This was probably my favorite anime of the year. The only thing I would point out is that it goes farther than most in making sure that almost every detail comes into play somehow later on, even if its several episodes later.

Up until the late 1800s lead was used in cosmetics and still used in paints till the mid 1900s.

Depends on country somewhat but yeah most countries have bans and heavy controls on lead based paints in domestic use. North America didn't ban it in homes until the 70's so some older homes still have it. White lead based cosmetics produced a perfect white and applied better than other options so it was popular, same with white lead based paints which can still be sold in small quantities for the purposes of artwork as it dries well and has a great colour it's still prized. Road markings also still use lead based paints.

I love aoi yuuki (maomao) her voice is perfect for this character. she's also the voice of Yuzu from A silent voice. i already saw that show 4 times and never get bored by it. can't wait for 2025 for the season 2.

Honestly, the only weird part about this show is how there's only ONE physician for all the concubines. You'd think that the emperor would be willing to hire a few more doctors to make sure his wives and children would be safe. On the other hand, maybe the problem is that the position is considered high risk because a physician would have access to all the royal heirs, so the emperor might have decided to promote someone who's 100% loyal and trustworthy even though they aren't the best at the job.

Over this last year, besides One Piece (always #1 as it's a continuous series with just short breaks) and That Time I Got reincarnated as a slime (still 9 episodes left this season), my two favorite new series I've watched have been Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and The Apothecary Diaries. You're likely several episodes in already, but guaranteed you already love Maomao. I assume your, "hell yeah! Maomao is a beast!" moment was what I dub the "slap heard 'round the world" of ep 4 xD Much love. You two are great and wish you the best for yourselves and the channel.

Honestly, I skipped on this anime until it finished airing. I hated how it was too overrated because i thought its a cliche historical romance drama but I was wrong. What made me watch this was probably when I saw the clip about Maomao's parents.

Funny enough this anime was actually super underrated because frieren was the anime most talked about while apothecary diaries was sweeped under the rug for a bit. When peopel finally started watching apothecary diaries they talked about it A LOT because it wasn’t talked about that much at the time. Then a lot of people watched it. But for a while it wasn’t talked about at all (or from my end, despite me reading the light novel and manga beforehand. I still saw no one talking about it a while back) Edit: for spelling
