Good stuff! I actually picked up a used UP practice set on a forum. It plays but I've had an incredibly hard time getting it set up to actually play anywhere near well and in tune. Which made me drop off, havent practiced in months now. I've been thinking of getting a Carbony or Daye chanter to hook up with my bag and bellows. Because I'm pretty sure my bag and bellows are actually decent. Its a leather hamon bag and bellows made by a maker but I think they are in the 2-300$ price range, and seem nice. I've heard Daye chanter reeds are really climate friendly and are likely to be consistent. The Carbony chanter coming fully reeded and setup in good tuning for you is really promising as well. I just want somethign that I know is setup and works well. Its already really hard to get into the instrument. So the last thing I need is to be wondering what part is my bad playing and what part is my chanter not wanting to play a specific note, or having garbage tuning. I tried to move the reed, move the bridle, rush, etc. But I just cant get it set up right. Somethings always wrong. If anyone reading this wants to get into UP my advice. Dont go used lol. Used instruments are a great way to save money. But only buy used when you know what ur doing. Getting something good set up by the maker for you, with possible support from the maker, will be worth it even if you have to pay more.

A few months ago I ordered some David Daye Uilleann pipes but they’re not coming for a year so whenever I see reviews for other other pipes it makes me that much more eager to get mine. This one sounds great

Oh really? I was thinking of buying one of david daye pipes but makes me think of choosing different brand.
@jimobrien843 жыл бұрын
@@bagpiper93 yea it’s a long wait list. When I ordered them I didn’t know about Carbony making Uilleann pipes but I looked into a couple other makers like Fred Morrison and Patrick Skye and they had at least 6 months wait as well. I went with Daye because they have a solid reputation and the price is hard to beat

One year is a very good time frame. My pipes took 5 years. Ive heard David dayes makes very good quality pipes.

@@jimobrien84 Hey man - Patrick Skye actually died last year or the year before. So wait time probably longer than that. - I have a David Daye set - the positives are the reed is really good and the chanter is remarkable. The drones sound fantastic and the bellows are brilliant. The bag itself was a little leaky, but he suggested using a special liquid inside to essentially plug the holes. Seemed to work! I found David hard to get in contact with over email but good by phone if you get the right time. Is David going well? His website hasn’t been updated for years!
@jimobrien842 жыл бұрын
@@musomaster9027 wow I didn’t know Patrick had died. I was going off the wait time listed on his website. That’s a great description of David’s communication though, because he did not respond to the email I sent when I initially reached out to him but I didn’t have any problem getting him on the phone. He seems to be getting on well

Matt, as Always another Great Video. Thank you for mainly sharing Yourself with us. One of the reasons I have chosen you as a Teacher is because of your True Self awareness and Humbleness expressed in your "disclaimer". You exhibit No egotism nor arigance but Are truly a Loving Soul who Loves the Bagpipes, and Uilleann Pipes. I got a set of Uilleann Pipes last year with No Keys and practice on them to the best of my ability. When ever I'm feeling down on myself for not being "Perfect" on the Uilleann's I remind myself that my dog Scamp loves listening to me play and that's what counts. I think we'll always run into someone in this lifetime who wants to try and shame us to make themselves feel better but there are More people who appreciate You and what you Bring to Life. Thank You Teacher. Pipe On.👍

I bought a cocobolo practice set from hakam din. It's beautiful and even smells great. I don't know how to get the bellows down yet and I almost caused my arm to go numb. For right now, I am practicing using the changer and an adapter to play it apart from the bag and bellows with good at thetic reed. But I wonder if there is a tip or trick to mastering the bellows as I hope to as time progresses

I’m looking into getting into piping. As someone who played brass instruments my whole life should lung strength impact what I get? Thank you and have a fantastic day!
@MattWillisBagpiper3 жыл бұрын
If you're looking into learning the uilleann pipes, lung strength won't be an issue as they are bellows driven. As for highland pipes, your brass experience will make learning much easier, but there's no need for special instrument (be it practice chanter or full pipes), as you can get different strength reeds to suit your blowing strength. Hope that helps!

Vignoles pipes are great.Micheal vignoles learned pipe making from Eugene lamb in county clare.Remember reeds are temperamental. Best reeds are made in the climate you currently live in .I ve made reeds that work very well in Alaska but nowhere else.i ve made reeds that play well in Georgia in high humidity. David daye reeds work well in micheal vignoles chapters if that's any help to you

In terms of pressure, they are similar to a Scottish smallpipe. In terms of fingering technique, they are equally difficult to the highland pipes, but all of the technique and fingering is different. Totally different animal in that regard.
