This video proves that a good enough drummer can make even the most average band sound awesome, and make an awesome band sound perfect. That drummer is the whole reason I keep coming back and watching this performance. He sounds so good that it totally distracted me from the fact that there is an out of tune trombone in the trombone section.

Wow! What an amazing performance. Shoutout to Michael McNamara for whipping these kids into shape. The kid on bass did really well. A few flubbed notes here and there, and he did screw up his tempo a few times, but overall very accurate playing.

You are most likely hearing the flat 9 in the first chord and the minor 6 in the last chord. They are pretty ugly, but that's what's in the score. It was off putting to me too when we rehearsed it. The C chord sets up the tonality and the flat 9 is off-putting in a tonic chord context...usually it functions as a setup for tonic rather than tonic itself, but jazz harmony being the ambiguous language it sometimes is... If you're interested, the chords are C7b9 Db6 C7b9 and Bbm6 in the intro.

Michael McNamara i know that this comment is old, but m6 chords don't contain a minor sixth. they have a minor third and a major sixth, which is a very consonant sound. chords that do have a minor sixth interval are usually called by the enharmonic augmented fifth, making it a Bbm+ not a Bbm6

The whole band is awesome, but that drummer is something else. If you look closely at the kit @6.44, the crash cymbal stand gives serious consideration to falling over. Just like the movie :)

I disagree. Yes, he was absolutely amazing, honestly some of the best drumming for a high school I've ever seen, but the woodwinds sounded amazing aswell. The two bassists made no sense, but it still sounded great. All of it.
