Drove this thing at the AMGA at Lime Rock, claustrophobic at first, felt like you're strapped into a fighter jet. Cockpit hugs you. The lower torque compared to my E55, 479 vs. 520 ft/lbs, makes it a friendlier car to drive fast. Eases into its speed in a deceptive way. While its clearly faster than the E55, it doesn't feel like it. That helps lesser drivers drive faster, not everyone likes to feel how fast they are actually going.

The SL is at a disadvantage with the top down! Top closed would give better weight distribution & more importantly less wind drag. Could be a different equation then?

A very different review than Carlos Lago just posted a few days ago. Is Basem just a more experienced driver? Not sure. But Basem didn't complain about the same "effort" that Carlos complained about in driving the car. Not saying Carlos is wrong or Basem is right, just interesting that we have two very different driving impressions, which isn't the first time that it's happened with any car.

SL is more of a comfortable GT car yes the SLS is one too but it's a lot stiffer. SL has more luxury but still has monstrous performance to go with it

The extra 700lb of mass in the SL65 should, in theory, help the car to hook up that monumental torque figure. Next time try a longer strip and see the results.

Hey guys, do your guy a favor and avoid the shots of him *trying* to look like he is driving the cars near the limit. I'm not trying to be smart with you, he is fairly thorough and a good enough writer, its just extremely obvious that he's not up to the task of casually working the limits of a high performance AMG. I refer you to this or the E63 video where this is evident in some very bad steering gestures and the corresponding exterior shot of the car doing a tiny side step. just sayin

Mercedes has long mastered the gull wing door. Other's have tried. Some owners have modded. Still nothing like a Mercedes.

The SLS won by a less than a maybe 2 seconds against the SL65 so I doubt that with the top up it would make that big of a difference
