major city (although something from our Earth is a bit out of place). However, Tatooine is known for being poor, criminal, and desolate. For some randos to suddenly have cyberpunk clothing and matching 50s themed mopeds was jarring. One person, sure, give a 50s style ride to a crime boss, but for several "poor people" to be suddenly coordinating their mopeds and clothing was entirely out of place for Tatooine.

I thought Boba Fett's characterization in season two of The Mandalorian was the exact thing to build off of. He was tough and still mysterious like his OT self with a combined prequel element of having him played by Temuera Morrison, but it still felt like he was a changed man ever since having escaped the sarlacc pit. That said, his character in that show still, in my opinion, felt consistent to the character we all know and love, which leads to my problem with his character in The Book of Boba Fett. It honestly doesn't feel like the same character that was reintroduced to us in The Mandalorian, a character which I had actual interest in seeing more of, and because he doesn't feel the same, I just found the Book of Boba Fett itself kind of boring. I really hope that if it gets season two, they can do much better with his character and making the show interesting

Eh I disagree. He was only in mando as a helping hand, that’s why he didn’t have much dialogue and just killed people. Honestly the only time we saw boba consistent with his OT portrayal was when he threatens to kill grogu the issue began when he suddenly decided to be peaceful after mando makes a threat. It’s not even like he backs down or anything in a understandable way, go back and watch the scene, all of a sudden he’s like “there’s no need for bloodshed” directly after threatening to kill a child lmao. After that scene boba completely changes to the boba we see in this show. In mando it felt like he was introduced as a villain only for the show runners to decide he was a good guy mid way through making the episode. Like he’s introduced with an ominous musical queue, has an angry expression, and shoots at mando when they first meet. But randomly he changes, if you want to track where the problem began it was in mando s2 when his characterization was all over the place.

The one crossover thing they did that was amazing to me was Cad Bane- not just because its Cad fucking Bane but he was the perfect antithesis to the vague story they built for Boba Fett in this season. He was a relic of his old life as a bounty hunter- being one of his major 'guardians' and teachers in his teens, as well as a rival to him and his father Jango before him. Defeating Cad Bane was symbolic of everything the show /wanted/ out of Boba's character development. Everything they failed to actually SHOW in the fucking show because they wasted the first 5 episodes. Cad Bane was a stroke of genius that wasn't built up enough to really 'save' the show, but he sure managed to keep the character arc of Boba at least somewhat alive.

This show feels like development hell. The final product was... chaotic. We have two episodes for no good reason told as flashbacks. Two episodes worth of modern story that were never allowed to get going. I would have liked a story between Fett and Bane take up an episode that would have shown "old boba" to let us see who he was before the pit. That would leave us with 2 episodes. Maybe 1 to handle the escalating tensions towards the finale and 1 to handle the book of Boba Fett Mandelorian crossover. In the finale, Boba Fett's ties to the sand people should have properly come in.

