Im not big on power boats, but that ship is a friggin work of art. Absolutely beautiful. I look forward to getting Walter's book. Hes a very interesting dude. On one hand, a salty old shipwright and sailor, on the other a kind old guy who wants to share his knowledge and experience with the world, or at least with anyone wholl listen.

Walter, Captain Q and so many others have so many stories to tell. Where you may not find youth and vigor, you'll find something so much more valuable. They have experience, knowledge, and at the crossroads of that, wisdom. Thanks for this wonderful vision of the past, present and future! Also, every shop needs a mascot. Good job, Sally the cat!

As a lover of old wooden boats this 29 Is a dream boat for me .Especially now that i am retired .and to see him thinking about helping the disabled to be able to enjoy the water like the rest of us has struck a deep cord in me to try to do the same .and here on the west coast in Washington state there is no shortage of boats of all kinds .I thank you both for this .Now i have some deep thinking to do to see if i can make this happen here .

Walter is an amazing man!!! Besides Capt Q Walter is the only other person who i could listen to talking about his love of boats for hours and hours.. he's an amazing craftsman as well and most people who have had the success he's had would enjoy their retirement and not care about others yet he's the exact opposite. Willing to do whatever it takes to leave the world in a better place than before he lived.. God bless Walter and his family and the same goes for the Capt Q crew

Love your content. One bit of technical feedback. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned. There is a volume difference between the talking jazz interlude music (love the jazz). I have the volume turned up for the talking and then have to turn it down in-between. This wasn't the case in the old Captain Q series.

Really, really nice boat. Hopefully the new owner will appreciate it as much as Walter does. As far as the foundation goes there are lots of other sailing youtubers out there, maybe he could enlist thier support. Three that come to mind are Sailing with Zatara, Gone with the Wynns and Tula's Endless Summer. Maybe he could get a booth at the Annapolis boat show. Many times shows like that have free booths for non-profits. Good luck with everything and give the kitty a pat on the head for me.

As soon as he said the kid came aboard with the duffel bag I knew it was gonna be full of wooden plugs and shoring materials. We had a bag like that in all of our DC (damage control) lockers on the destroyer I was on in the Navy. Good to have in a pinch. Don't need to seal the hole, just plug it enough to survive.

Just love the content of these vids.. I grew up building ship in bottles as a hobby.. then joined up with Naval Cadets instead of scouts.. then soon as i was out of school my dad who worked in a ship yard got me work with him.. The SA Navy declined me 4 times.. today I still work on ships... I work doing repairs.. Coral Sea De Beers mining ship I removed both fore and aft winches. I love the classic ships.. I remember sitting at the ocean watching sailing yacht go by.. it's my dream to have one of my own some day..

I am astonished and disappointed. This so-called "cold molding" technique at best only extends the life of a wooden hull a few years and renders the boat virtually worthless. It is almost impossible to obtain a perfect mechanical bond between the cold molded hull and the wood. Yes it can be done but almost never works out. The additional weight causes problems and the outer hull is rigid versus the non-rigid wooden hull. The difference in rigidity causes the bond to break and then you have a huge mess.
@shannonboatcompany
@shannonboatcompany Жыл бұрын
I am also astonished and disappointed to see such a misinformed comment after decades of epoxy cold molded wood success. We must still have "experts" around that confuse slapping polester fberglass over a wood boat hull that was disastrously done in the 1960s and 1970s with epoxy cold molding. It is a long-proven and documented fact that the epoxy bond between two pieces of different wood is stronger and more longer lasting than the original wood. Sadly, the only problem with epoxy cold molding is the great expense, or we could save more wood boats from the chainsaw man.
