Carbquik claims to be a versatile all purpose baking mix and says it is low carb and can be used for all kinds of baking needs.
I decided to test the pancake recipe from the box and see if the claims proved true.
The box recipe calls for 1 stick of melted butter but I found it to be too much fat and the pancakes came out flat and greasy.
This called for a hack. I altered the box recipe by reducing the butter to 2 T (salted) and added 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract. There is one measurement from the recipe that can be tricky. It calls for 1 3/8 cup of water. 3/8 is equivalent to 1/4 cup + 2 T. Only add as much of the water as you need to make a batter that isn’t too thin. You want to be able to pour it onto the griddle but it shouldn’t be like cake batter.
The recipe makes 10 4 1/2” pancakes and there are 1.2 carbs each. I measured 1/4 cup batter on the griddle for each pancake. Cook for 3 to 3 1/2 mins on the first side and 1-2 minutes on the other.
This hack worked perfectly! The pancakes turned out light and fluffy. Add some homemade maple syrup and bacon and breakfast is ready!
Butter Maple Syrup
2 T salted butter
1/2 T maple extract
1/4 cup allulose syrup
Cook in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. Syrup will boil quickly.
Let it cool for a few minutes then stir gently. Be careful! It can still bubble up if it isn’t cool enough before you stir it.

I apologize but I'll give you my recipe for pancakes that are very low carb and delicious. Divide two eggs. Whip the whites to hard peaks. In a bowl have the egg yokes, add a quarter cup carbquick. Add a couple of tbl of melted butter, pinch of salt, teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir and then add enough whipping cream to get to a thick batter. If it's too thin the pancakes will be thin so you want it thick. Fold in the egg whites. Now cook on the griddle or make waffles. The taste is very similar to french toast. I actually like them better than regular pancakes. I realize they are a bit more work than the package recipe but they are so much better. If you want you can make a big batch and use it for waffles and then freeze them to use as you need. I would suggest as you take them off the griddle you top each one with a good pat of butter and then stack them on a plate and add a zero carb syrup. No need to let them rest as they're not hard to start with.

When using bisquick, to increase protein, we whisk 3 eggs instead of 1 then mix in. Buttermilk always. Turns out great. So will try this with my carbquick

I make waffles with the recipe on carb quick box using egg replacer instead of whole egg and nut milk instead of dairy. Have this most mornings, love it.

Great review which I agree with 100%. I quit keto because all the recipes were EXCESSIVELY heavy on eggs and fats This is a good example with butter, cream, soy and too much wheat adding to the gluten factor. All that fat cannot be good for your heart. Thanks for the thorough, honest review.

Actually the fat is not a problem. The Canola Oil is more of a problem! You are misinformed on that. I suggest you tune in to Dr. Ken Berry and his 1,000+ videos on keto, carnivore, fat, fasting, bad oils, supplements, medical misinformation (lies), big food, big pharma, etc. All of our choices have consequences. My life changed when I stopped living to eat and now eat to live instead. Eating is essential but I choose to get healthy, not live by palet alone.

@@bobholst874 I beg to differ with you about the extremely high fat content with the keto diet. Ask ANY cardiologist what they think about high fat diets like keto related to heart disease. Healthy fats are seldom used in keto products.

@@BethyKable Probably like you say in "KETO PRODUCTS" I do not give in to these convenient seemingly processed foods! I do not use them. I am consuming meast and poultry and dairy products that are raised by our local farms. Also, I am concerned about Big Agriculture! They depleat soil, rotate crops too infrequently. So we raise garden veggies, which gives us ultimate control. You are deluding yourself if you think there are extensive studies on Keto yet. There is important ongoing studies. There is, in case you have not seen it yet a high amount of collusion between big food, big pharma and big medicine! Check out Dr. Ken Berry's videos on "Is Your Doctor Lying To You?" And by the way, the fats you talk about are not from whole and natural foods, it is from processed foods and Hydrogenated Seed Oils, which are poison to begin with! I will continue with my Dr. doing my blood work every 60-90 days while striving to live on cleaner foods. You can believe what you choose, but my blood work trumps your opinion...I hope you understand.

Try sieve one cup carbquick mix a time to remove the flaky lumpy shortening stuff. Replace it with extra butter. You will thank yourself later.

What baking soda? Do you mean baking powder? Wish you would have shown the maple syrup. Also, you should put links to the products you use like the skillet.

When baking with carbquik there is no need to let food cool to set up. Carbulose flour does not act like the almond and coconut flours. It acts like regular flour. I use carbulose flour to do my baking. You use it just flour.

I wonder if their butter 🧈 comes in half cup sticks …which would be half of a full length stick of butter …my local butter comes in half cup sticks so I would be adding 1 stick of half cup butter

Standard butter in the US come in half cup sticks which is equal to 8 tablespoons. By standard I mean like Land O Lakes brand, etc. so if you are using Kerry Gold that comes in a brick the best way to measure would be by tablespoons or check the packaging for gram weight. Hope this helps.

I use it a lot but don't care for most of the recipes on the box. Very versatile, lots of great recipes online. There is a bitter taste to it that can be overcome with spices added.

I have never used butter in my carbquik pancakes. I use nothing but keto friendly oil and certainly not a cup

This would be a definite no for me. The fact that it has Canola Oil which is highly inflammatory, it causes gut issues as well. The reason I am living keto is to get rid of inflammatory foods, toxins and poisons. Canola, a hydrogenated seed oil just doesn't fit for me.

You may have a specific intolerance for those oils, but scientifically speaking, there's nothing to back up the claims that it's inflammatory in general. In fact, canola oil is better for the body than butter, which keto folks add to their food and drinks like it's a food group. Canola has Omega 3s and reduces LDL cholesterol. Avoid it if it negatively affects YOUR body, as anyone may react to anything (I can't eat onions), but please don't make sweeping statements that are provably false for the general population. It's the same panic for GMOs and MSG. There's absolutely no science to back any of that up. A bunch of talking heads with no degrees, relevant education, or sense, have flooded the internet with misinformation, so I welcome everyone to go to the actual scientific sources (Harvard is pretty reliable and they have great articles readily available).
