My e brake on my 2014 suburban won't release is their a manual release I can't see on the other side ?

My e-brake got stuck the other day but I did manage to get it unstuck. Then I drove to the store and back and it drove fine (no lag), plus when I did need to break normally (using the pedal) that was fine, too. By 'fine' I mean no lag, no issues. I did not use the parking brake again; I have always engaged my parking brake out of habit. But now I'm not sure if it's safe to drive or if I'm over-reacting. Should I take it to the garage? The last thing I need is an unnecessary service bill. The car (a 2008 Ford Focus) IS old so it may be rusted. I just want to know if I should have it towed to the station or if it even needs fixing at all as long as I don't use the parking brake anymore. ??

Rear wheels were locked tight after leaving car with e-break on. I had tried at night more than once to get it to budge but no luck. Watched your video and it was informative enough that I felt extra confident it was just locked up from age/rust so went out to give it one more try. It was late afternoon, warm and sunny, I thought that may help change the dynamic. I rocked it several times, pumped breaks, and "boom" the wheels unlocked and it slowly got back to normal, though it will needs some tlc from my mechanic when he is back from vacation. Thanks for this quick and in depth video! I'm currently having an issue with my 1993 mazda Miata. The emergency brake seems fine using It, but it's been happening quite often when the car sits for at least an hour or two, I go to start driving and the wheel feels like I'm being held back, until after about a 2-300 meters of driving I hear a small "pop" from one of the rear tires and then the car releases and starts driving like normal. So after seeing this video its leading me to believe that it's now due to the ebrake

I used my e brake last night, i can drive reverse easily after but when i drive forward I can hear screeching sound going 20km/hr and feel vibration when I go above 60km/hr then it would disappear but when I let go of the gas my car slows down quickly. Just wondering if my e brake is still being locked in or touching my rotors.

2006 mustang GT. The S197 model always has e brake issues. My cable pulls a little, but no enough to latch. Going to see if I can squeeze the mechanism to apply the brake with a c clamp. While the mechanism is clamped, I can see if the cable is seized by pulling on the newly installed handle. One of these two should be the problem. It’s a manual transmission also

Great explanation of how the PB system works, visually and verbally, however you did address the issue of the PB not working but not the issue of what to do if it is stuck on ( where the vehicle won't move) which is my situation but thanks for a good video that A. didn't have the music up so loud that you couldn't hear the guy talk .... B. a camera that wasn't hand held by the guy doing the work .... C. filmed in the dark with one swinging 60W light bulb .....

In my case I was sitting in traffic. And pulled up on the ebrake handle. Now in this car it's always a little tight, but doable, but needs to be pulled up all the way to ensure a total stop. I pulled up on it, needed a little bit more, and then something snapped! The handle went loose and I lost all ebrake power. Now the handle bounces around and doesn't go all the way down.

I had a rear wheel wine was doing my head in then in remember doing the brakes and removed the brake disk drum to inspect but when you remove it the parking brake boot gets loosened so putting it all back together and the parking brake had no tension at all. Had to jack the car up and tighten Noise is gone. All is well for now

Question: Inspections are due this month. My e-brake handle is super loose since November (Boston Winter), so I took it to the mechanic, then he showed the attachment to the 4-wheel disk (4.03 min) - those large springs were not moving. He said needs a to change the rare calipers and the job is about $600. After watching the video, I feel calipers are not need to be replaced. Any advice? I use my E-brake every time I park, yet my Sequoia E-brake is still frozen. Lots of rust since I’m in the Northeast, and it is an old Toyota known for rust.

So this is what's going on with my truck right now I can't get it to release so the spring must be damaged or weak because when I drive in reverse it will stop and feel like I hit something then I'll put it in drive then back in reverse and it will go but when I was out driving it will make a lot of noise sometime. But my question ❓❓ Is it okay to keep driving my truck like this or will it damage it❓

Good video on the brakes very informative. Ha you dont want to pull those brakes on too hard though or you will loose the top off that truck. You will need a dust pan and a brush to clean the rust up.

When releasing my parking brake it only returns half way (not forcefully like new) then i pull it up with my toes whilst pulling the lever. Small bumps in the road will depress it a click or 2 down.

Hi i forgot my e brake on when it got - 10C / 14F and I couldn't move my car when I released the e brake. I maybe drove like 40 meters because I tought it was bc of the ice. @@notchamomma4073 same happened to me this morning in UK -4°c. I put it down to the breaks freezing up. Was fine after 6 mins of driving but the car couldn't get upto speed for 6 mins and my ABS light is on too. I've took the handbrake off and popped it into gear while it's parked up. I looked this up and it's nomal, could be the handbrake cables housing isn't air tight and is letting moisture incauseing it to freeze in cold conditions.

After releasing my ebrake, it appeared to be stuck. I gave the gas pedal a bit of a press then I heard a snapping sound at the right-rear wheel. I think I might have damaged my ebrake.

Mine works great has about 6 clicks but when I drop it down it has like a 7mm freeplay where it’s engaging the light but not actually clicking yet and if i drop it a lot of the time it ends up staying up by that little tiny bit so I have to man handle it :/ why Is that

The brakes shoes have been changed and adjustment between the front seats done but still no positive result..thanks

I took my car to get the brakes replaced (front brakes) and they adjusted the rear ones, but now the hand brake is too hard to pull and it doesn’t go up as it used to. It drives normal.

10 degrees F here, went to drive my subaru forester 2010. warmed up car for about 10 minutes. released ebrake, started to drive off and noticed the break light was still on. did seem like car was not accelerating normally. drove it super slow to store about a mile away and back at about 20 miles an hour. didn't notice any burning smell, just didn't want to go fast. can you tell me what might be the problem? could it be something to do with the cold? did I damage my car by driving it? I wonder why the manual ebrake is acting normal, like is mentioned in the video, but it was driving like it was on as well as the light was on. arg. help please! do i need to take it in? I guess i should stop driving it for now. thanks!

Whoa, it's like they know what's wrong with my truck, same model as in the video. Two weeks ago I tried my parking brake but they froze in the applied position and I had to hammer them back. Even though when they were on I was still rolling backwards lol. Think I stretched the cable a bit too.

Had a retainer pin rust and break on drum brakes on a 98 Silverado. Chipped the shoe linings. Replaced shoes and hardware. Bled brakes as I also installed a new wheel cylinder. Backed up and hit the brakes several times to get self adjusters to engage the brakes better. Pedal was low and spongy. Ebrake was not engaging properly. Thought my Ebrake cable may have been stretched from when the drum brakes fell apart and maybe I needed to have the brakes bled at a shop with the computer to trigger the antilock bleeding process. Turned out the self adjusters didn't work. Removed the drums and manually adjusted the shoes. Ebrake works fine now and the regular brakes now have a much firmer and higher pedal.