Disney views this as an MCU for Star Wars, so they want to story to interconnect and make the entire series mandatory viewing in order to understand each individual show. It's also worth noting that this show never stood fully on its own, because there's never an explanation given for how Boba gets his armor. You need to have already watched Mando to understand that. I’m not trying to justify Disney’s decision, just explain it.
@TheDawnofVanlife
@TheDawnofVanlife 2 жыл бұрын
The thing is they are copying the MCU badly. I know a lot of people who have maybe seen a few MCU things here and there and are only maybe like vaguely even aware it is a connected universe. I am even shocked to find some of them love some things hard core MCU fans hate because they aren't as deeply invested in the connected universe bits. You can watch a lot of the MCU without watching all of the MCU. With the BoBF flashbacks we at least got the implication they were going to get his armor in the flashbacks and we know that they succeeded because he has his armor. If you are really invested in "how" there's a way to get that story, but honestly you don't need it. Audiences are actually fairly good at filling in enough blanks to make the connections needed to follow the story they are watching in the present time flow. The more important bit of that flashback was establishing the beginning of Fennec and Boba as a duo. It was really the Mando stuff that was too overloaded into Boba's series. I watched a lot of Deep Space Nine as a kid and very little of any other Star Trek show. In fact, I thought I had seen some of Voyager but having re-watched/watched it pretty sure I never saw one episode before. While a scene here and there in DS9 (especially the pilot) had different weight when I decided to embark on watching all of Star Trek, nothing was so crazy that I did know enough within an episode and just that show's material to connect A to B and sit in the story I was in. So the Armor thing really wasn't a 'you need all the details' situation. But Mando's whole story of getting Grogu back. That's like an entire arc of a major plot point from the Mandalorian dumped in an entirely different show as necessary viewing. This is more like the CW Arrowverse which can be very messy to watch when you get into crossover episode territory and you are not watching all the shows. In a binge of a series of episodes, sometimes one will seem to end and jump to some future where you missed a whole chapter of information. Then you can either ignore the time jump or research the missing crossover episodes from the other series and try to find them and watch just them to get the information. Eitherway, it makes viewing the thing as itself and not as an interconnected piece of something larger messy. That is more what shoving so much of Mando's story into BoBF feels like. Unlike say Falcon and the Winter Solider. That show built on where we left off with the passing of the Cap Shield, built on it, but left the story in a place that when the new movie comes out the TV series will add weight to him being Captain America now. But since the passing of the shield actually happened in the movie, when the next movie comes it also feels as natural to a viewer that hasn't seen the TV series that the passing of the shield was successful and even if they don't have all the details of what that entailed, the character has now reached a point of being comfortable in the role of Captain America. It is well set up to be it's own thing with or without needing to see the TV series. So I would say Star Wars is doing a bad Arrowverse style of storytelling more then an MCU one. (tho MCU is likely what they'd like to build)

It's weird that Disney tried to make an iconic anti-hero into a hero but it's even weirder to try to make that hero's occupation a crime lord that is anti-crime. There's a reason why you don't find nice people running mafias and cartels. Being a bounty hunter is a far more neutral occupation with a lot more grey space to experiment with character development. The season would have been more interesting/true to his origins if they focused on Boba's relationship with the Empire, Jango, Bossk, Dengar, or Mandalorians from S2 of Djarin's show instead of staying on Tatooine the whole time. Edit: Also, the problem with the scooters is how out of place they are in the specific setting. If those vehicles were on Coruscant or another heavily developed planet or city and were owned by different people they wouldn't be out of place, but the cyber-punk biker gang that own them are suppose to be short of money, yet are driving flashy immaculate effete vehicles that neither fit Mos Espa, or the people who own them. It would be equally off-putting to see Dark Vader or Maul flying around in pastel colored star-fighters bespeckled in rhinestones.

I think the main issue with Boba Fett is that The Mandalorian effectively became everything that Boba Fett originally was - the badass faceless bounty hunter anti hero. The Mandalorian created the perfect encapsulation of what Star Wars fans saw always Fett as, and built on that in an interesting and unique way through the lore of Mandalor. As such, the revival of Fett was always doomed as the iconic mysterious nature of the character in most fans heads had already been fully realised and explored. The most Boba Fett thing about TBOBB was the episodes with Mando because that is what we in our hearts saw Fett as. The fact is, that the concept of a show about Fett surviving was completely decimated as soon as the Mandalorian was made.

