bike was also pulled over far enough for the cop to get by, yes its still a double yellow, but otherwise the cop cant get up to the car at all!
@GlenGreig9 жыл бұрын
jhardy66617 The cop car was well into the oncoming lane. If oncoming traffic came around that corner, it would have been a potentially fatal situation. Sure, it would have meant that the cop wouldn't have been able to catch the guy as quick, but should that be the cops primary concern? Should the cop be seriously endangering people's lives to ensure others don't slightly endanger people's lives for a few seconds longer?
@CadillacKid9 жыл бұрын
in north america particularily the states police have, during a situation, 100% unlimited authority and can literally do anything they want, their actions are subject to review after the fact but in the moment they have next to no restrictions. which is why stuff like this occurs.

Yes Shon Dee, here's how that works. When the people of the state decided they wanted traffic laws, they also said officers are exempt from the rules of the road when they are in pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law. In California, where this occurred, you might want to look up section 21055. It can be found if you go to the DMV website.
@mariohendriks110 жыл бұрын
Cops still aren't allowed to put other people in danger. This cops overtook on place with very little visibility into the bend. I mean cops are also allowed to cross a red light, but if they do it in a town at 60 MPH the're using that exemption in the wrong way.
@Sashabooboo10 жыл бұрын
The question had to do with the legality of the move, not the safety aspect. It's legal because the law says it can be done. Obviously it's never safe to pass anyone when parallel-median yellow painted lines are in place. More facts are needed, (radio communication for example). Mathematically it's possible to make a 7 foot lateral movement at 90 feet per second when you have 4 seconds of view, (the perspective behind the motorcycle). I'm sure someone working this sleepy little hovel everyday for years probably has a better understanding of the traffic volume, (given the fact only 3 vehicles total were seen during the entire video. I'm also certain no one would say anything if it was a fire truck. If I was a cop I wouldn't have stoppped it. Sure the guy on the bike would have a "the cop didn't do anything" story to put on youtube vice but that's better than being called a reckless person. Either way is a catch 22.

the one thing everyone seams to have missed is that the rider passing the car in the beginning rides the yellow lines while passing. so what if he did or didn't get into that left lane to go around a car that was stopping . the problem is when you do something like that its giving car drivers the impression that you don't need the whole lane and it leads to drivers passing riders and not giving them the whole right lane as they go by. cars should always give motorcycle riders the same space they would give any other car so motorcycle riders should not cut through spaces too small for a car because it gives drivers the wrong impression

In my country (UK) a double unbroken white line means you cannot go over it to overtake. You can overtake if you don't go over the lines. I'm assuming that the double yellows mean exactly the same thing in USA. Obviously I am just generalising here.
@dazzelya11 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind the following; action cams often make it look like they are going faster than the actually are (due to the wide angle lens). Also, this person is using a chest mount which will make the viewing angle quite different than when riding the bike yourself. Lastly, in a corner you also turn your head to follow the road whilst leaning. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in this video with the above in mind. :) Countersteering is a fact but it's only for a split second.

The "yellow plague" is everywhere in the USA. It's a vicious circle. The vast majority of drivers don't have the experience to be able to pass safely on a two lane road, so when they do try it, it's done dangerously, leading the authorities to ban passing on even more roads! This ends up with drivers getting so frustrated, they take a chance. Drivers in Europe are vastly more experienced with being able to overtake, and do so frequently, leading them to be very much more experienced. You can tell when drivers lack experience... they accelerate when being passed. And this is standard practice in America.

It may vary by state but that sounds odd to me. In my state there are many laws which emergency vehicles must adhere to even when "running code" with their lights and siren on. All vehicles, including police are not allowed to activate their high beams within 500 feet of oncoming traffic (except for very quick flashes when their lights automatically "wig wag" back and forth) and it's illegal for them to drive with their spot light on or point it at oncoming traffic. I suspect the officer lied.

I know in va, filtering, lane splitting or any other variation is illegal. The lane could be twice as wide as normal and if you pass another vehicle you are breaking the law. Until this year, pulling up to a light next to another bike was illegal... Sounds like cali is more forgiving than here...

Didn't you do the very same illegal double yellow line pass at the start of the video? No cop around then I guess!

I'm in Oregon and maybe it's just me but the worst here are people driving any kind of Subaru WRX.. I swear every single idiot driving one has to put on the same loud obnoxious terrible sounding exhaust ever made and a douche whistle (small bore turbo blow off valve). Then they allllll tailgate and drive like they're in a Fast & Furious movie.. only most of them are terrible drivers so you always see them shuddering forward at every light and cringe hearing that poor clutch slip.. then once they finally get rolling they proceed to mash the throttle to red line as if it makes up for it.. only to slam on the brakes for the next light and then do it all over again.. I swear to god literally 95% of them do this.. I cry myself to sleep a lot because of how sad this is.

Keith Olsen Where I live, Subaru Impreza WRX/WRX STi's are really common (Make up about 10-15% of the car 'population') which seems low, but they're everywhere. Despite all of these Subaru's around, I hardly see any of them gunning it 24/7, or at all, for that matter...

It's true, even where I live (Alaska), we get a lot of Subaru WRX drivers like that too. Which is a shame, because Subaru's are great cars. Luckily it is usually the turbocharged models with the biggest rap. I drive an Impreza myself. Other than the fact that it eats a quart of oil every month or two, it's a great car. I kind of wished I had a turbocharged one, like a WRX, but, hey, then I might turn into a douchebag driver.

Wow, the cop passed you in the middle of a blind corner. Good thing no one was coming the other way.
