You have to keep records of all preventive maintenance done. Make sure your oil & transmission fluid changes changes are done on time. Make sure all your parts are factory parts, not off the market brand.

About 10 years ago I bought a used pickup and bought a warranty don;t remember the name of it now. Well a few months later had a transmission problem and took it to a chain transmission shop and they said sure they can fix it under my warranty. They fixed the transmission but the warranty company would not take their phone calls so I paid for it myself around $2200 and I tried calling them no return call. Some days later I saw Rusty Wallace as spokesman for this company soooo I got in touch with Rusty and told him what happened, well about 2 days later the warranty company called me and asked me why I had gotten in touch with Rusty Wallace to which I told them how I was being screwed around . In 3 days I had a check for the full amount of the repairs, YES

👍 you guys are 100% correct More than 30 years ago when I used to be an employee of automotive facilities I heard all the nightmares and headaches between customers insurance companies and my then current owners of the company or service managers. When I open up my own automotive business 30 years ago I was approached by insurance companies to do their work and I downright flat turn them all down. I had and still have to this day more billable hours per day than we can possibly take care of for the last 30 years to never ever want to even think about doing insurance work I would charge so much for the paper fee handling and phone calls it would drive the cost up astronomical if I was told I had to.

I once I added $900 for a bumper to bumper extended warranty to a brand new car witha total of 3 miles. Within the first 2 years the clutch went out and brakes failed. Neither were covered. The only assistance I received from them for the $900 paid was for a little over $9.00 to replace the passenger door pull up 🎉lock . Just like insurance companies, total thieves.

Totally agree with how you approached it Lucas. That's exactly what we do, but we explain it upfront to the customer that has a warranty. We also don't allow the warranty to send us the parts and I never agree to tear down anything for them to "verify" the failure. Good listen!

The last time I dealt with an extended warranty company they tried to dictate the price of the parts as well as labor. I was like you can send the tech to fix the car as well. I hung up and told the customer to give the insurance company a call to find a shop that could better serve them...

I had CarShield for about 3 or 4 months and my car began to act ugly. I took it to a mechanic that was affiliated with CarShield. My bill was $1'030.+, I had to pay the entire bill out of pocket. So where the coverage ND avoiding big bills? I'd been paying for the warranty that problvided me no coverage. I canceled the automatic payments to carshield and spent practically my entire retirement social security funds paying thecrepairc bill. I am still fuming.

VERY tough lesson to learn. I'm glad you got out of it. Never buy an extended warranty, period, but ESPECIALLY from a third party company. Oh, also, NEVER, EVER set up "automatic" payments for ANYTHING other than maybe a mortgage.

The only extended warranty worth anything is the manufacturer one. Also, many people don't know its possible to shop around for it. Dealers will try to "fitness" the financing numbers to rip you off, or sell you 3rd part warranties which are trash compared to the manufacturer ones.

Agree! I've been told that extended warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on and I know that's true. And, I think it's ingenuous to call them "warranties" because most people think that when they hear the word "warranty", that it will automatically work like the warranty that comes with a new car, where if something goes wrong the dealer will repair it at no charge no questions asked. But in reality an extended warranty is like health insurance before the ACA, where the company dictates on a whim whether something is "covered" or not. The only time I bought an extended warranty (When I didn't know as much as I do now), was when I purchased a pre-owned car for the first time, the car I now own currently. As it was my first pre-owned car, I though it might be a good idea. But when I had my first claim, my mechanic said it would be an 8 hour job. But the company (Not car shield) said "No, it's only a two hour job!) So, after paying my $100 deductible, I still had to pay something like 80 percent of the rest of the bill! Based on this experience, I did some calculations and found that I would need to have 14 $1,000 repair jobs on the car for the warranty to pay for itself! A relative of mine had a car that was the lemon's lemon but even if her car had been covered by the warranty I'd purchased, her car repairs still wouldn't have made the warranty pay for itself! Needless to say, I cancelled the warranty and got most of my money back, Luckily, the company was not nearly the pain that car Shield is reputed to be. Lesson, don't get an extended warranty ever!! Instead, put that money away for a rainy day. Then, when your car needs repairs, you'll have the funds and they will be approved by you!

