In my country traffic recover for highways is typically externally outsourced to competent contractors. But the Government Agency does do internal for busy more intense highways/tunnels that need on-site recovery and they are very quick. I see them stationed on ramps/little gravel pits near the motorway and they respond within minutes. Unbelievable how incompetent the UK truly is with this. Standard send-out procedure is a truck with a crash barrier that extends out, a truck with bumpers and at least 2-3 crew members. No cost to the person involved because they pay for rates via petrol/taxes etc. I am baffled how New Zealand can run a tight ship within minutes and the UK can barely send out crew personnel for 4 hours.

2 months ago my oil filter failed on the M42 at 70mph, pissing all my oil out onto the plastic tray under the engine. I was about 1 mile from the Hopwood Services junction so bravely (or stupidly) risked seizing my engine by getting off the motorway and stopping in the layby on the A441 where the flower man usually is. This was at 6:30pm. Got on the phone to the RAC straight away, explained the issue (which involved filling in an online form! Never actually SPOKE to a human!), gave them the cause AND the remedy (Send a guy with an oil filter and a jug of oil) The RAC texted me an hour later saying it would be a 2 hour wait. After 3 hours waiting I got a call from them asking me if it would be OK to send someone "in the morning at around 7am" 😡 After explaining to them that I was 8 miles from home, sat in my car in a layby and it "f*king was NOT OK", they finally sent a 3rd party recovery vehicle from a local garage... 7 HOURS LATER!! Imagine if I'd just stopped immediately on the hard shoulder of the M42! Next time I break down I'm gonna stay on the motorway and say I'm a pregnant woman.

The Orangey lot are useless. Just after Christmas (early hours, day after Boxing Day) I broken down with a busted clutch on the A449 in the dark bit just north of Penkridge. The wait time went from 40mins, to 90mins, to 6 hours, to 12 hours, over a 2 hour period. It was 4am by then. Giving up on the lot of them, I decided to jam the can in 3rd and chug home. As I passed Catch Corner, I spotted a Burke Bros truck, a Buckleys, and 3 Orangey vans in the layby. Chugging to a halt I asked if any were assigned to me. One of them was, but for the next day. So I chugged on home slowly with my hazards on (passed by 3 police cars), drove into the car park, and bounced off the wall. And that was when the police took notice (unmarked car parked outside ths flats). They are all useless.

I got stuck a couple weeks ago. It took the RAC 31 hours, that’s from me notifying them to then getting me home. My allocated time slot kept getting pushed back and back. In the end, independant recovery firms worked together to get me back home. RAC are useless. They asked me to fill out a survey and I asked them to contact me because I wanted happy at all with how they treated me and basically abandoned me. Nearly a month or so now and still no one has been in contact with me. They’re absolute jokes.

I love your content but I work for highways. Let’s just say we’re shortstaffed but they don’t want to hire any people at the moment so people are waiting longer. They will give you excuses on the phone because we’re not allowed to tell public but obviously on KZbin I can I can even send you the email to prove it.
@alexritchie45864 ай бұрын
Government agencies are always 'short staffed' because for every extra government worker you add, you don't increase production, you just further divide the existing workload. Taking this to its logical conclusion, government workers consider their department 'fully staffed' when none of them are actually doing any work, and since that requires one to divide by infinity, no government agency can ever be 'fully staffed', physically, mathematically, or otherwise.

A third party recovery company took it to Cambridge Services while me and my other colleague carried on all the way to Margate to do the drop-offs. Bearing in mind we stopped twice for food and drink, he was still waiting for the AA when we came back up the M11. Terrible service indeed.

From past experience, the chaps in the patrols are clued in but their bosses don't have a clue about safety. They think cameras are the answer but cameras will only give answers at the inquest. "I will pass your feedback to the bosses, who will give your complaint due consideration and file it because we have a shift change going on an Brian is bringing sausage rolls.

Don't blame the RAC patrols when I was caring for my elderly mother we had to use the Blue badge service which along with loan Female drivers is their priority service told a two hour wait by a very arrogant call taker which when you have a disabled passenger no food or drink (luckily all medication with us) is not what you want to hear rang again still no help the wardens where we had broken down provided water unlocked facilities and gave the RAC call taker the postcode and more details. When the patrol rang me to say he couldn't find us turned out the call centre staff had deliberately given the wrong location to say he was not happy was an understatement when I originally called he was five minutes away we waited six and a half hours (some priority service) the patrolman was straight on he phone to his supervisor to lodge a complaint about the call centre. Sadly in hindsight you should have run 101 explained the situation and they would have helped, I agree getting rid of the hard shoulder is ridiculous (A) how do you get a wheelchair user over the barrier if no hard shoulder (B) if reinstated they should be a lot wider (C) More emergency phones and cameras. Having worked in companies where you have a hand over briefing and have to do vehicle checks on my own since most of he highways vehicles are double crewed it shouldn't take them more than five minutes, the police not only have to check their vehicles but log onto a computer and still have to go out on calls