No one saw Boba in the OT and thought "That guy looks like he could beat up or out-bludgeon anybody", he was a high-tech and stealthy hunter and people wanted to see him do more tracking, assasinating, and using cool gadgets to get the job done. With the introduction of Din Djarin, Boba Fett was rendered redundant. They are both cut from the same cloth. In this situation, when you have two similar characters, they should be written as foils to each other. That was my expectation for the Book of Boba Fett. When I saw the end credit scene to the Mandalorian season 2 finale, I thought it was a stroke of brilliance having Boba Fett become a crime lord, a more organic direction for his character than his Legend's counterpart, in my opinion. I never thought Fett made a good Mand'alor, neither did his father for that matter. If Din Djarin is shaping up to be sort of a "knight king," Boba Fett, the kingpin, makes for an interesting contrast. It's too bad the series squanders this opportunity. The route I would've taken is this. While Din is beholden to tradition and honor, Fett is only motivated by pragmatism and strength. While Fett understands respect, he thinks the Mandalorian ways hold them back, shackle them from achieving total victory. Even the Mandalorian season 2 demonstrates that Fett and Din are not the same person from their fighting styles. Fett is described as a barbarian to Din's gunslinger. The series should lean into this savagery that makes Fett different from other Mandalorians. He can still rule with respect rather than fear, but he is motivated by self-interest. We can keep Din and him working together to fight the Pykes, but throughout the battle have Din realize that Fett and him are not as alike as he once thought. Fett routes the Pykes and a few of them surrender. Din leans towards sparing them. I would think it might be seen as dishonorable to kill an enemy that already surrendered. However, Fett executes all the prisoners, reasoning he doesn't have the manpower to keep them locked up in Jabba's palace and that they are likely to rejoin the Pykes Syndicate if freed. His debt repaid, Din leaves Tatooine. The next time they meet. Fett's faction has grown to be the most powerful crime syndicate in the galaxy. Boba Fett, once again, is working with the Empire. Din, assuming his duty and destiny as Mand'lor, builds a Mandalorian army and joins the Jedi and New Republic's fight against Thrawn's Imperial Remnant. Boba Fett and Din Djarin find themselves on opposing sides. This highlights how they are foils to each other, two sides of the same coin.

Everything just felt so rushed and crammed in to such a short series that nothing worked well. If there's a season 2 of Fett I really dont see where they can go now. They've pretty much ruined his character arc. After completing this hidden agenda of dismantling the criminal empire that had been present there for so long, it would end with the tribes bidding farewell as the Slave I (or whatever it's called now) flies off into the twin sunset with Fett and Shand returning to the world of bounty hunting at the end of the show.

There is so much truth in this video. It expresses all my frustrations with this show as a Boba Fett fan. If they wanted to evolve the character from his bounty hunter life, we should have gotten in depth flashbacks show his life as a bounty hunter and why that life was not cutting out for him (more than just the near death experience of being eaten by a sarlacc). Boba's story should always stay connected to Jango's. Jango's relationship with his son is what makes boba interesting to me. I really wanted to see Jango train Boba and teach him lessons of respect that Boba wants to translate into his new crime syndicate. We needed more show, less tell.

Star Wars fans need to realize that Star Wars in an anthology. All of the episodes 1-9, all the animated shows and now Disney Plus shows too are parts of that collection of stories. The Book of Boba Fett did a good job calling itself a book and its stories chapters, AND LIKE A BOOK the protagonist isn't always part of every chapter. Still the events of those chapters are important to the overall story. It's like some of these people have forgotten how books work The folks that brought us the Clone Wars, Rebels, the Bad Batch, the Mandalorian are working on this. They're going to make this all work and it's going to make sense. Just take a breath and let them tell you their story, stay in the moment, enjoy what we've gotten.

@@mazirsoufik258 I understand that a book doesn't always focus on its main protagonist, but in an already incredibly short show of only seven episodes, Boba is not in two of them. With the writers trying to tell two stories about Boba (present time and the flashbacks) it just felt like very little time was given to the main character. It also doesn't help that Mando's part of the story was a lot more exciting, furthering the feeling that this is Mando's show with Boba getting some of his own episodes.

I was literally writing out a rant article to sort my own thoughts out about this series, but you’ve pretty much nailed it (a sign I should leave the critique videos to professionals). Even if you dismissed the actual characterization of Boba Fett-which, as you pointed out, was really off tone here given the “crime boss that doesn’t love crime” angle-the series’ biggest problem was its inability to focus on *one* story. It focused so much on his background that it sacrificed establishing a strong main plot in the first two episodes (where you *really* need that). A normal show would have relegated this backstory to an episode or two in the latter part of a series of 10 or more episodes when we needed a break from the building suspense and action. Instead the backstory is given almost equal footing to the main plot in the first four episodes of the series. And then in the build to the climax, the show becomes the Mandalorian, where we don’t even see the title character of the show we’re actually in. The fact that Disney decided to do this shows that at least one key decision-maker there still does not really understand how to run a franchise. Seven episodes was not nearly enough to properly show all of this, and they still would have had the issue of figuring out what story to tell. The plain truth of the matter is that the Book of Boba Fett should have been Mandalorian Season 3 (or at least the first part of a season three). Mando is still the main character and does much of what his episodes in BoBF show. First episode is him getting kicked out of the Watch and finding his way to Tatooine, where we introduce Boba trying to establish himself in Tatooine. Someone else commented-and I agree-that Cad Bane should be the main antagonist of the season. Really throw us some intrigue about Boba Fett’s character; maybe have Cad Bane commit atrocities in Boba Fett’s name as a way to introduce the conflict of a power struggle between Boba and Cad. Also make Boba’s motivations murky; maybe he is telling Bane to do these things. Slowly build through the season as Mando gets caught in the middle while trying to make his way back to visit Grogu. It’s not hard to think of a more compelling way they could have done a Boba Fett arc. In essence, just make what they know will sell-another season of Mando-and have Fett play a major role in it. EASY.

