these people in power have no fucking idea of how regular citizens live. the disconnect is insane. politicians should NOT get paid big wages. it is a service they are doing, for the people, for a better future. those big wages they get, only attracts the worst kinds of people. there are people financing vehicles with 100,000 miles that are 7 years old with up to 15-22% interest after putting 2000 down, through special lenders that dealers have. in some states, it is illegal, in others, anything goes. the whole time i would say the pledge at school it was a lie, it is not one nation under god, it is 50 nations plus territories under Profit, with hidden fees and injustice for most.

Thieves* Not all of them. Used to work for a dealership that was family owned. It was more likely the hourly paid employees got shafted. Even worked at a Hertz dealership for a period of time. Nothing can hold a candle to Drivetime and Carvana... once there was a girl who came in to have her recently purchased Mazda looked at from Drivetime. Said how much it sucked to already need work on it. Then talked about how if she didn't need the car she'd get rid of it. They had her interest rate so high, that she'd pay double the price it was sold for... Carvana isn't any better. At the dealership I worked at there was an A3 that came in. Curious on how carvana inspected their cars before sale... this was post delivery like the drive time car... the tech told me "it's junk. It's junk." Implying the car likely never been looked at and just thrown up for sale.

Would never happen, too much consumers and money for a manufacturer to do. Plus don't you realize the manufacturer makes more money when the dealership buys it from them and they get a cut of the profit. You don't realize it, but they are the messenger. All the other guys get more money out of it too. I.e banks, lenders, manufacturers, etc.
@juanc5149

Manufacturers sell at invoice. That’s it. They don’t make shit for anything above invoice. It’s no different than a retail store selling goods. Anything sold for above cost is for the retail store to keep. If they sold at msrp, they would keep the profits from selling at invoice. (Because manufacturers cost is lower than invoice.). Plus additional profits of msrp. They could absolutely take the running costs of dealerships and turn a profit. It would probably be more streamlined as well.
@ZtyIe
@ZtyIe 7 ай бұрын
@juanc5149 Yes and no Manufacturers give out unit bonuses to dealers depending on total units sold. That's because they are profiting off of cars sold after the fact. They wouldn't give dealers bonuses for no reason.
@juanc5149
@juanc5149 7 ай бұрын
@@ZtyIe Unit bonuses are given because profits multiply per each additional unit sold. You can’t make a logical argument that a car manufacturer would lose money, if they setup their own sales and vehicle repair and maintenance department, because then car dealerships wouldn’t profit, they would be operating at a loss. Other than initial start up cost, there would be additional profits for manufacturers to have.

I worked at a dealership. One night as we were closing up. I was waiting with the owner and his son at the front door until the alarm system could be activated. The son was telling the Father , they should mail out coupons to people that have bought vehicles from them giving them 20% off any accessories buy.. The father stood there, thinking with that 1000 yard stare, rolling it around in his mind. Then he started slowly, nodding his head. Yes, then he said this which shocked me. “Yeah, that way, we get a second chance to kick em in the balls”--he said that with a cold blooded blank expression , he did not smile, his son did not smile after that statement either.. I was shocked at that approach to business by the owner, who always seemed so friendly, and he was such a great handshaker and backslapper, smiling in the customers faces all the time.. I guess that is what, being a risk, taker, businessman does to you..

In Alberta a friend had his car inspected before going on a very long road trip. He noticed a very minor issue and went to a different place to have the issue fixed. They told him he had a broken spring and it would cost $500 to have it fixed. He went to a highly rated mechanic to have him do a unbiased inspection. The top rated mechanic found that the tire shop was not telling the truth that there was nothing wrong with the springs.

I usually try to stay out of the comments but you have no idea what you’re talking about. The cars in question are used vehicles. Manufactures sell new vehicles and they sell them to dealerships as they build them. If the deal threshold weren’t buying in bulk the auto manufacturers would go out of business and all of the employees. Cars would be made to order and take years, the entire system would crumble. Certified pre owned doesn’t mean that EVERYTHING was fixed. It means that the vehicle meets the criteria of being certified. The news channels are just like Hollywood. They know nothing about how the real world works but pretend that they do and people like you listen to them because like them you too are a fool.

