Whereas seasons 6 and 7 of the Office are while by no means 2 of the best still around the same quality as seasons 2-5 (I think they're better than 1 personally)

Andy is one of the weirdest characters in Tv, he starts off as a side-character in Jim's plotline of S3, then goes to Scranton to become a villain, returns as a minor-character, becomes a main-character, becomes the new Michael, and then fucks off on a boat for like a season then returns and shits on a car.

Michael Scott Paper Company was gold, stress relief was amazing, I just wish they did more with Pam and art school and not just make her fail it and come back. I think they should’ve ended it after michael scott paper company gets sold because the other episodes are a bit filler and it would’ve made sense to start a new season with Michael as a boss again. Does all of it make it better than 4? No. it doesn’t have an episode as good as Dinner Party and 4 being so short actually made me love it the most. I find season 1 hard to compare to the other seasons because it feels more like a real office documentary, which is what the show was purported to be about. Season 2 on is more sitcom like and comfy, which is why the show gets re-watched so many times, but the cost of that is the increasing cartoonishness and loss of tension from feeling less and less like a real office. So I really like season 1 and the following season or so.

I think I used to also be in the same boat as you. I'd recommend the show to people and advise them to hold on through season 1 to get to the vastly superior seasons 2 and on... But with hindsight, aside from the pilot episode, season 1 is very strong. It feels a little older and a little different from season 2 and on (when they really hit on the heart of the show, balancing Michael's behaviour out a bit more evenly between douche boss and honestly loveable, trying guy). But in terms of developing its identity as separate from the original series and laying the foundation of where the characters would go, season 1 is much better on a recent re-watch. All opinions, of course - if you've rewatched recently and still don't expect season 1 to be so high, power to you.

I like to look at the office’s quality like a plane journey. Season 1 is that awkward getting onto the plane with people in the aisles trying to put their luggage away, nothing going quite right but getting to know the environment you are about to spend however long inside. Seasons 2 & 3 are the taking off rising incredible high so quickly and having a lot of fun on the way. Then 4 - 6 are maintaining that high level as you relax into this world with a little turbulence along the way. Season 7 is the beginning of the slow decline. Season 8 is the final steeper decline in for landing, making you a little nauseous. Finishing off with Season 9 as the anxious landing, pulling off overall a good ending to an incredible journey that you would happily get on all over again with no regrets.

This has always been my opinion: if you view the show post-Michael Scott as its own series, it’s not all that bad. If you view them as the same, you can clearly see that they were running out of ideas and trying to do whatever they could to keep viewers entertained. The tone and content of the last two seasons would have worked better as a spin-off. They aren’t terrible and I’ll admit, a lot of episodes I still find thoroughly entertaining. But I think we can all agree they feel drastically different than the show when it still had Michael. And no one can deny: they took WAY too many swings and misses. Everything with Cathy, the love-hate relationship with Robert California as a character, Jim and Pam seeming like they’re gonna get a divorce, Andy referring back into a complete dick out of nowhere…I could name many more.

To me the ranking goes like this: S3 S2 S5 S4 S1 S8 S7 S9 S6 Seasons 2 and 3 are easily the best seasons. Storylines, arcs, characters… it all flows so well. Season 2 is like as if the show found its own identity, and season 3 cemented it. Season 4 was like watching a teenager graduating from highschool. It had confidence, it was propelling itself for the future. Season 5 is the office at its peak in terms of confidence, taking risks, creating arcs (the Michael Scott paper company being the best arc in the series). Season 1 is like going to grandmas house and finding old pictures of yourself doing weird stuff. It’s cringe, but it’s nostalgic. You remember where you came from. Season 8 IMO is a breath of fresh air because of Robert California. After Michael’s departure, I was curious to see how the show would handle the loss of a lead character, and although not perfect, season 8 brought one of the funniest characters of the show. Season 7 is a good season but only memorable because of Michaels departure, like a farewell season. Season 9 feels like an experimental season after season 8, and season 6 is the start of the downfall of the show in terms of creativity for me. Pretty forgettable but with nice moments here and there. Felt like the show engaged autopilot and stuck its foot down the gas

I love "The Alliance" and "Dwight's Speech," especially the latter. Dwight's delivering the Mussolini speech and killing at the awards banquet is so deliciously ironic, given that Jim waa setting up one of his best pranks ever. And didn't Dwight set Jim up just as well in "The Alliance"?