What dumbfounds me is the inconsistency of Boba's character when compared to his outings in the Mandalorian: he remoreslessly kills dozens of stormtroopers, gets into flame-thrower fight in a cantina, because someone called him a 'clone' and shoots Bib Fortuna in cold blood without saying a single word. And all of those things are supposed to happened after the Tusken story arc. In the Book of Boba Fett, he constantly lets people off the hook who tried to kill him, takes in some alley cats, refuses drug money and instead wants to run a protection racket, solely based on respect. At the same time, despite 'going straight', he has no issue declaring himself Daimyo (i.e. unelected feudal ruler) over Mos Espa. And to add insult to injury, after getting everything he wanted in the end, he admits, he's "not suited for this". * facepalm * This whole thing would have been more believable as a 'Marshal Cobb Vanth vs. the Tatooine spice cartel' story arc.

I'm baffled by the reception of this series. I've seen a lot of otherwise fairly well-reasoned people say that it's "disappointingly mediocre" and would have benefited from being called something else. This had led to the question of whether or not people are just attempting to cope with how truly bad this show is. Shortlist of issues... - Titular character basically isn't in two episodes - Titular character doesn't follow any previous characterization - Concepts and characters, external to the show itself, are paraded out with little to no context (Cad Bane, the Pikes, Spice) - Actions taken by the characters are often forgotten about or glossed over (i.e. Boba killing all those bikers, literally everything with the Tuskens in this show) - Characters consistently make inexplicably stupid decisions (taking a rancor into a city to fight giant robots instead of the Slave-1, that Wookie Assassin waking up Boba instead of just killing him) - Action scenes are devoid of tension and often outright farcical: totally incompetent foes, plot armour thicker than the great wall is long. - FLASHBACK, FLASHBACK, FLASHBACK. - Luke is dragged through the mud... again. - Clap because you know a thing. If this is the bar writing has to meet to be considered mediocre, especially for established properties, then the craft of writing is well and truly screwed.

these writers today wouldn't have the first clue were it not for member berries guiding them and di$ney mandates to keep it very kiddie friendly. filoni and favreau don't impress me as being great writers; they have moments, but cohesion and strong characterization isn't top priority. it's more of what di$ney is doing lately, too, taking villains -- *which boba fett is!* -- and giving them a sympathetic backstory and all the evil things they've done, well, we're just supposed to not think about that. now, di$ney wants and expects their characters to a certain thing even when they're the bad guys, so that does limit what characterization they can do, but despite that i question their prolonged ability. rodriguez isn't going to score an 'alita' sequel based on this stuff! he's the guy they wanted to make this cheap and use up elements of the movie which never got made. ...and about the supposed BF movie, how much of that, if any, are we seeing here as yet another cost-cutting measure? this whole IP is a mess, even the 'good stuff' is head-scratching. kennedy must have some serious dirt on a lot of people not to be run out of town for being a glorified secretary who used to bone spielberg. oops, did i just say that?