I live in Socal, and have a 2018 GMC.When the factory warranty expired Ifound a company called Olive. Gave them a call and chose a plan where I paid 29 bucks a month and a 500 deductible. Anyway the tranny took a dump at around 115 thou. Olive paid for every cent of the repair. That throws a wrench in the claim that all extended warranties are worthless.

Manufacturer warranties aren't worth a damn either, had a new 2500 silverado that the transmission went out in, they said since he ran a landscape business and pulled trailers that it was his fault for the failure because he over heated it, which is bull. Had another silverado with lifter failure due to AFM, they told that customer that his aftermarket exhaust system was the reason the lifters failed. Like, what!?

No different than those who buy sports cars, only to have their warranties not honored because they took it to the track and it's seen as abuse.

Company is full of shit, denied my claim today from a drivetrain malfunction in my 2013 BMW 328i It's a bolt that connects to the wastegate, but because it's not directly connected internally to the turbo, they denied it.......6 months of wasted money!!!

Good luck on a repair shop that will except car Shield and what car Shield will and will not pay for. Save the money every month that you would pay car Shield and just pay for the fix yourself . Been down that road before.

Some years back I bought a used Mercedes and purchased the dealer offered Easycare service contract and a month afterwards the transmission went out. Easycare DID replace it after a $500 deductible. I bought a 2016 Mercedes E350 from Carmax with the Maxcare service contract. First problem was the front differential failed (which was covered). I took it to the Carmax service and the guys laughed at me. “We don’t touch a Mercedes. It needs to go to the dealer”. Took it to the dealer and they told me it had to be rebuilt because there weren’t any in the US and were back ordered from Germany. The cost would be $2800. Maxcare refused to pay because they said that A. The part needed replaced with a “like new” part (used) which Mercedes refused to do B. The Mercedes dealer’s labor rate was more than the industry average. Remember, Carmax TOLD me to take the car to the Mercedes Benz dealer! Never again!

I'm starting a new Auto Service Warranty program today that is Guaranteed to pay for at LEAST some of every repair, no loop holes. It's called a savings account. $99/month in MY OWN savings account has got to do me better than Car Shield.

Even if the customer did cancel the warranty, that would not relieve Car Max from having to pay for the claim she filed BEFORE she cancelled. Because the warranty was in effect at that time. The cancellation would only affect any claims filed AFTER she cancelled that were not related to the previous claim. In a similar vein, a car insurance company can cancel your policy if you file too many claims. But they can't refuse to pay for claims that occurred BEFORE they cancelled the policy. Also, if she prepaid for coverage for a certain duration, say 6 months, and the payment was NOT refundable, then she would be entitled to the benefit of the bargain and be able to file claims until the coverage expired. The warranty company can't have its cake (her money) and eat it too.

The one that I tried to sign up for years and years ago that I canceled right after I got the contract in the mail was $325 a month and if your car had something wrong with it you take it somewhere you pay for all the repairs and then you take The receipts and you send them into the warranty company and they decide how much of it they’re going to pay. 😳😳 once I read that I called that guy up and I told him where he could stick it and that he can keep that $325 but you’re not getting a penny more

I was supersized to see the term Blow used so much, if I trusted you and it turned out visually it was not blow then I would have my doubts . Compromised is much better term that does not pin you down. We all know a head gasket can be compromised and still look great. Y'all missed the Flathead days of Compromised head gaskets that looked as good as a new one : )

Took 6 weeks to get approval for head gasket job they told the customer the reason it was taking so long was from the shop not sending paperwork to them. Customer comes to my shop pissed off until I showed him we did send the paperwork 6 times. We waited on the phone more than once until they said they got the email. Finally they called but saying they aren’t covering it because the head gaskets failed from over heating and I said no the head gaskets failed causing it to over heat the lady said oh I’ll have to call u back which she did saying they are covering it and they only paid 1300 the job was over 3k. We spent a good 6-10 hours on the phone with them over many phone calls waiting on hold and calls getting dropped.

