It's been awesome seeing you diverge from only videogames to other mob related media, this is some great stuff! The Godfather might be a 50 years movie, but it's still a masterpiece

11:14 Holy shit, that's some insane make-up they had on the set. Brando looked like a very genuine old man
@mandolindleyroadshow7062 жыл бұрын
This is possibly the best documentary about the making of The Godfather I've ever seen, and I've seen virtually all of them. Schapiro's memory (unlike many of the cast and crew) is infallible. If there was one thing missing, it would be the great photos he took of James Caan's "fight" with Gianni Russo on East 118th Street in Manhattan. Those photos were staged after the scene was filmed, but captured more than what is in the film, including Camel cigarettes and Tom Dewey for President posters. Good stuff!

There was a dead-on parody of that scene in The Simpsons, right down to the pasted-over election posters for Mayor Quimby.

10:10 There’s an interview with James Cann on KZbin somewhere in which he mentions that the bullet squib scene was shot in just one take and that he was scared that he might lose his right hand because one of the exploding squibs was right next to it.

When people ask me, "What is your favorite mob film of all-time"?? I answer both "Godfather" 1 & 2. To me, both these classics are like one single film. In any event, "The Godfather" should have been voted in as number#1. (*sorry "Citizen Kane"*)

So how does he take the pictures during the scenes without the shutter sound being an issue?
@WALSTIB1072 жыл бұрын
he says it in the piece: he used a special metal box with padding inside called a "blimp" that the camera sat in. He could see thru a hole in the back into his viewfinder, and of course there was a hole in the front for the lens, and he could advance the film and click the shutter with buttons on the outside of the box. The box and padding silenced the "click" of the shutter.
