0:02 Welcome back to Volcano Manor. Tanith patiently waits for Tarnished to finish their little side quest. 0:11 Once you finish all of the assassinations of nice Tarnished you get send right into the boss area where you will face the next demigod. You are basically rewarded by being sent to be devoured. If you ask me do NOT kill Rykard before doing all of the quests there. You will miss out on some things. 0:15 The area is small and you can also get here through teleport in the manor itself. 0:17 What Carbot wisely moves passed is a very important part of this bossfight. 0:20 This is your boss here. God Devouring Snake. It is rather ominous to see this wriggling body in the middle of this large arena surrounded by lava and with cages with bodies all around. It sets the tone VERY well. As for the lore. This is the Snake that devoured Rykard, the Demigod ruling over Mount Gelmir. It is also probably one of the oldest and most powerful beings in Lands Between as it's lore implies that it could probably eat the whole world if given enough time. 0:23 Carbot again displaying his max Wisdom Build. 0:26 The snake is perpetually surrounded by this damn lava which makes it annoying to get to. 0:31 One of serpents animations is it swallowing you and if the health gets brought to zero it literally swallows you whole. 0:37 Okay let's stop with Wisdom jokes for now. USE THIS WEAPON! It's literally the point of it's existence. It's lore is that it was used to hunt the immortal serpent. This serpent. 0:41 It's EXTREMELY effective against this boss. In fact it's piss easy with it, especially if you DO get up close to this boss through the lava because it can't hit you when you are that close. But be aware that it can put up a fight if you are not careful, but this boss fight is mostly a spectacle. At least it's not as insultingly easy as Yhorm from DS3. 0:47 And here is the REAL boss fight. Rykard. Lord of Blasphemy with his Blasphemous Blade that he pulls out of Serpents mouth that is made out of souls and bodies of poor sods already devoured by the serpent. And it's one of the best weapons for Faith/Melee builds. Also... LORE TIME!!!! Lord Rykard lord of Blasphemy is the son of Rennala and Radagon. Known in life for his middle child syndrome. His brother is the greatest general and one of if not THE most powerful Demigod and Ranni was chosen as a potential successor to Queen Marika herself as a God. Rykard clearly looks not so favorably in comparison. But he did score a very nice wife in Tanith... And was involved in several questionable things. Like conspiring with Ranni who in turn gave him an item called Blasphemouos Claw that would protect Rykard from wrath of Marika's own shadow (think best boy Blaidd, but for Marika) Maliketh the Black Blade. What was the deal? We don't know. But my personal theory is that Rykard in fact was the person that was the face of assassination of Godwyn the Golden. Demigod killed by Ranni through Black Knives in order to escape the control of Greater Will and Marika herself. This in turn started the chain of events that lead to the Shattering. I think Rykard being the public face of this assassination works well because of three things. First being that Ranni herself would not be one of the suspects then and everyone would assume she died as well. Second being that this would be logical start of Rykard's Blasphemy, him going against the Erd Tree and order of the world. And Third being rage that Morgott has towards Rykard. Morgott with every other demigod never truly hated them, but one can REALLY tell he despised Rykard and the destroyed armies of Leyndell at Mount Gelmir prove it. Morgott really wanted to murder him and this may be the reason. Rykard being in Morgott's eyes not only a Blasphemous fiend, but a man who killed his brother. But that is speculation on my part. What is not speculation is that Rykard proceeded during the Shattering to do one logical thing to do. He let his pet snake eat him and in turn Rykard became part of it as he was an immortal Demigod. And so Rykard now is this nightmarish amalgamation straight from Berserk. A person that went so far in their blasphemy that they turned into a true monster, willing to devour everyone and everything. All for this idea of freeing himself from the Erd Tree and Greater Will. Also his voice actor is hilarious. 0:50 Beating him is not a very simple thing. 0:53 TOGETHAAA. This is the line he says whenever he kills you and it always makes me laugh. This voice is a marvel. 0:57 Also Yeah. He is not as slow as you would think. And you have to repeat the first phase (the Serpent one) if you die. 1:03 This is his special attack. He summons souls of the damned and starts throwing them at you while preparing his gargantuan, spirit bomb sword strike of death and misery. If you ask me. Run in circles. It helps. Run around the arena and the skulls will disappear before they hit you, but be aware of incoming spirit slash. Also I think you can interrupt Rykard's power attack if you hit him enough with Serpent Hunter which also is prone to stunning him which is yet another reason to use it besides this fight being made just to use it and this weapon being made just to kill him. Seriously. Just this weapon. Also the syndrome of not being able to hit you if you are too close is even more true in this phase. Much like with Radahn. Must be a family thing. They are all awkward if you are too close. 1:07 Carbot did not have that wisdom though. 1:13 This right here though is the real REAL boss here. Fucking camera will be your doom in this fight. 1:19 Honestly why would you skip his intro cutscene? You get this amazing dialogue more than once. 1:23 Yeah, just avoid his tiny legs and you'll be golden. 1:25 Okay, if you summon for this fight... I'll return your calls. Definitely. 1:30 Can't blame the guy. This is too sad. 1:34 Yup. Pretty much Serpent Hunter experience. At least it's a cool weapon. Also another tip. Before doing this fight quickly go back to your smith and upgrade this weapon. It will save you some headaches. 1:40 Tanith shows up here after you rest to eat Rykard because insanity of this Serpent is infectious. It's rather creepy. 1:42 And yeah. Rykard technically doesn't die. He is still somewhat alive through this snake because it's legitimately immortal apparently and Rykard being a part of it is also immortal in some capacity. 1:46 Probably a good idea if you don't want this story to repeat itself in the future. 1:48 And a bad idea if you don't want to know the reason for why Tanith has a bodyguard. Good luck. This is legitimately harder fight than Rykard. BTW outside of this fight Serpent Hunter is trash. Much like Storm Ruler in Demon Souls and DS3 outside of their respective fights. The fight itself looks cool though. Probably the best cinematic fight in From's history because while it is easy it is not insulting like Yhorm and is not as frustrating as aiming at the damn flying Stingrays that shoot bone arrows at you. TLDR. The title is accurate.

Amazing and actually really helpful fight and lore summary! However, if you wanna go full unga-bunga (strength/endurance, no weapon art use) Serpent Hunter is REALLY strong as a normal weap. That’s not a normal casual experience though. :D

@@gmualum08 ...Was he underleveled or just an idiot? Admittedly i might have been overleveled a bit for Rykard and I did have my mimic summoned and also using the serpent hunter, so we melted him extremely quickly. That said, even without the mimic I doubt I'd have died to Rykard.

I took it in the first run, equiped it and realized I couldnt use it with my stats so I but it bag into my bag and got bag out my Executioner's Greataxe

@@svejobaron It's a special weapon. It has no stat requirements. If they want the player to use a specific weapon that they've left in the boss room, then there isn't going to be a minimum requirement set to use it.
