No clue why some people are down-voting this. This was a great how-to and I especially like how you mentioned your first two ideas. Looks like I'll be picking up some of that specialized 3M for my Cavalier.

Interesting Ted I also have no idea why people are downvoting this, I've followed this tutorial and I was able to fix a trim in my door that was starting to fall off, using exactly the same tape.

Interesting Ted: After reading some of the replies about this tape, I have to agree with some of them. It works to an extent. I have a friend that works for Ford in Kansas City and told me to use this. I tried it once for my door molding and it failed after a couple months. I just left them off. I don't feel confident trying this tape again just for a small molding on the roof. I had better luck with Liquid Nails for the other side. I doubt I'll waste any money on this tape again, I know about how it worked, or didn't. I'll vote for "No" as well, just my opinion.

@@chass5438 apply tape to area. Before taking the green or red strip off use a heat gun to warm up glue. This helps with bonding

Thank you. Someone told me to get 3m glue, but this is way easier. I just love informative KZbin troubleshooters. Heck, I would have spent an unnecessary fortune at a body shop which is where I was headed.

You'll need to use an adhesion promoter to get it to stick properly. 3M make one. That's what the factory use, also good body work shops.

Good vid. Better practice is to wash with soapy water first to get off all dirt using a microfiber cloth- avoid a paper towel.. Then use the alcohol. To avoid scratching your car. My 2 cents.

I think I changed my mind about this tape. I work at an auto parts store and I can get this cheap. I'm going to give this tape another try for a short roof molding that I took off because it was rotted. We'll see what happens. I still don't think it's the best, tho. As I stated before below, I've actually had better luck with Liquid Nails for this. It's still holding solid. The other side didn't hold so well. Giving this one more try to put it to the test.

I used the alcohol prep that came with mine and apparently it didnt clean it good enough, they immediately popped off and the sticky tape is no longer sticky, apparently from the black residue of the molding it needs to stick it.. friggen great, they are brand new!

Say if the weather is too cold? Could you take off the strip and try and repair it in the summer?

Heat it up a bit with a hairdryer (section of trim and panel).

A nice little tip......If your Trim is plastic, run a heat gun over it before you put it back on, it'll make it look like new or newer!

May I ask if this fix would work on a triangular, I think it's called the wing mirror door mold, although the wing mirror isn't attached to it. It doesn't fall off completely but keeps popping out and won't stay in. I'm worried rain will get in and rust things as it is. It's a Ford focus '09.

no the manufactureres also the the same 3m trim mount tape, the problem people have is preparation of both surfaces, when its done right, they stick very well

Honestly I have only found epoxy glue to work. Had an e36 old bmw that I did all this with including gorilla glue. Only real solution was the loctite 5 min epoxy that mixes in the tube for you, clamps, painters tape, and being very careful. Amazing result through a few winters but very permanent so don't drip.

Body work done by a shop but molding peeled off back to them 4 TIMES told delay of parts. Truck looks bad saw your video. Ordered the tape. THANK you for saving me 3 more trips. I can do this. AUTO SHOP in cal are fucks..

You remove the 3M taped trim with fishing line. Put fishing line under trim and do a sawing motion to cut the bond

Factories in the past must have had a better quality molding tapes. They hold permanently and this tape only worked for about 2 months for my moldings until they started coming off again. I don't think they used this tape. I always saw it was black like tar. That held for years for all mine.

It prevents other car's doors from denting yours. And it's aesthetically pleasing.

It is a bumper for the doors, prevents getting those dings in parking lots and at a gas station. It protects the paint job in short.

My husband has used all brands & kinds of glues to re-glue the door molding on the driver's side over the years. No problem at all with passenger side door molding. On the driver side it is about one-third that's loose only, but it is still frustrating. Whatever glue he uses may keep the molding tight for several months, but over time we can see it coming slowly loose....again. Did he try Tiger glue. Yes, indeed. He has tried many glues, but never the the 3M double adhesive tape. So I it will be the try-out & cross our fingers that if it stays tight for over 6 months, we might have finally found a winner. I hope Tiger glue works permanently for you.

need to scrub with alcohol and super clean cloth several times on all parts, then when dry it should stick, if you are using a quality adhesive such as 3m
