updated and modified cricri size plane, 100% carbon fiber with 2 electric motors , 80kg empty weight .
we used electric motors for this prototype because they are simple ,reliable and gives us enough range for checkride .

Wow I had the privilege of flying the most unique Cri Cri kits ever built. My friend built one of the original Chris Heinz kits produced by Zeniar In Canada with two 28 Hp Rotax engines. I was one of only four people to ever fly the aircraft. The fourth crashed the aircraft and destroyed it on the first flight after purchasing the aircraft and shipping it to the Netherlands. Your project looks fantastic and I wish you all the best with it. Looking forward to updates.

I estimate 18 -20 lb. per square foot of wing loading for this plane. A light Piper or Cessna has between 10 to 14 lbs. per square foot. And 100 plus horse power. An ultralight has about 4 lbs. per square foot. And 28 to 40 horse power. This will make a nice RC model though. That would still be 7 plus lbs. per square foot of wing loading.

More wingloading is not always a bad thing. It will have a fast cruise. And with the slotted flaps to/ldg shouldn't be that scary.

And thats it. Never flew. Actually, I'm not surprised. Many errors were made in the design and building. One obvious example: 0:33 bonding wing spar and ribs in the lower shell. Thats not how you do it. You start bonding stuff into the upper shell, so you can actually see what you bonded. Upper shell = low pressure area in flight, might be ripped off of the structure in flight if not properly bonded. Lowr shell = high pressure area, will be pressed towards the structure in flight, thus will not separate even if poorly bonded.

I have been following the Cri Cri and always wished someone would build a carbon fiber version. That was until I realized that it would probably end up a good bit heavier. I see you posted 80kg but you have two light weight electric motors. As for the aircraft itself, I think you missed the mark. First that paint job will not attract any want to be pilot over 15 years old. Neon Green!? The canopy with those big black lines in the way of seeing other aircraft tell me your not a pilot or else you would not have put them in. That nose wheel is going to add a good bit of drag besides being ugly. I saw that you want to sell this as kits to people and that's great. But as an aircraft designer and builder of several aircraft I would recommend you clean up the items I mentioned above and then make another video and take this one with the bad music down. One thing I did like a lot was how sleek you made the beginning part of the vertical stabilizer. That looked cool.
@OverlandOne
@OverlandOne 5 жыл бұрын
Very nice updated Cri-Cri. I just wish you used gas engines though. You pay a great weight penalty and loose range with electric. But, no matter, be safe and I look forward to seeing this fly. Now that you have the molds, you might think about selling partial kits or something maybe.

The original Cri Cri has the same sort of tiny wings and is fine. It's fast cos of the small wing. No less safe than other fast planes (all deadly). lol Some small wing planes have larger wings as well for slow flight and gliding and small wings for extra speed and range.

Jake Schnur Sir I understand the problem very well. You can have a front opening canopy by having a suitable hinge in the front, which during an emergency will release and allow the canopy to get blown away, so that the pilot has room to safely eject.Safety should always be given priority.The front hinge may be so designed.

As a CriCri owner I would be interested in your motors, battery and controller system for possible retrofit. The noise, vibration and unreliability of the JPX's has killed my interest in flying it now that I have a Silent 2 Electro motorglider. The empty weight of your CF version is only slightly less than mine. I would consider mounting the battery externally to the belly at the CG with a jettison capability in case of fire. What endurance do you expect to achieve? I'm looking forward to your flight reports.

Looks interesting. I have flown the F-PYVQ cricri mc15. once of most fun airplanes every flown (out of 76 types). JPX where not the best engines, but I always got back with one engine. Electric solves this engine issue. But why not using one engine infront? Also why engine wing mounted? Makes the wings heavier to hold during mounting. CriCiri original wing only 7kg Piece. Anyway good luck with this project. Bob

The original cri-cri has twin engines up front, but mounted on a v-structure so thrust is centered (mostly?) on the aircraft longitudinal axis. That seems good for yaw control on an engine failure. But perhaps electrics are reliable enough that engine failure is much less likely? Anyway, best of luck -- minimal weight is the future! What's the max gross weight? Weight of batteries? Weight of engines?

small aircraft should be have a better geometry, i don't say to build an elliptical wing but neither a rectangle wing the difference is an increase of the efficiency of the wing if was like the p51 mustang for example and not particular difficult to build... the engine should be collocate under the wing not up... the important thing is the distribution of pressure like the ekranoplane where the air was accelarate under the wing to permit them to push airplane up... in complex you do a good job but is possible to make a better design to have an incredible efficiency and long range of the veichle.
