I always laugh at myself when someone mentions the paint protection plans because a car dealer definitely got me with that. When I bought my last car in 2017, I had recently moved from OH to CA and he convinced me the California sun would ruin my paint and I would need it. I guess I missed the day in science class where we learned California has a different sun than Ohio 🤣

Unfortunately dealers choose to make buying a car a miserable experience. Apparently return business is not part of their business model

I just don't understand this. I'm in the fortunate position that I could afford to buy a car every 3-4 years but the dealership experience is so miserable that I keep my old jalopy running as long as I can to avoid dealing with the dealer garbage. Had they treated me even moderately decent they could have had a customer for life, but I guess one big profit sale was worth more than five reasonable ones.
@chrisbarbz92384 ай бұрын
Nah. They've cornered the market (or so they think) and are counting people's impulse to buy buy buy and misguided people are biting. But I agree that's an absolute sure-fire way to turn off a frugal, critical-thinking customer.

For real. My sister married a Japanese guy that she met in college and moved to Japan afterwards. I visited her this summer vacation and she took me to a Toyota dealership to buy her first car there. It was a night and day difference compared to the stealerships here who added a mandatory dealership package addon and a market adjustment price on top of the MSRP when I was buying a Ford Maverick for college
@AkioWasRight4 ай бұрын
That's because return salesmen aren't apart of the business model. The turn over rate in sales and management is high, while they still have to meet performance targets in the limited time they work for these dealerships. This results in people who say and do just about anything to make a sale. They couldn't care less about what you do 3, 6 or 20 years from now. Really, if you're looking to be return customer to a dealer, that's like a woman who's looking for relationship with a guy interested in one-night stand.

Leased my last Mercedes and was in the financial guys office to sign papers. When he printed out the contract for me to sign I noticed a few things. The advertised acquisition fee from the website was $700. My contract said $900 for acquisition fee. I also found I was being charged $300 for the lost key insurance I never asked for. I looked at him and then proceeded to X out those lines. Then I said while you’re printing out a new contract take off the 3 year maintenance fee I was going to buy. You are going to offer that to me for nothing because I’ve bought 3 other cars from this dealership! I then looked him in the eye and said “ if you try to argue or say sorry that was a mistake, I’m walking right now. He didn’t say a word. I signed the papers and walked out with the car. I still have the car 6 years later. I ended up buying it under replacement cost.

I used to work for a Cadillac service department. I encouraged every customer to look at a factory extended warranty. I did this because I was trying to minimize their out-of-pocket repair costs. I had customers that in three successive months they had mechanical breakdowns each between 1500 and $2000 at the time I believe the cost for a 500 deductible was around $1600-$1800. I think zero deductible plan was just over 2000. I further explained that in my opinion getting the zero deductible would pay itself off in a pretty short amount of time, I can’t tell you how many times, customers come back to me and thank me for recommending the extended warranty with zero deductible! My own personal opinion if you buy your reliable car such as a Toyota or Honda maybe, you can skip an extended warranty. It all boils down to your comfort level and your budget.

So if you install a Garmin Camera system and your transmission fails, they can't void the warranty, but if it is installed incorrectly and it shorts out the electrical, that's on you. That's why you hire insured companies to do the installation. They are responsible.

3:04 that's an F1 style third brake light... Those are intentionally bought and added to USDM cars. The JDM WRX has it's rear fog light there, which is something we don't have here.

I went to Hendricks Honda in Charleston, SC. I wanted a new Honda Accord. So what was on all of them? LoJack. $750. Told sales guy I was interested but I wasn’t paying for LoJack. “How about we lower the cost so you’re not paying for LoJack?” Me…”No. if you’re willing to lower the cost so I’m not paying for LoJack, then lower the cost AND remove the LoJack and cost” No deal…they wouldn’t budge. Neither would I.

And the biggest ripoff of at all is extended warranty insurance from a dealership. If a purchaser wants buy the extended warranty insurance, skip at the dealership and buy directly from the insurance company that sells the insurance. Cheaper.
@XX-1664 ай бұрын
That only works if you can find the pipeline to that insurance company and they allow you to buy directly from them.

I recently bought a used car and they tried to charge me $891 for a used car inspection. I told them that that was part of the legal requirement in our state for them to conduct that inspection so I'm not paying for it. I was about to walk out and they took it off the invoice. That was among two other charges I told him I wasn't going to pay for, including an appearance package and locking wheel nuts.

I used to work with a company that would offer the dealerships a package called the Advantage Package. Within the package, it will include literally every single thing in this video… but the company would charge the dealers $200 or $250. The dealerships would label it on their car sticker as the Advantage program and charge customers up to $4,500.00. It’s bs. Please please please walk away if you see it. It’s not worth it.

Warranty Administrator here. Brother, you need to do your homework on warranty. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act requires manufacturers to honor the original warranty unless they can prove that the aftermarket modification (either the parts or installation) was responsible for the failure that caused warranty repairs.

Great and who makes that decision?

Stealerships don’t do their homework
@lefty_19764 ай бұрын
@@shag139simple, hard fact that you may not want to hear but here it goes. Initially, the dealer. The dealer will do everything in its power to decline a warrantable repair in favor of customer pay, which of course is a lot more profitable to them. From that point on out it becomes an admitted nightmare for the customer. You can reach out to the manufacturers customer service or customer care line and open a case. They will follow up with the dealer but whether or not the dealer will actually choose to handle the matter is another one of life’s great mysteries. A manufacturer DPSM or FOM may get involved, maybe they won’t. It may be the judge that ultimately decides but if it’s gotten to that point, you’re talking lawyers and tons of court fees.

Speaking of reconditioning fees. I walked away from a purchase I was willing to make on a used Nissan Armada. I told the sales person and the manager that if buy the car if they put new tires on it since the ones on it were wore slap out. I was told we can probably work that out to have it wrapped in the loan. I said no that's not good business it should have been done already your asking full book value for it I'll take my money some where else.

Incorrect on the "voids your warranty part. The Magnusson Moss act has been around for decades. Installing non-oem parts is perfectly fine. If it damages a part that you are trying to warrantee, yes, thats not covered. It doesnt void your WHOLE warranty. I install an aftermarket stereo and my transmission goes, that has nothing to do with it. If it was true show me where toyota makes their own oil, not just putting their label on it. Ill wait... I agree with the rest of what you say, BUT the "voids your warranty" is a huge huge lie. Know your law.

Hey Mr. Dude.A couple big things you forgot.I work for a large new car dealer,and every car ,new and used,had an upcharge for nitro filled tires,,tape stripes on new cars and really high doc fees.They would say you have to pay for those because it's already on the car.They also had no negotiate on the price of the vehicle,their price was on a sign from the inside mirror.They said hassel free shopping,no salesmen.All thier salesmen were called managers,same difference.Bottom line was it cost a lot more to shop there,but people liked it becasue they didn't have to hassel about the price.