5 years ago I bought my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit with 80k in excellent condition and after 6 months I did give in to that extended warranty and paid $3800 for the VIP SUPERIOR W/ HYBRID OPTION Package which was supposed to be there BEST Premium package that covered absolutely "EVERYTHING" 🙄 . Having such a high end vehicle I knew it could be very expensive for repairs on this one. Well I was right. Litterly with 45 days the air ride compressor failed and it was over $2200 and oh boy was that a experience trying to get them to pay for that. They did reluctantly after an adjuster came out a week later and they argued the price down with the dealer $400 from $2600 originally for the repair. Well that paid for half my warranty already I was like whow. Then over the past 5 years between air conditioning systems and $1'300 then motor mounts $ 500. Brake Caliper $300 already at $3000 back out of $3800. Then Air ride Shock boot $750 R/R Then Air ride Shock boot $750 L/R Total $4500 minus $600 in $100 deductibles $100 x 6 = $3900 The warranty company actually paid out over $5500 after the 5 year warranty ended. I actually came out ahead. Needless to say they did not like me. They lost on the gamble with me. I had a bad thermostat and it was a $600 repair and they did not cover it because they said the gasket failed and it was not covered and I was told I did not have coverage on gaskets? What the Hell is that all about with a VIP HYBRID PREMIUM ALL COVERAGE WARRANTY 🤔 When you IF you get a WARRANTY read "EVERYTHING" Gaskets not covered 🤔 WHAT the Heck. Talk about Deceptive practices and stealing from the consumer. READ 👈 EVERYTHING. Do your homework and get a copy of the contract. I had lost mine and requested a copy and was told there was not one available? What's up with that. I could not even view it online Nothing no access to it. That's also BS. I Was just very lucky I came out on top. I also paid cash for my warranty to save the finance charges, I was fortunate enough at the time to be able to. Good Luck 👍

I got denied a claim on a company truck cause it had an extra tank in the bed of the truck that goes through a filter before it gets put in the truck and only on long distant trips. CarShield said that is not allowed per the contract. I instructed them I read the contract can you show me where it states that. They could not show me exactly where but articulated their verbiage to say what they want it to. The mechanics told them my pump was breaking up which put debris in my fuel system. They said it doesn’t matter cause I have an extra fuel tank in the back of the truck. There scammers. Don’t by CarShield.

As a professional tech, at a professional shop, we absolutely REFUSE to work with the warranty companies. We tell customers that up front. If a vehicle is towed in with a warranty company, we tell them tow it out or they handle the warranty company. They waste our time on the phone, they waste or time in the bay, we need to turn bays to make money in them. Cant keep a car in the bay waiting on an inspector for 3 days.

Is Geico the exception? In 1991 I purchased an extended warranty from Geico for $300. The dealer wanted $700 for the extended warranty. The alternator went up for $300. Geico covered it no problem. On another KZbin Channel, the mechanic said Geico has excellent customer service.

Call the FTC and the State Insurance regulators for failure to honor. Fines and criminal charges change minds real quick. One thing I did with my Porsche that needed $8000 in repairs was to directly post in the warranty company ads on KZbin telling prospective customers to avoid. In my case I followed every term to the letter, they still declined because they considered a listed covered part as a wearable item at 55,000 miles.

If you buy your car from CarMax, their Max Care warranty is pretty good if you buy their best option. If you buy your vehicle as a certified-used vehicle, the manufacturer's warranty is good. Other than that, don't buy one. Have the vehicle inspected before purchasing it and make sure it's a vehicle that has a good track record for reliability.

You are better off putting aside 120 bucks a month in an interest bearing account while you are under manufacturer warranty. In 36 months you will have $4320.00 after your og warranty expires. Thats enough to cover problems.

Hey y’all look into risk theory warranty. The best ever. They paid 16,000 in repairs with no deductible or cost to me other than purchasing the warranty. It was Insane what they covered and made the dealer do. Made the deal replace my transmission not just repair it. They covered it all for 3 yrs. They are awesome.

Cost $2500 but they paid it all no issues. Only certain dealer carry it. I am having a hard time finding one that has it now. But seriously they paid over $16,000 in repairs and I had no ded. Only had to pay a $200 ded if I took it to another dealer for repairs but I never had to go somewhere else. Southern motors Honda in savannah was the dealer. I don’t work for them or am I getting paid. Just thought I would share I found a warranty that actually works. Good luck yall it’s hard to find anything or a company that’s honest.

They also tell them they have to return to that dealer if within 25 miles for a warranty repair. There's so many slimy guys at the finance desk misrepresenting this stuff its hard to be sure who is covering these warranties.