The sequels failed at that, so far nothing new has really been delivered by the Mandalorian, most of those concepts were already in the EU. Yeah Mando is new but everything he has encountered isn't, at least i cant really tell rn. Dark troopers were a thing before, Moff Gideon was a good villian and I guess the struggle for the dark saber might be new so there is that but most concepts are well established. This is from Reddit and It describes my problem with the show: I've seen many say that Boba Fett "did nothing" in the Original Trilogy, and therefore he is a "blank slate." The problem with this is that despite a character having little screen time, you can make inferences about that character based upon the actions they take, and their role within the setting and story. Previously, Boba Fett was a Bounty Hunter who killed and kidnapped people for money -- his employers being either the fascist government at the time or various criminal organizations. He did this for many years, and was very successful. So successful, in fact, that he came under the employ of the Sith Lord Darth Vader -- the second most evil being in the entire galaxy. In order to succeed in such a manner in that business, you must be ruthless, goal-oriented, extremely skilled, and some would say, amoral. The events as presented in The Book of Boba Fett do little to justify the change in Boba Fett that we currently see. While being embarrassingly kicked into a Sarlacc is indeed a humbling and frightening experience, it does not change a man with a heart of coal to a heart of gold. If you believe that living with the Tuskens changed him, i'd like to know how. It's never discussed or shown. He helps them stop a train and then takes a drug trip -- apparently this is enough to make him 180. The Boba Fett currently presented in The Book of Boba Fett could not have come under the employ of Darth Vader. He is naive, docile, good-natured and not to mention, unskilled. This Boba Fett could not have captured Han Solo.

At most days) to him getting helped by the tuskens, he spent months, if not YEARS with these people, being humbled and learning their ways. YOU don't understand anything being presented Infront of you. That's not the show's fault. He didn't just stop a train and take a drug trip, he had NOTHING and was trained by them. Boba’s past, trauma and training and everything could make for an interesting story. And also Boba ruling with an iron fist and making his enemies tremble with fear and loyalty could also be awesome if done correctly. But they don’t do that. They focus on shit that doesn’t matter and don’t give the episodes the same execution as the ones for the Mandalorian. Even at its weakest episode, the Mandalorian still is trying. Here we have no episodes with Boba apart from episode 2 and maybe to a lesser extent 4 that are actually trying. Robert Rodriguez killed this show with the pilot and with the finale and Jon’s writing makes absolutely no sense across the board.

Thing is, I was kind of on board with this new Boba Fett. Granted, with the context of the prequels given in this video, I'll concede the transformation into a softer spoken, more respectable guy was odd when lacking a compelling series if events to lead him there, but I was ready to see him try to clean up Tatooine. But then, even that didn't really go anywhere. There could have been several seasons of Boba and his new palace inhabitants cleaning up the streets, battling the pykes while making sure the planet isn't blown to dust in the process, maintaining alliances, being weary of traitors, etc., but no, a lot of plots were started but not finished in a satisfactory way, and by the end Boba and Fennec just leave in a baffling decision that I still don't understand. And yeah, there's also the issue of hijacking Boba's show for another quarter season of Mando. I'll also give the action was a bit lacking, but it really feels like it shouldn't have been. Ep. 2 with the train takedown was awesome. We needed more battles and action scenes to reach that kind of hype.

That said, yeah the fact that episodes 5 & 6 were basically Mandalorian season 2.5 sucked. I mean, I like what they did in the episodes, but they hijacked Boba’s own show. I would have really loved more of the scheming who-do-you-trust tension we got in the first few episodes, and had the Mandalorian episodes been replaced by that I think the show would have been much better received.

It seemed like this was ACTUALLY season 2.5 of Mandolorian, with a sizable side story involving Boba Fett. Seems kinda silly considering Boba Fett is in the title and thus implied as the main character, but all the cool implications for future story revolved around Mando. Will he become a mandolorian jedi? Will he find some way to redeem himself with the order? Whats going to happen to Grogu and why does he not appear in the sequels (in-universe reason I mean)? Everything in Boba Fett's story was neatly tied up, so its seems they don't plan on returning to him except as a cameo character in future Star Wars content

I figured that all the future Disney+ Star Wars content were sidestepping the sequels (7-9). They were going to handle the expanded universe content with Lucas’ silent blessing… no quotes to support it but with the addition of young Luke, they are just leaving the future prequels in the literal future and then return to give eps 7-9 another “reboot” in 10-15 years. Just a theory….

They’re rumors that the production was very messy, plus rewrites and reshoots close to the release date. Not to mention Kathleen Kennedy is very good at screwing Star Wars up with her garbage ideas, but I won’t solely blame her this time for this mess of a show. Not to mention the worst thing for me is that they essentially ruined Din’s character development in his grief of giving Grogu away, and shorty reunited before the start of season 3 of The Mandalorian.

