Cant possiblly see why people would think moisture traps are a bad idea myb they just dont understand !! The moisture is there and they absorb some of it allways a good thing 👍

I've always used moisture traps and check or change them monthly as required , last winter there was a lot of moisture collected, more than normal, this led me to carry out an in depth inspection where I found the gas fire chimney seal to the roof had failed which I replaced pretty quickly before any serious damage occured. So not only do they work, they can also Indicate a water ingress issue when monitored.

100 % for moisture traps. We use our motorhome all year long . Many moons ago when we had a static caravan . Before moisture traps, we used cheap as chips table salt on plates bowls pots whatever. Still use it just pop lid on when travelling. .

I use moisture traps, I dot them around in cupboards and leave the doors open and by the bathroom etc, they’re great, and my caravan was nice and dry inside throughout the winter last year!

Hi Mark, we used moisture traps for 6 years every winter, in my static caravan, never had a damp problem, van was very dry no moldy curtains, definitely use them,even bowls of salt work ,haha 😊 thank Roy

Thx for reminder vid. Last Early December drained down 100 % I thought, taps up all that biz, returned sometime in January below zero C …( Sited van on board fresh water tank empty) taps frozen in upright position and blew the pump fuse, had to use the Mrs hair dryer to defrost the taps the pump and find a new fuse the next day. Top advice if sited… lagg your pipes, bubble wrap your internal tanks but remove from hot tank before use and make sure you got spare correct fuses and take a hair dryer!!

Hi Mark. As i mentioned recently i have put a moisture trap in our caravan for the first time. After 2 weeks i can already see some water in the reservoir. Its being serviced tomorrow so after that i will wash the outside and put our cover on. Will monitor the water level and keep an eye on the battery level. Will advise again re water level. Cheers.

The issue with moisture traps is that caravans and motorhomes are not airtight, god help us if they were. Traps will indeed draw in moisture from the air around them but it is immediately replaced from the air outside. I've nothing against using traps, they cost pennies and may make you feel better but they achieve absolutely nothing. Buy a cheap humidity monitor and you'll see for yourself.

Facts.. moisture is in the air, a caravan by its very nature is not an air tight box.. the easy way to ensure that the damp does not stay inside the caravan and condense is by providing ventilation,. Moisture traps do kinda work but in a limited way, keeping a window 'ajar' front / back and top allow the caravan to breath

Caravans aren't sealed units, so all a moisture trap does is pull air and moisture in from outside.

@@thecaravanplace thanks for the tips,I noticed little dry ladybirds in my van today when i was bleeding the alde heating as my towel rail wasn’t getting hot. I solved the air lock and have a red hot towel rad but noticed the poor little things thought it was spring and started stretching their wings😀. Have you done an Alde bleed vid yet Mark?Thanks

We bought a brand new caravan on 1st November this year, we haven’t used it yet and it’s in storage (outside on tarmac), but we put a moisture trap in there and after just one week I was shocked to see how much water had been collected!!! Definitely a no brainer.

What do we do with the battery? Caravan has a solar panel on the room but no idea if this will trickle charge the battery when the mastwr switch for caravan electrics is off. Help please!

I would take it off every month and give it a proper charge, it won't get much from the solar panel, it should be direct to the battery so doesn't matter about the master switch. If you have a volt meter you can test the battery cables to see if its working on a sunny day. 👍

Im thinking of a caravan this year, its just me n the wife n 2 small dogs using it, but still waiting some luxury. Not sure what caravan yet, but i find your knowledge and information very useful to new would be caravaners! What i am finding difficult to grasp is, do i buy a car first then a caravan,or choose the caravan,and then the car ? Ive an Astra tourer, love it,but shes only very light and the caravans we like need a heavy car. Would be nice to see what cars suit different caravans. Love the vids, keep it up 👍

If you go with a tow car that can tow 1600kg it will tow 90% of single axles. Not many 2 berths are over 1450kg so you could get away with upto that, but if you want to update later 1600kg gives a bit more freedom. What tow car is a good source of information

If you don't use the gas very often, the gas valves tend to stick, so it's a good time to run everything on gas and work all the valves and burners. This will then hopefully keep all the appliances on gas in good working order for next year. 👍