Car Shield is not worth it at any price. Take that same money, deposit it into your bank account, and save it for a rainy day. Takes some discipline to lay off your savings, but you can do this.

I had a customer with a 5.3L Chevy Silverado that needed intake gaskets. Called the warranty company, got the approval and when the job was done I called for payment instructions and was told the company had gone out of business. Really!!, in the 1 day it took me to do the job and now they're out of business. Like Rosanne Rosanadana says, "its always something..."

just make the math, save those 100 bucks monthly in a savings account and have a credit card clear and by the time your car breaks you will have enough to fix it and for a major repair, your saved money and credit card will be your best peace of mind. Carshield will somehow screw you over.

I put 2,000 I into Car Shield plain ,and they tell me that car shield is is having financial problems right now.And the parts and labor is only 810.00 dollars. They turn me over to 3 different plan agents and nothing. And they think it's a joke. And the law should fine they.they need to find out who's in charge.But thier day is coming.

At some point, people have to pull their heads out of their asses. Whoever is calling you up, begging you to warranty your 15 year old clunker isn't trying to do you any favors. They'll be really nice until they take your money, but they aren't fixing anywhere near what you pay them. Their aim is to make money off you and you can't make money honoring repairs on dying cars.

worked in that business 40 years ago lasted not even 8 months big scam their is many ways of not paying here is one and its big damage due to an uncovered part or wont pay to disconnect tranny from engine if engine is damaged a portion of money for repairs is put into reserves for that month of that year so if a repair is needed later they will go back to that months reserve if no money left deny claim they will not pay out from another month to cover you repair

Just on the face of it, extended warranties are a ripoff. You are giving a party your money to hold on to only for them to decide if they will give it back to you at a later time or not. Just take that money and pay yourself by putting it in a savings account then you can access it anytime you want with no monkey business to go through.

Car sheild is a rip off. Better Business Bureau has thousands of complaints against them. They will do everything possible not to pay a claim.

these warranties are bad, but don't everyone here act like they're following factory maintenance and keeping the receipts. if you did that, you have a lot more ammo in court, which the warranty company sees as well, so they're less likely to try anything funny. it's dumb, but play by their rules if you're trying to succeed

When i read that you may have to pay for tear down to figure out the problem, i was like this is a scam! Dude that tried to sell me on the contract was such a scammer in the way he talked..he swore my car would blow in about 50 more miles since I got a 2012 Ford Mustang at 173000 miles...he said he is a Mustang mechanic and knows and I better get the coverage! What you all think?

Yeah, lets be transparent though... Pre-existing, meaning, it reaches a threshold of government mandated quality standards, means that the manufacturer has to take care of (even after original manufacture's warranty is expired, coming from experience on my 2012 TDI Passat that had turbo bearing failure far more than industry standards allow), not an aftermarket extended warranty company. Just my 2 cents as a consumer, but that's just one of the misnomer "facts" this podcast is wrong on.

The gubmint only regulates safety defects. If they extend a warranty on something like a turbo-bearing, it's to save face with the consumer. I'm not sure what "misnomer" you're referencing.

Looking for opinion. I have a 13' JX35 99k with the infamous CVT transmission. It's only had Tran oil changed at 58k & 95k so it's more than likely to fail soon. My question is it with it to get an endurance warranty for 36 monthsor 50k. Costs $3600 that can be paid over 24 months. It explicitly states that the transmission is covered. I usually do most of the wear and tear repairs myself so my 10k limit will not be encroached on with alternator or wheel bearing replacements. To me I don't see how I can be screwed, if tranny grenades itself I don't have to pony up 6-8k for repair. If it makes it for 3 years, awesome then I get ride of car then! Lastly, I only owe like 8k left on the car and payments are $300/month. So an extra 150 still keeps my monthlies for the car relatively low. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated!

What if the transmission goes out past the warranty period? Then you just wasted your money. Maintained CVTs tend to go past 150k miles. Towing and lack of maintenance is really what ruins them.

@5:30 The way you can cancel the warranty, even if it is rolled into the financing (especially), the insurance company has to have a documented reason for rolling-out, and you should ask for that evidence. You cannot be that ignorant as a consumer to deal with this. Yes, you should read that contract, and you "should know what you are talking about, and let them know that they are on the hook", but as bad as that sounds, most extended warranties are predators on such ignorant people.
