One of the things I'm noticing since your return, Darren, is that the lack of constant whining of the people: "omg stop talking for 45 minutes to tell mehow to do x" While those comments were often funny, I don't miss them. I don't care if you talk for an hour and half about vacuuming your trunk liner -- I enjoy your content and your commentary.

It’s a good thing u brought up the rotor rust. From experience if you are a bit OCD you have to take the wheel off for a perfect clean. If not the first time you hit the brakes all the rust will fly off and coat your wheels. Little specs of rust all over!

Would the acidic wheel cleaner even be safe on the powder coated brake capliper? I always thought it was painted and clear coated and drive an M2C myself (Same breaks). Just ordered a gallon of wheel brightener for my weekly cleaning. Can I use it safe or do I need to switch to something else?

we don t have simple green in the netherlands unless i ask simple green but we have a alternative.when i was 30 we had the old opel corsa cdx 1.4 had a garage what i try to do was a sponge and car soap and try to get in to the wheels.i did use wheel cleaner i never looked at acid or not acid.your a professional so you would know more than i do.i heard the chemical in a wheel cleaner in a long time could make a wheel damage the clear coat don t ask me where i read it or heard it.but if we can use a chemical which is less harsh but do the same wy not use that.but than i bought a cheap wheel cleaner.and how about put a wheel sealant or a sealant to have less brake dust.is what i try to do.

Darin, kind of of subject but have you ever used solution finish on tires?
@autofetishdetail5 жыл бұрын
I haven't. I am wondering why I haven't. I have used it on car interiors and it has saved the day on overly cheap and old plastic interiors when you clean them and now the material is so dried out, even a dressing wouldn't save the moment. Great idea. I will ask Chris West if he has heard of anyone doing that.

I actually found simple green to be intolerable to use. It smells awful and bothers the hell out of me. I've also read its not as safe as its claimed to be. I actually find Super Clean really tolerable as a chemically sensitive person, and its "biodegradable"
@autofetishdetail5 жыл бұрын
I think you need to read the label on Super Clean a little more closely. They play word games with their labeling. They use the same word games that the health/food/supplement companies do. And the smell/harsh fumes on Super Clean....burns my nose hairs and lung capillaries

Good video, unfortunately, unless they’ve changed the chemical makeup of Simple Green, we had to stop using it on our F-16 wheel bolts, because after every wheel tear down, we’d pre-soak the wheel bolts, just long enough to clean about a dozen at a time, maybe 5 minutes. After each bolt was cleaned, and hand dried with a shop towel, they were placed into a bucket, and a daily trip to the non destructive inspection laboratory (or X-Ray lab, for you civilians) and it was trashing out wheel bolts. No joke, spider webbed microscopic stress fractures, verified by X-Ray dye. And the easy rebut would be, “well, wash and spray it off, instantly.” Problem is, the chemical makeup is completely different than that of water, and it will penetrate down into the threads, and not sit on top, which is where corrosion and ultimately failure happens.
@autofetishdetail5 жыл бұрын
I am going to ask Simple Green about that. Thanks for the intel....

I've been testing Optimum Power Clean, which I believe is a citrus degreaser, for the most baked on brake dust. It takes off that heavy yellow coating like a dream at full strength, but I use it at 3 to 1 first because it can be harsh on a painted wheel, which may be already compromised by the brake dust itself. So far great stuff all around, just take care as it is corrosive according to the label. Great video, I'll try adding this to my arsenal!

I have been working as a professional detailer part-time for many years aside from my full-time job, which is the fire department. Luckily, the fire service is now taking the precautions to help prevent cancer and it's great to see the detailing industry doing the same.
