As of 3 days ago I am quitting my dealership job as a Lot Manager because they won’t give me a raise to keep up with inflation, and won’t give me a promotion to a better position. I’ve worked so hard for them but now they will just replace me with someone who is willing to work for less pay than me.

@Miss Demeanor Only because many dealership failed to uphold MSRP and provide the lowest finance rate with full disclosure but let greed get in their way when people are in need of transportation; similar analogy as those who buy out all the toilet paper, surgical masks, sanitizer and wipes from local retail stores and sold them 3+ times the price on Amazon during Summer 2020. Luckily Amazon banned the sales of those greedy private sellers and then those retail stores banned the return for refund on these items. So some people are getting ripped off without a choice when transportation is essential in this country especially travelling 30 miles to work/school are considered normal distance in some states; and then these buyers are at risk of default and car repo because of higher than budgeted monthly payment, potential laid-off (Twitter, Meta, Carvana etc) , having negative equity on the car loan when used car price are now going back down...

Do not pay for the dealer accessories, I walked away from a 21 Accord Touring, when they tried to charge me for things I did not want, like window tent, ceramic coat on the paint and pin stripes. Salesman was like thats how we make our money, and I was like that BS you make enough off of financing and warranties. Salesman called me back the same day saying they would take them off of the price if I was still interested in the car, which I was so, before TTL I was able to get the car for $33,500 and sticker was $38,500 . Granted I bought the car during the height of Covid and I knew car sales were down like 30% from the previous year. I knew I had them over the barrel and were dying to sale what they could.

Everyone knows they will all be replaced by clicklane. I've already seen clicklane starting to be tricks & games, but if they use this service effectively--there will be very few sales people, finance managers or even the deal managers. Clicklane also has the potential to erase Autotrader from their biz ops. This is a big deal. The tesla effect will erase all these jobs. There will be some, but mostly operations and service. the next thing will be to close physical locations, which will start soon. A lot of this has to do with interest rates & the slowdown of the economy--but more has to do with a shift to AI and Tesla--and to use the internet as the showroom and there will be no need to have dealers on every major road. This is why Store owners are bugging out. This isn't a downturn. It's a paradigm shift. This is also why carvana will not go bankrupt. It won't. They will be the last standing & will control used car pricing & delivery--many existing dealers will use them as the core & dump major parts of their used car operations. (Think tesla who do not do used cars).

Here’s the thing…service departments are in desperate need of technicians in my area, Ford, Toyota, Kia, all of the dealers. I use Hyundai and their appts are always booked full 4 weeks out. Seems like instead of firing them, train those workers in service dept. I think the car production, financing will eventually turn around and sales will be extremely strong. I know 2 coworkers wanting to buy new Toyota’s and Kias, but there is no inventory on the cars they want and when they come in, +5k market adjustment. They are waiting it out. If the situation with supply sorts itself out, there will be a flood of new car shoppers. I don’t think they trust used cars, floods, repos, etc.

Presently, there's an ongoing-cost-of-living crisis occurring that's effecting most people's finances negatively, so they don't have any discretionary $$$ that would provide them the option of splurging on a new (or used) ride at the moment. I think the cash buyer's are the only ones sitting in the cat'-bird's seat, If I was fortunate enough to be one of them & was in the market for a car, I would totally avoid the middleman which is the dealership & reach out directly to the manufacturer. WHAT? Courtesy Toyota of BRANDON--GET there! Ben is living in some weird state? Toyota is selling TUNDRAs at MSRP--they don't mark-up. Some other dealerships are telling folks $10,000 to $20,000 over sticker--people are BUYING. Brandon Ford - (literally next door)--BRONCO Raptor - $50k over sticker - GREAT DEAL RIGHT? Ben you then have video telling us DEALERS are still selling cars over sticker and the line is still out the door!

@@IzaguirreC nice, stealerships love to rip ppl off but when is their turn to get burn, miraculously the price can go down, no more chip shortages bs and more cars in the lots. If I get a car (not now I am Happy with my s2000) I would get it from a Toyota dealer that I called for rav4 and there were not markups.

@@kiriaz82 you sure they were not marking anything up? I had very few asking msrp but they also forced tint nitrogen and interior protection for 1k. Ford had the worst markups I’ve ever seen, closest dealer to me (Griffith ford San Marcos) had 10k markup on almost all vehicles, even higher if it was a ford performance / Shelby etc. After months and months of trying to find the right replacement I’m sticking with what I have currently (2020 taco) usually swap vehicles every 2 years, will be keeping mine for the long haul. (13k miles). I’ve also been getting calls from dealers that I inquired about vehicles over 4 months ago.

@@IzaguirreC as far as know no markups however, this didn’t mean that they would’ve done it once you got there. I didn’t end up going but I am still waiting for the GR no markups so far but will see. They told me it can take up to 8 months to 1.5 year to get one lol. Perfect timing if a recession hits.

Hi Ben, usually I like your videos however today I have some serious issues with what you have said. First: you’re using data that is way behind the actual conditions of the market and overall you inner change profit per car with gross profit per car. The numbers you quoted aren’t happening. Second: I’m sure many struggling dealerships will try the old Add equipment trick as you suggested. That has close to zero chance to work this time because the only way it has ever worked in the past is if the bank or finance company would finance the equipment! I don’t think that will happen. Everything I can tell about the market, we’re in a repossession apocalypse almost! Banks and finance companies will all want more cash down to reduce the exposure, and not finance frivolous add-ons. Third: unfortunately, there’s been lots of dealerships who have been just getting by in the market with record sales and near 0% interest! As both of those key components have recently changed, there will be hundreds of dealerships that close up for good. The closings will be Exacerbated if there are also manufacturers/ who fail like they did in 2008 and 2009.
