I call bs on that… if so many millions of natives died, where are all those millions of cadavers? I think is just another excuse to justify European expansion and the displacement of natives. If there were no people living on those lands, then it was open for the taking!

Mr. Verrazano is who the Verrazano Narrows Bridge between New Jersey and New York is named after. And it is a very NARROW bridge as well. Just as Long Island is a very LONG island.

A factor in the colonization of America that is almost never used is crop failus in Europe due to the mini ice age in the 1600s. A lot of people came to America because they had a choice of starvation in Europe or possibly being able to get enough food to America

Kindly but That’s not so, nez perce always rode apoloosa before Spanish got here. Indians ate all the horses de sotos left, Cortez had to take his back to queen Izabella , Cabot, Cartier , Pizarro all gave account of horses finer than Europe, hui shen seen horses here 400ad in Mexico.. here in az gov, they’re intruding wild horses again the the desert, that die, horses like cooler climates, open ranges , etc so that’s they’re evasive now

Native Americans were unable to stop colonization from anyone who wanted their land and resources because they lacked the technology of advanced weapons. The real question is what colonial power would you prefer that would be best for the Native Americans? Asian, European, African, or even Middle Eastern Empires would eventually colonize America. Based on history, I say Native Americans are lucky to be taken over by Europeans.

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 precluded the 13 colonies from expanding westward. Everything to the west was reserved for the indigenous peoples under the Proclamation. A very significant reason for the War of Independence in (1776) was to break away from the British king's restriction on expansion. Under British rule, the United States would have been native land and tragic events like Manifest Destiny, The Trail of Tears, and Removal wouldn't have happened.

Sadly, your assumption is wrong. The proclamation was a war time tool. Once Great Britain had recovered from the war with France the English would have resumed their expansion west.

Columbus did discover The bahamas and a new continent, It kickstarted the columbus exchange without it Europeans would never have Chocolate, potatotes, tomatoes,corn, etc and the Americas horses, coffee, and so on. So we celebrated October 12th with pride.

The Spanish came much earlier than the English, the Natives learned how to ride and raise horses from them. A century or so later, Iroquois could easily have traded for them but keeping horses through New England winters would have made them less practical than for a desert tribe.

There were never 60 million Indians in the Americas. That would be just under 1/6th of the current population of the US and Canada. Go down a list of the most populous cities in the US and Canada and pick out every 6th one. Where is there evidence of these cities? There is none. Indians didn't even live more than a mile or so from a body of fresh water so the land was mostly empty. When Lewis & Clark reached the Pacific Ocean they came across an Indian city of a little more than 10,000 people. They said this was the largest city they had encountered in all their journies.

Many of the more peaceful Indian tribes remained in better shape than the more violent ones who sometimes suffered huge amounts of death of their warriors and other timed suffered massacre of whole villages a result of retaliations. Treatise, bargains, agreements, can be struck with the white man in the name of peace and trade.
