Double Wishbone Suspension Explained: What is a double wishbone suspension? With car suspension animation in the video, the contents include
1) The basic design: double wishbone suspension is an independent suspension system. It includes two wishbone-shaped arms (also called double A-arms) that are located between the steering knuckle and the chassis. The upper and lower control arms have ball joints at both ends to enable movement in all directions. Vertical motion is controlled via the coil spring and shock absorber mounted on the wishbones.
2) The advantage: the double wishbone suspension provides the driver with a smooth driving experience. As a more complex design, the double wishbone allows for better control over camber and body roll.
3) Camber: this part introduces concept of positive and negative camber; equal and unequal-length control arms double wishbone suspension.
4) The disadvantage: a double wishbone suspension is more complex, and therefore it is more expensive to design, manufacture and maintain than other suspensions, such as the MacPherson strut suspension. In addition, due to the large number of parts, a double wishbone suspension system is heavier and requires more space (horizontally) than other suspension systems.
The double wishbone suspension can be used on the front and rear wheels, it is independent and above all it has almost perfect camber control. Nowadays the double wishbone suspension has been the first choice for many racing and sports cars.

Very nice vids, thank you. I could never get used to McPherson on newer hondas after driving eg's, ek's, dc2r's for years which all had a brilliant double wishbone, combined with relatively low weight those cars almost drove themselves. So I had to get cl9 and love it so far, dw up front and multilink at the back... So like previous comment I too vote for a multilink vid 😁.

I agree! I have a 1997 Civic with 354K miles on the original steering and suspension (except outer tie rod ends which just started to get loose) and it still rides and drives amazingly well with absolutely zero signs of trouble. That said, I'm thinking of rebuilding the suspension while OEM parts are still available because I know it's old and not going to last forever and new OEM parts likely won't be readily available in, say, 10 years when a rebuild may actually be needed. As bad as the roads are where I live, preventatively rebuilding the suspension after 27 years while I can still get parts is something I can live with.

My r8 has front and back double wishbone suspension and it rides nice but my gti Mac Pearson front struts and rear multiLink suspension rides All most as good maybe at the limit there may be a difference
