Good honest explanation as always... I chose the Sherco SE300 and couldn't be happier. Watching your riding clips it truly looked like you and the Sherco had a good blend, Your stability and confidence in hard climbs looked well planted and controlled. I'm a fan of fuel injection but getting on my Sherco I have rekindled my love for a carb. Keep up the great videos!

Just bought a 21 Husq. TX 300, I came very close to the Sherco. At 140lbs, 5' 8" ergonomics put the Sherco too tall, and limited parts access threatens my mental and emotional well being. IRC Tire Guy had the BEST input on my research. I am totally satisfied with my machine. Thank Mr. Larson, your accurate unbias opinion is the standard I seek. Commendable.

@@IRCTireUSAMoto As you said, Sherco is gaining traction in the US. Parts supply will improve. Here in Australia, we are Sherco's biggest market outside France and parts supply is better than most Japanese bikes. Multiple dealers in each state, premium dealers with their own stock holdings plus the importer's warehouse. That and the aftermarket is diving in with accessories. A bright future indeed 👍

@@rwilko9525 You're in luck, Buzz's Bikes and Bits is in Aubrey 👍 Sherco Australia offers great support for owners here in Australia and our country get special treatment from the team in France as we are their biggest market outside France 👍 I certainly think you will be happy out of box, just jet it to suit your area and roll it on. In regards to TPI, I think KTM have made a mess of their version of the system, the last models of them seem to be sorted. I just put a deposit on a 21 300 SE Factory today after strongly considering the Gas Gas. Sherco won me over with KYB and I keep hearing that the TPI isn’t dialed in perfect without spending big $$ on a GET ecu setup as well as the WP suspension needs some massaging to make it work as well as the KYB on the Sherco out of the box. Now time to go shopping for all the usual bike protection.

Great review, very honest. I personally feel that the "tunability" went away with the Tpi. As you said, with the carb it's really easy to set the power behavior as you like just with jetting. want some more? power valve, heads and pipe to suit. No so much with Fi, especially not at home. See you at KOM?

@@mixalis6168 How come? you dont even get PV spring anymore and KTM will void warranty if you touch it and break the paint mark. Most of tuning changes require fuel adjustment accordingly. Unless you have 1K GET ECU you do not have any access to the ECU. On the carb? The car itself allows you to do plenty to suit your liking but you can change PV springs, you can change pipe, heads, port timing..anything you want and just to adjust the carb to suit your changes. On the Tpi? None of those basically.

Interesting video and agree. It was funny because I went to a 300tpi demo and the 4st guys thought it was wild and the 2st guys (even beta and sherco guys not mx 2dt riders) thought it was missing some motor. The best way I could describe it was it felt like it was a 275. It was missing that bottom to mid but was insanely smooth and actually revved out nice. I really liked the XPLOR forks. Not that they were the best but really smooth and most of all, predictable. Betas SACHS forks weren't and the KYB's on the sherco were so much better than I ever expected. I have an older sherco and was really considering leaving the brand, really thought the kybs were just hype and no doubt a good marketing thing. Turns out, I liked them a lot more than other KYB equipped bikes I've ridden. I'm torn between wanting to keep 2st's simple and actually really enjoying the ride. Part of me thinks if I'm going to complicate things,I'm just going back to 4it's. Either way, awesome to have choices! Riding the Beta, sherco, and KTM it's really about picking the features you like the most. Another awesome video!

Damn you, Rich Larson!!! I've been up in the air about the Sherco as my next bike. Being in Southern, UT there are no dealerships and the closest one is up North. Since I am a weekend rider, I wasn't too concerned about the parts thing. My biggest factor was what I've heard about the suspension being so much better and not having to spend another $1200-$1500 getting the suspension dialed is a beg cost savings with the Sherco. Add on the skid plate and FMF exhaust and there's a big chunk of change that you'd have to spend on the KTM over the Sherco. I hadn't heard anything about the clutch issue until this review and now I'm back where I started!

