I’m always surprised what cars go for at auction as there a risk compared to a garage I got lucky when I was younger buying vans and few cars but prefer the safety of buying from a garage these days

I think that the second hand prices of the older cars at around the £3000 to £5000 mark have become relatively expensive when we compare what we can get for around the £8000 mark these days!!

If you don't see and take a close look at the car before buying you could be making a massive mistake, Pics hide a lot of faults and that's all you've got when buying online. So many people these days are too trusting or too lazy to do their homework.

On the other hand some of them went through for silly money (Brewsters) as you say. Had 2007 1.6 petrol berlingo. Car has been brilliant still looks almost as new, drives perfect, no rattles. Solid underneath and quiet, smooth and frugal. Most underated car imo.

My local auction in the South East today, anything any good was making top money Lee. Stay well clear of those Q7's, they are absolute money pits, Tuscon seemed cheap but as you say, not the best of sellers.

You think it is bad up there, trying coming down south! Mark one Focus(s) are going for silly money down here. Went to see a lightly dinged up 05 plate with 140k on the clock last week. it was a £995 car on a good day and was up for £1800. The seller didn't had no movement on the price at all and we went for some lunch to think about it. we put an offer for £1200 in the first time and went back to put an offer for £1400 an hour later and the freaking car had sold for full asking! I think anyone with 10 grand in their pocket right now could get themselves a massive bargain! if you got 2 grand, you're getting much less of a car now!

VW up/citigo/Mii trio do suffer from rust around the fuel cap, water and muck collects in the fuel cap area and rusts from inside out, a lot of guys fit wheel arch liners to prevent it, I believe the newer models have liners already fitted.

Not a fan of the Up! and its clones. Rust coming through around the filler flap is very common. Fair few problems with clutches and g/boxes on the earlier ones. Not bomb-proof like the Aygo..

The prices of some old stock amaze me at the minute, the sooner they put to bed the electric car faff the better. I think the confusion about can we can't we keep using petrol over electric is cocking up the buyers market. Not a chance most folk will shell out the prices for a car with less range than the one they have at 4 times the price! Really enjoy your posts mate all best.

I spent a good few days rubbing off the flakey lacquer then respraying them because I thought they were nice looking wheels lol . I think there’s a common issue with the Up/Mii/Citigo rusting around the fuel filler cap. I think it’s something to do with a lack of rear wheel arch liners. There’s a lot of posts on the Up owners forum about it.

Same corrosion problem on our 2015 citigo. After a £500 contribution from skoda and a trip to an approved bodyshop, the paint bubbling came back after 2 weeks. Now px it.

Usual thing you wonder why people put what is on paper a good popular sought after car in the auction, but after close inspection you realise why they are there bad paint, dents, high mileage, basically what would be classed as a shed. The only reason these £350 car's fetch daft money is because dealers are daft enough to pay it. If they left the crap on the auction floor and didn't bid then they would find prices coming down when sellers realise there £350 car isn't going to fetch £800.

I can't see how a dealer would make money on that Titanium. I think it was 1100+fees ? then it needed welding and god knows what else. There might be a tiny bit left in it but no where near enough for a sensible dealer. Love the fact you stick to your guns Lee (for the most part). No desperate Dan buying for you sir.

But it has to be the right car upto 4k and newer then 07 plate as when she was born I bought her a number plate hence its go to be 07 up looking at where you go looks good prices

My energy costs for this year look to be between £5 to £6K . Insurance has gone up 50%. Food costs have doubled over the past 18 months. I can assure anyone watching that a diesel car would not attract an investment from me - I cannot afford a Euro 6 and ULEZ is spreading. My existing diesel will be scrapped if it does not pass an upcoming MOT . My wife's little Focus will be our sole vehicle and will be maintained to last as long as possible. What would I invest in a car if I was so minded ? Maybe up to £1500 for a beater to run into the ground if the right one came up second hand. Sorry - there is no room for you in that - the blame is entirely the Governments.

the government have absolutely failed this country. its an absolute shame, decades of near 0 interest rates (essentially free money) and they’ve done nothing with it. no infrastructure, no nationalised energy, nothing. an entire generation will suffer because of this. they’re pushing us all towards electric cars but where is the network needed? all this government have done is banned things that work.

Don’t get it. Try and sell an older car privately and you won’t get a call. P/ ex it and you get offered peanuts, which when they go to auction sell for double your p/ex offer. Win, win for the dealer. They need a reality check. I sold cars in the 8o’s for a small family dealer. We had 12-15% in the base price. We,d often give 13% away to secure the deal. Those days are gone. Dealers give nought away. No competition. I was in the market for a new car on PCpC 15 dealers quoted within £20.00 of each other. Where’s the competition. It’s a cartel.

Prices down south re high but i got lucky have purchased a 2012 Hyundai i10 for £2800 not too bad at all as i was in desperate need of a car , its done 80 thousand miles but should be ok , it drove well enough

@@carukchannel Thanks my friend , It is the 1.2 version with a Timing chain no advisories on Mot which was done a week ago and previous Mots are clean too , it drove very well i am surprised how nippy the i10 is for such a small vehicle , I am currently driving a 2023 Corsa hire car and it is very slow in comparison , I do not understand why Vauxhall has made the new Corsa so large ?