We took it in on trade for $4500, had it marked $12,999, and by the time she left the finance office, she paid almost $22,000 for that car. But that’s not even the scamming I’m talking about. I recently learned that Certified is meaningless. I have a friend that used to work at a Honda dealer. He told me that sometimes they don't do inspections because techs don't want to do them. The reason being is that they don't make any commission on inspections. Service writers hate scheduling certified inspections because of the same reason, and those cars get in the way of earning commission because they can't write up a service for a customer when an inspection is in the way. It's all about greed and money.

Yep, had the exact same experience at Stevens Creek Nissan in San Jose, CA. I was buying out my lease and they kept trying to make me look at the monthly payment only, even though I have eyes and can do basic math to see that the numbers don’t match up. I had to storm into the manager’s office and demand the manager stop sending the salesman back and forth if they aren’t willing to take the extra useless coverages off as I requested multiple times. Always, always put whatever number they give you into your calculator and make sure it doesn’t include anything you don’t want before you sign anything. I have since sold the Nissan and switched to a Tesla because I swore off shopping at any dealerships. All I had to do is click on the one I want at the advertised MSRP, pay a deposit online that’s no more difficult than shopping for shoes online, then they tell me to submit insurance and final payment before telling me to go pick it up. No negotiations, no upsell, no wasting half a day at the dealership. It’s exactly how car buying should be. I’d vote for politicians that support repealing car dealership franchise laws that block manufacturers from dealing directly with the customers. This middleman industry has run its course and it’s time to let it die.

@@silverdale3207 It isn't legal, but they still do it. This happened to my niece last year. They went in for a based model Civic, and just before they sign, her mom saw the itemized list included scratch protection film, and some sort of anti-theft system lock, for an additional $550. When asked to remove these 2 items, the dealership told them they don't have any units without those addons already installed in stock. Since they already spent so much time test-driving, credit checking, they just bit the bullet and signed the contract. Throughout the whole process, the dealership never once brought it up, or ask if they wanted those addons. You gotta catch these yourself.

I worked at dealerships over 40 years and some dealerships if you bought something like a warranty we would show the price up front and before you went into finance. The problem is who checks the dealerships to make sure they are doing everything by the book. Like everything else the government has agencies that never check only when their is a complaint and this goes for restaurants, insurance companies who checks them. They only check them when it’s to late.

I can assure you many dealerships do this. Certified preowned doesn't exactly mean much of anything and is not what many consumers think it is. And most dealers won't spend the cash to have them properly certified until the sale and they pass the inspection charge on to the customer. Nearly all the back-end charges are this way. For example, window etching for theft prevention often isn't applied to a vehicle until it's cleaned and brought for the customer. And many times it's not even done but charged anyway. Granted 5k dollars is a lot for the inspection so they were clubbing them on the head with that price as well. When you go into the back office at the dealership that is usually where they start nickel and dining you and clubbing you over the head. Free oil changes are never free either it's in the fees. And the interesting part is even though dealers scam people and overcharge them for buying a car they make their money overcharging for service.

Here in my town dealers were leaving wide blank spots on all the paperwork that customers would sign. Afterwards they would run the documents through a printer and place text in the blank parts with extra fees and terms beneficial to them of course. These were not the buy here, pay here dealers, these were most the major brand dealerships. When it went to court they would say that the customer read through everything and signed it. At least now everything is digital and if you finance through your own bank or credit union, they have someone scanning the contract.

I was livid and flat out walked out of there.
@jx4479
@jx4479 7 ай бұрын
I’m a dealer but these fees are just a result from regulators being dumb. Example: a bank charges a $1k fee to provide your customer with a loan. You cannot legally charge a bank fee to your customer, and you must also sell a car for the presented advertised price. Therefore the dealer would then only get let’s say 9k on an advertised 10k car. They have to come up with the 1k difference somehow. A dealer can legally charge any sort of other fee they want. So to make up the difference via a “inspection fee” so the net is the same to the dealer. All in all, everything would be better if dealers could just charge customers accrued costs in the deal. It would way more transparent to just say yo your credit is bad the bank is charging this fee to provide you a loan. Here’s the total breakdown, but regulators simply are just not aware of the daily workings of a dealer