I think season 1 is generally underrated because the first time you watch the show you don’t quite understand the characters, the dynamics and the humour of the series. After re-watching it, I could totally understand each line of dialogue and why it was there. The humour is much more sarcastic and subtle than just punch lines or Michael being a clown. It makes fun of how dumb the corporate life is, and how we should be able to laugh at ourselves.

I think I’d agree with almost everything you said in this video, although I’d probably have swapped 2 and 3. Personally, 2, 3, and 4 are kind of the show for me now. I usually just rewatch it starting with season 2 and then stop watching after 4 ends. Season 4 isn’t as good as the two that came directly before it, but it’s kinda nice to just enjoy Jim and Pam being together. I love the “will they? won’t they?” in 2 and 3 but it’s refreshing to just see them together in 4.

I feel like a lot of fans, myself included, who watched the show as it aired would name Season 2 as their favorite. Just the perfect mix of depressing and hilarious. Hell, you can see how “Hollywood” the show looks Season 3 onwards.

Season 2 is my favorite as well; it's just consistently solid. I agree that "Casino Night" was the show's best closer.

I enjoyed season 1. It had its growing pains especially with Michael Scott. But I still found the episodes very funny. Seasons 2 and 3 were the peak. Some of the funniest television I’ve ever seen. Season 4 was good but there was definitely a decline. Seems like they struggled a bit now that the Jim, Pam, Karen, Roy arc was over. I also missed unhinged Andy although I understand why they changed his character. Season 5 was uneven although I really liked the Michael Scott Paper Company arc. Cafe Disco is one of my favorites. Season 6 was a definite decline. I watched through the wedding episodes but started to lose interest after that. Pam changed quite drastically. Her assertiveness seemed to come out of nowhere. Season 7 was also not very good. They seemed to have run out out of ideas although i thought they handled Michael Scott’s exit pretty well. I watched very little of seasons 8 and 9 and what I did see was pretty bad. It’s just not The Office without Steve.

Season five is by far my favorite and here’s why I constantly rewatch the episode. New boss with Charles Minor to me. It is one of the funniest 22 minutes on TV. I love that whole story arc. But everything else on your list I absolutely agree with

I mostly agree with this ranking. I’d change a few things personally- from worst to best, Season 8, Season 9, Season 7, Season 1, Season 6, Season 5, Season 4, Season 2, Season 3. I think S7 should have set up Michael’s departure better. There’s a lot of wasted time that I think could have been used to better ease into Andy’s new role as manager and introduce new characters and dynamics. Even having Michael reflect on how things will change. Season 1 is low because it’s so short and lacks the arcs that I think characterize the best seasons. Season 5 wasted the Michael Scott Paper Company after a long set-up but was otherwise as solid as Season 4. And I think Season 3 really challenged itself to do new things instead of repeating what Season 2 had done. I really respect that initiative and it makes the season really dynamic.

The Michael Scott Paper Company and Fire Drill are for me the best episodes. I believe you should move S5 higher. Also anyone would consider the leaving of Michael the start of the declining of the show but for me it was with David Wallace. He was the best character of the show

My totally unrequested tier list: 1. Season 4 2. Season 3 3. Season 2 4. Season 5 5. Season 7 6. Season 1 7. Season 6 8. Season 8 9. Season 9 I feel like Season 8 has some more ideas than Season 9, which is basically a combination of unrelatable boring characters and Andy being a jerk. Also, the top 3 can really be tossed in any order. I put Season 4 on top since I feel it is the moment when the show's structure really got together in the iconic way The Office is now remembered and praised for. However, I can't deny that a fair share of Season 4's momentum comes from the way Seasons 2 and 3 were wrapped up: the arc about Jim and Pam is probably the best written thing on the series (and that says a lot on how good it is). It touches themes like friendship, jealousy, love, dreams and many others in such a delicate, restraint and down-to-earth way that it becomes immediately relatable and captivating for anyone.