I have 70 hours on my 2020 Sherco 300 and haven't had one issue with the clutch. I'll probably throw the Rekluse plates in it at 100 hours but that is normal maintenance anyways. Can't go wrong with the Sherco especially with the KYB. I'm in Colorado and there is a Sherco dealer in Grand Junction so that may be closer for you. I haven't had to really buy any parts as the bike has been extremely reliable to this point but the parts I did need came in pretty quick (2 days). Good dealers like MotoCenterAz have a good online store and will ship the parts just like Rocky Mountain would.

If you're not riding hard enduro constantly with extreme uphills that are hard on ANY clutch, the clutch on the Sherco won't be a problem. You won't regret getting one. A good reasonably unbiased assessment of the two bikes. I would like to comment on a couple of points tho. 3:53 Multiple workshops testing various bikes report that the Sherco produces more HP than the KTM. It probably feels stronger to you as there's such a contrast between the bottom and the top end on the Kato. The Sherco is one long smooth line from the bottom to the top with their electronic power valve. 4:50 Your assessment of the clutch is an isolated case, your own bike may have been one of a very small batch that had undersized linings supplied by the clutch supplier. Even in Hard Enduro racing clutch wear is not an issue with most owners doing multiple seasons without issues. Your experience wasn't typical of the brand.
@IRCTireUSAMoto
@IRCTireUSAMoto 3 жыл бұрын
Right on. Thanks for your thoughts! I wouldn't be surprised if the Sherco has more HP. I'm more talking the general feel of the bike doesn't have the same snap. Much like a 250sx can feel faster than a 300 xc due to the snappy engine feel and CDI. As far as the clutch goes thats really interesting. I'll research it. I've rode two separate Sherco's and they both had the same problem. I've also spoke to a factory Sherco rider who said he had the same exact same experience. But it is an easy fix. The Rekluse Manual replacement is a huge improvement over stock. I loved the Sherco and really hope to do some testing on the 2021's. Thanks for your insights and support!

The biggest factor for me as an xcw rider who mostly rides technical trails but recently had some wide open MX and desert races to compete in was the HUGE gap between 2nd/3rd gear and the suspension reaction over whoops on the xcw. I had never noticed this until I was aiming for all out acceleration/speed in a long race and had to deal with a lot of whoops. The xc handles these areas very well as there is no gap between 2nd/3rd and the linkage suspension does a better job at high speed over whoops or landing massive jumps. If I was mostly riding MX or desert I'd definitely go with the xc. Both are capable they are just tuned slightly to certain applications.

@@bikesbeersbeats so would the xc handle trail riding just fine, like not the very technical stuff but still? Cuz im just getting into this and i wanna be able to do both, medium to hard trails and ride fast with friends, i wanna get experience in both styles of riding and eventually mostly end up in the hard technical stuff. But im definitely set on the 300 ktm/huskie...

@@leom5028 they are both fantastic bikes and neither of them is the wrong choice when starting out trail riding. XC can do it all. XCW is just more tuned to more technical stuff.

I love my Beta too but like Rich stated parts availability can be an issue. I’ve had nothing but back order issues with about 90% of the parts I order from Beta US. Frustrating but I know I need to be patient with COVID (which is likely the culprit).

I’m not interested in buying either one, but less to worry about while riding, is the difference between thinking things through and overthinking. No matter what bike you’re thinking of, anything that’s a distraction, even a weird noise can cause you to make mistakes or go slower. Bringing up confidence in the bike is subjective, but it makes sense to include it in your evaluation.

Far more to go wrong with KTM TPI then Sherco. Current TPI design IMO is a ticking bomb - oil pump or oil hose fails then engine blows...Because of that I bought Sherco and don't regret. Engine and suspension wise Sherco beats KTM all the way. BTW Sherco parts are a lot cheaper then KTM if something goes wrong, but I'm close to 100 hours and bike runs as new.

Ive raced both and to me they were both reliable. Once I put over 200 hours on a single oil pump and top end. Never had a problem. But more things can definitely go wrong. The Sherco was great for me as well. Well over 100 hours. Worked great the whole time.

The oil pumps themselves are rated for over 3000 hours of use in other applications. The problem is dirt ingestion will cause it to slowly fail. As of 2020 the oil reservoir on tpi's have a filter.
