I bought those exact wheels from FARSPORTS. Custom built with DT Swiss hubs and brass spoke nipples. Have used them in three gravel races and training. Have over 4,000 miles on them since March, and they are absolutely the best set of wheels I’ve ever had. My friend recommended FARSPORTS wheels, to be honest I was extreme skeptical. I’m a believer now, and bought a second pair built exactly the same.

Why brass spoke nipples?

Congrats on those wheels! Is it 30mm external at the rim edge or does it curve out slightly to be even wider like some newer rim profiles?

I bought a road disc wheel set from farsports about 3 years ago and love them. Paid about $650 USD. Still running strong. Excellent shipping and communication too. I would not hesitate to buy another set from them.

How’d you get em that low? Right now they’re saying $834 with the 36/32 asymmetric hooked rims. Do I even need asymmetric? Probably not.

Unfavorably the grease does not stay long to silence the ratchet. DT Swiss grease is based on molykotte tp-42 and should be better than marine grease. Greetings to the other side of the world.😀

This has always been one of my go to options, I would not discount any of the standard measurements and tests because these are gravel, I am sure some people would use them for road racing... I like the fact that they are in a "no hole" design, very wide, and there is a hookless option. Do you know if the waivy option gives any benefits or is it just the design?.. PS I would get a DT Swiss 350 rather than Bitex though, just better value. And the reason why there is a no hidden nipple option is because no one ever does a hidden nipple in a no hole design.
@stevenleffanue Жыл бұрын
I'm not aware of any aero testing of the copied wavy design rims however Zipp do claim there are benefits to their rim. Can only have hidden nipple design with non-adjustable spokes like "Lightweight" brand wheels.

@@stevenleffanue Oh yes, true about Lightweight brand, thanks. I never considered them though - too many compromises otherwise.

@@Hard_Work_Is_Rewarding I bought these wheels in 40mm deep with DTSwiss 350 for crit racing! And they are awesome. GP28 tire is flush with the rim... so much grip for corners or wet. We did a group buy and my buddy got the 50mm deep DTswiss 350 but with 28 rear spoke, cause he is a 1500-1600W sprinter and he wanted a super stiff rear wheel. My 24 spoke rear feels plenty stiff for my 1200-1300w sprint. We both love our wheels.

This answers the question about which wheel might be ideal for a Yoleo G21! Is there going to be a 'part 2' of the G21 build (or just ref the R12 build series)?

Yes, I have all the build clips. Have tried 2 sets of carbon wheels on it now and about to change the brake calipers to Juin tech...video coming.

Decisions. Decisions. I was taken by the Bitex hub review and on going to the webpage saw an OZcycle Tested Gravel Wheels model. Congratulations! I'm looking for wheels for a G21. Would the ceramic bearings on the Bitex be a reasonable addition? On the OZcycle are the Sapim cx-super spokes a good choice? And what are they? Are any of the spoke options for either model carbon fiber. Ministrivia- would the brass nipple have much benefit over the alloy? Would you recommend one model over the other (Bitex vs. OZcycle)?
@stevenleffanue Жыл бұрын
I can't really see any advantage of ceramic bearings in off-road hubs other than the balls will not corrode. Sapim cx-ray spokes are reliable spokes for road and sports off-road , not for heavy duty requirements. If you are not worried about weight go brass nipples , alloy for lighter riding.

Your psi for your rear wheel should not be more than 38psi max and front 36psi max. It will help with the bumpy feelof gravel.

Hi - any thought about using this wheel set as an all-around set for both gravel and road? When I look at the specs between these and the road wheels from farsports, other than the wider rim they seem quite comparable. I would think for road I could mount a 30 MM tire no problem?

I thought Bitex 312 is traditional pawl design….how does this compare to DT350?
@stevenleffanue Жыл бұрын
Some hub manufacturers change to star ratchet clutch without changing the model name/number. Even their websites may not have been updated showing the change. DT350 hubs have been around for a long time now and are a proven design.
J Bend is superior (in my opinion). You can have wide flanges with wider spacing, better bracing angles etc.. But.. depending hub to hub in regards to design. Once I built a wheel with a hub with wide flanges, due to center lock disc design, they were close to symmetrical, with 3mm offset rim, the l/r spoke tension balance was best I ever seen on non-track wheel
@stevenleffanue Жыл бұрын
I do agree with you but unfortunately wheels are slowly going straight pull , just like rim brakes have been faded out of use.

How do they compare to Yoeleo wheelset?
@stevenleffanue Жыл бұрын
Yoeleo are nice wheels but now they are expensive ($2,000) , slightly heavier than Farsport and have a lower rider weight limit than Farsport. That's what makes Farsport great value.

Higher end hubs such as Campagnolo, Chris King , Industry nine , etc tend to be louder. You can make a clutch louder by removing the grease and using oil as the lube.
