Street parking most of my life and coming out to new dings and scratches from ppl who can't parallel park was the main reason I never wanted to buy a "really nice" car. Now that I have my tiny 1 car garage I'm just happy to have a space to call my own 😁. The dream is atleast a 2 car garage with a lift.

As a guy who started on a sidewalk , and moved to a private parking spot , and now Have a Non-Private garage when it's always dry , Not so clean but dry and have a small shed with Parts and stuff , I'm a long way to go to A private garage with a lift. But I do love progress. ( Around 6 Years ago I started working on my own cars)

I do epoxy garage coatings. We only use 100% solids epoxy. It’s not industry standard because it’s harder to use, but the smelly epoxy is smelly because it uses solvents to make them stick better - these flash off as they cure and the resulting coating is thinner.

I feel so blessed. I live right off I-95 between DC & Baltimore and have a 2 car wide double deep garage attached to the house with a carport in front of it and a 40' by 80' garage out back. Both have a drain in them but the back has a much bigger drain. The back also has heated floors and a lift. The lighting is ok but I want to upgrade and I need to do the floors. Big problem with the lights is the ceiling is almost 25' and even my massive A-frame ladder isn't tall enough so I have to rent a scissor lift to change a bulb 😕

I bought several 6 packs of Barrina t5 LED light strips from amazon that can be connected together by different size cords and each one also has a switched cord available. Then I got 3 plug through outlets with a single remote so I have 3 zones of lighting on the remote and double sided taped the lights where i wanted them. I also keep some unattached so I can use them where I might need light working on things.

I have too many parts, so my shop is lined with a pallet rack, homemade shelves attached to the walls, including a tire rack, two workbenches, self-standing metal shelves, two modest tool box stacks, an engine run-in stand, a glass rack and a flammables cabinet. All full. All surrounding the 2 post lift, all jammed into a 20x30 space

'The appreciation of these things relies on people having first hand experience with them' THIS I frequent local car meets and last year I missed one where F40 showed up. I know there's one or two in the city, I know they are taken out for an invitation only concours event each year, but I've never seen them with my own eyes, let alone being driven on their own wheels. Most are tucked away somewhere, their values appreciating (or depreciating, who knows with the current bubble market) in some dark, climate-controlled storage facilities, with zero chance for a bystander to ever see them, hear them, smell them. So I'm not surprised people thank you for driving the Miura. Especially that every time you do that, you risk being burned alive :D

The weird thing about this: they live in an incredibly expensive area, even a small house is crazy money. They drive extremely expensive cars for work, and presumably a couple in Jason's collection are highly valuable. Yet so much discussion around a few hundred dollars plus/minus on the various parts that go in in a garage setup. It is incongruous.

Great topic and examples. Where's the link or forum for us to post pics & stories of garage solutions? Took us years to find something in-town that discreetly housed a 12' ceiling 3-bay (9' wide doors) that fits a couple of lifts. As you said, it's a huge difference being able to have all cars/tools in one place connected to the house vs. driving to a storage unit. Keep up the great work.

Jason, you can drive yourself crazy with all the options for LED lighting. It all depends on what you want to accomplish with your lighting setup. If you’re just wrenching, basic “tube” style or edge lit panels are often enough for most work spaces. “Wafer” or clip in style recessed lights are an easy way to get light into your space if you don’t have to worry about your ceiling being a fire break to your house. Given your garage didn’t have a ceiling before you put one in, this doesn’t sound like it would be an issue. If you’re feeling saucy and you feel like trying your hand at design and a bit of electrical work, there’s almost no limit to what you could accomplish with aluminum extrusion light channels/diffusers and the various strip LED products out there. There are also edge lit geometric panel with color control if you want a dramatic splash. Some of them you can connect to your phone via Bluetooth or WiFi and color shift to a programmed pattern or even to music. It all depends how far you want to go down that rabbit hole. Since it sounds like you also want to film in the space, you will want to use a reputable brand of LED lamp/strip. Some notes on color temperature and spectrum: - You are going to want stick with LEDs with a CRI (Color Rendition Index) of 90 or greater. Lower CRI lamps will produce light with a bit of a color shift. - For work spaces, 4000 Kelvin is a good balance between blue (>4000K) and yellow/amber (

We have flat panel, surface mount, edge-lit LED lights. Flicker free and switchable color temp (I prefer 4000K). Ours are 2x2 ft but they come in different sizes.

When I bought this house in 2001 - I told my realtor I wanted a garage with a house attached - 4 car garage secured, but SUPER low ceilings - I have to drop the Rivian to lowest ride height to get it in there or the shark fin antenna would hit the garage door. God I would love to lift the roof to accommodate a lift - its doable here but insanely expensive

Ikea sells these very cheap metal shelves, and they're amazing. The best part is the trays are flat on one side OR have small walls of you flip them upside down. So you can really play around with configurations. Did I mention they're cheap? Worth looking into.

I'm so jealous of anyone with a garage. I moved 200mi out of the city I grew up in so that I could have d reasonable hope of someday having a place to keep AND WORK ON my motorcycles. Finding a place with a garage where rent is less than 75% of income is hard enough, but a place where you're not expressly forbidden from servicing vehicles? Impossible where I was. Buy a place with a big Boomer down payment, or go lease a BMW like the rest of The Poors. Living in a place where you needed to make a $600,000 purchase in order to change the oil in your 1991 Civic hatch was driving me insane. My resolution for this year is garage, no roommates.
