Great job, I've used the same kit and achieved great results, I had to buy extra cups, brushes unless you want clean ones in the kit, foam brushes from Amazon including mixing sticks and cups cheaper option. Keep up the good work 👍

The resin and hardener is generally measured by volume, not weight.

I am using EasyComposite’s products, which are designed to be measured by weight at the recommended ratio. Other manufacturers might have other specifications, but this is what they recommend

Some company makes a UV resistant resin ( right?) which would be good for a final coat ( no? ) Others say automotive clear-coat for final finish. Personally I like the idea of a polished resin final coat. Can anyone reading this provide a list of supplies needed and where to find everything state-side, such as the light carbon cloth? I know where to buy sandpaper (!) Would West System resin work for this? I have a hood and a trunk to do, so the kits from England are too small, and shipping is a cost prohibitive no - go.

This specific resin provided by Easy Composites is UV resistant and specifically designed for this application. I wouldn’t know where to look in the US, maybe Fiberglast? Keep in mind you can order from Easy Composites and get it delivered to you in the US. Best bang for the buck imo

how come when my resin cures its kinda cloudy. i'm using laminating resin
@SwissTuned4 жыл бұрын
It could be a mixing problem, maybe you introduce too much air when mixing. Otherwise, since I am no expert in resin, I recommend you ask the company whose products you're using, I'm sure they'll have an way to fix this :)

Would you be interested in doing a few parts for my car if I sent them to you and paid you?

Mix ratio, it is a big deal to get it right, has to be with in 0.5 % accurate

Looks so good until UV destroy is the clear looking, You need to apply epoxy clear coat that has UV protection, best way to make carbon fiber parts is infusion or use pre-preg material, also make a mold so make the actual part instead of just wrapping it!

Hey man, I don’t want to be rude but this is a video about carbon skinning. Of course there are better ways to create carbon fiber parts, but as I say in the video this is only to make them look good. Many people can’t afford better processes or just don’t want to deal with the added complexity, so this is an easy and cheap solution to make carbon parts where weight is not an issue. As for UV protection, the resin used here and provided by EasyComposites is specifically made for this, it has all the protection needed and will yield amazing results over a long period of time.

Swiss Tuned I’m an engineering tech in the aerospace industry and as far as I know they haven’t invent an epoxy resin that will not get discolored by the UV,

@@Cruz0604 You could be the president of the United States, fact is the resin is UV resistant according to EasyComposite. If you have any doubts you might want to give them a call, in the mean time here is the description of this particular resin straight out of their website: "XCR will cure to a hard, durable, UV resistant finish which can be flatted and polished to a high gloss or over-painted with a suitable clear coat/lacquer. The resin offers excellent cured mechanical properties making it suitable for use laminating or finishing sports/recreational equipment."

Did you even watch the video or just go straight to the comments so you could tell someone what they should do? It’s about carbon skinning not making carbon fiber parts. Why don’t you tell him, hey man you did a great job instead of telling him what he should have done.

'best way to make carbon fiber parts is infusion' Its good, but not necessarily best