I really feel they were trying to make S1 of this show about Boba Fett, reformed villian. I think Disney wanted to shy away from collaborator to a Faux-Fascist Empire and big up the he's a good guy now. Look he helped the Natives in their fight against a drug cartek. Also I am not sure how many seasons Book of Boba Fett was greenlit for, but, it seems to be Banking on getting a season 2 where maybe they can build on this character and maybe have some characters from Bob's past come back for Revenge. I completely agree that Boba and Mando need a divorce, sure if Mando is in the area and wants to team up, great. but Let Boba have his show and let Mando have his. Seemed like they wanted to Make the Mandalorian Season 3 about half way through and just put Boba back in the toy box. It's a very weird show which seemed to want to want to make their own version of Boba but had no way to take Boba of the Movies and make him into the Boba they wanted. So just made it almost seem like Boba was dropped on his head one day and decided to be good.

Weird thing is I can see Boba being the "good guy" they wanted, the near death experience and the Tusken drug trip he took were enough to justify the change for me. But my problem with his characterisation isn't because he's good now, but because he's kind of stupid and overly passive. He sits on his throne or in his bacta tank, claiming to be a crime lord who doesn't even do any crime and has to be told *everything* by Fennec. He only reacts to things and is never proactive, and Fennec has to tell him the most basic of things like "credits can buy you muscle". Boba was a bounty hunter! He knows that!

Even if you want to make him a reformed villain, that’s not how he comes across at all in season 2 of the Mandalorian. He was still a capable fighter despite his age. He wasn’t stupid. He had menace and was still intimidating especially when he got the armor back on. That scene at the end where he wordlessly comes in and takes Jabba’s throne and kills his way to take it is the proof they understood Boba. But here he feels like a completely different person and it makes me angry because they got him right before and did this to him.

TBoBF is just plain boring and honestly I'm kind of upset that the mando episodes exists in the show, because I honestly would've prefered them to be in The Mandalorian season 3. I think that the 5th episode was actually taken from Mando season 3 when they realized the book of Boba Fett was a bust. It literally cuts from civilians getting murdered by a giant explosion to baby yoda and Luke. Seriously make up your mind.

I think that it was an enjoyable, but flawed show. Boba Fett as a character is enjoyable to watch imo. The main issue with his character is that we don't get a concise reason as to why he changes. We should have seen him struggling with being a bounty hunter, and contemplating his decisions and life choices. His near death experience, combined with his bond with the tribe would've been enough for him to finally change. While this is implied we never actually see his bounty hunting days or why he's sick of it, we're just told he is. We also needed to see him become less ruthless rather than him already being that way when the show begins. He should've struggled with changing and that could have been the main internal conflict of the show, reinventing himself and letting go of being a cold merciless killer. I believe the show wanted to do that but they didn't because.... Who knows? It's jarring how they decided to focus on Mando for no reason. All the mando content could have and should have been relegated to season 3 instead of this show. Mando could've made a cameo as added muscle to Boba's new criminal empire, but that should've been it. As for the plot, the main issue I had was that Boba doesn't actually become a crimelord and is more of a lawman with slightly questionable morals. We should have seen him setting up his business and making money before fighting off approaching gangs. Cad Bane should have also been introduced far earlier as the main antagonist and would've made a good foil to Boba. He would be the symbol of his past and defeating him would've brought boba's arc full circle. Every issue I have with the show is not to do with the ideas the show presents but rather its method for going about showing us those ideas. The execution is off. Boba changes, but we only witness him after the change and are not shown why he changes (we're just told and given implications). Boba becomes a crimelord but we're not shown what it means to be a crimelord. Boba faces Bane and overcomes him but we're not given a reason to care that much. Overall these issues could've been resolved had the show been structured better and had been more focused on Boba instead of mando and Luke. (Seriously Luke's inclusion was completely out of place). I enjoyed it but I am disappointed at the wasted potential. The ideas are good, but they just didn't execute them well and instead wasted time meandering with vespas and meaningless jedi training.
