I bought my Honda Fit top of the line in July of this year. I researched another KZbin video that showed every inch of this car and explained all its features. When I went to purchase it, I was telling the sales person what he should have been telling me about this car. And I absolutely love it. I would like to see more advertisesments from Honda about this car on TV. I know their CRV is a best seller, but for all the reasons described in your video and for all the reasons described in the video I first watched (over ten times,) this car is the best. Thank you.

@soilmanted8 жыл бұрын
Yes. Simple. Bring the car to a complete stop, depress the clutch, then put the shift lever where the little diagram on top of the lever tells you that Reverse is located. You may also want to consult the owners manual - it is on-line. It will tell you whether you have to press the lever downward toward the ground, or do anything else besides just move it according to the picture on the lever.

I also switched my fog to LED but left my headlight halogen since it uses reflector tech. My other mod is installing a trailer hitch and mounting a 2 piece bike rack which has been awesome. I can fit a stroller and child bike trailer in the back all the while having my daughter in a full size child seat as well.

this car serves well for around town. it's fun to drive has great cargo hauling great on gas and wasn't bad on a 350 mile highway trip from Phoenix to San Diego getting 42mpg on highway and though a bit buzzy going through the mountain passes on route 8 into San Diego it kept up fine and the comfort level wasn't bad at all on the five hour trip....you will rarely go to the gas station and when you do it won't break the bank! and I might also mention the stereo even in the LX base model has a very good sound to it! I was surprised...a great little big car all around.

My tip: as a guy and someone who drives a lot, the first thing I care about is how the car feels, drives, and is engineered. What is the spirit of the car? If it is easy and efficient to drive, does it do so in a sublime manner and comply with shenanigans? That's first and then second is the cargo holding. I have a 350z right now and am looking at Golf and other hatchbacks with good cargo. I felt you spent very little time talking about all these things. I like very minimal cars that focus on driving and engineering and enjoyable functionality with a classic essence. All the other crap means nothing if that's not there first. Thank you for your perspective though. I enjoyed it, would have liked to hear a more balanced review from your end though.

Any Fit owners have a problem with sitting so low, from a driving safety standpoint ? Even in my full sized minivan, when i come to a corner with a 2 way stop sign, with both sides of the street filled with parked cars, it is still hard for me (a 6 footer) to see traffic coming at me from the left and right. Sitting in a Fit at these types of corners would seem to be 3 times more dangerous. I find this a HUGE (safety) issue in this, otherwise, fabulously-designed little car, and all other subcompact cars from the major players.

It is a good car but the character line along the side is silly and detracts from its appearance. It reminds me of the silly tail fins we saw on cars from the early 60's. The manual shift takes the car from 0 to 60 mph in 9.1 sec. The CVT does it in, like you said, 8.8 seconds. And uses less fuel too! Leather seats may look nice but they don't last as long as high quality synthetic fiber fabrics. They are less comfortable than fabric. Fabric seats can be made in a wider choice of colors and designs. The CVT is wonderful. Getting on to the freeway, you just floor the throttle and the engine rapidly goes up to near redline rpm and STAYS PUT at that RPM while the cvt does all the work of of getting the wheels up to speed. It just gradually changes the "gear" ratio keeping it at the best ratio for maximum acceleration, given the current road speed. Fantastic. The road speed increases, the gear ratio changes - but the engine rpm doesn't move at all. Yes the CVT can make a bit of noise while it is adjusting gear ratios, a kind of whine, but you can grow to like it. Certainly planetary gear automatics aren't exactly silent; they not only make clunking noises as they shift gears, but you also FEEL the clunks in the way the car accelerates. Accelartion in the CVT is SMMOTH, like in an electric car, or a Prius. I definitely prefer thermostatic temperature control to fooling around with knobs to turn flaps. Many of us have thermostats in our centrally heated homes. They are not complicated or expensive. Why wouldn't we not want them also in our cars? The gas tank is under the front seats and intrudes into driver foot room space. To me, this is a significant shortcoming. Legroom for rear passengers is very good. More than many midsize cars and even some large size cars! Really amazing. But at the expense of some foot room for the driver.

Im not sure what you mean, the EX top of the line model in Canada is offered in 6 speed manual and sunroof, etc. CVT is total junk, the fit is a great little vehicle. Plus it sounds like a leaf blower driving a CVT in anything. I'm not sure how CVT gets better gas mileage unless people arent shifting correctly in a 6MT. In the city you can short shift and get the same or better than CVT mileage. When we picked up our Honda fit, we took them both on the highway as the CVT was our rental car, and on a 500km trip Montreal to Toronto, the 6mt got better gas mileage than the cvt, very minor deviations in speed and basically all highway travel. I'm not sure if the MPG is a way to make the CVT more attractive to buyers, but in a small car like this you will always get 40+ mpg regardless of the trans behind the 1.5L. The cvt also comes with added headaches like fluid changes, and other potential breakdowns. Sadly long gone are the days of manual transmissions.
@randallbadgett404011 ай бұрын
I was looking back at older reviews of the Fit since it is no longer available in the states. I totally agree with you that if driven correctly you will almost always get better mileage out of a manual transmission. I had a 07 sport I bought new with a manual transmission and around town I got mid 30's mpg and interstate was always 39 to 42 mpg. They started shoving that CVT and the sales started dropping. The economy is a factor and they started loading it up like a luxury car and priced it out of people's range didn't help either. If they brought it back with the manual or a traditional automatic transmission in all trim levels it would probably sell pretty well again. Most people know if you have cvt it's not fun and you are likely to be in garage having it repaired.

I wish Honda would offer a under to apprx 13 grand model without frills. No power windows, locks, etc. Honda use to offer a Civic base model for years that was very simple. A Deluxe that offered a nice upgrade with AC and nicer trim, then LX luxury and Si sporty models. Now Civics are all upscale, over 16 grand, and large. Can they at least create a base and deluxe option instead of a 15 grand LX Fit? 8.8 seconds is pretty quick for an econo car, actually quite peppy. More than adequate. Heated seats are only on the EX model, btw, not the LX. I do not think the touch screen is on the LX, either? There is econo cars without PW and PL. Not all of us need or want push button start and power everything. 27,000 dollar Kia SOUL? People PAY That? We paid barely 25 grand for a new 2017 Premium Subaru Forester, a far nicer vehicle. The Fit is too close to nicer cars in price, too. The Fit is WAY more equipped than the 80's cars. What econo car has has electronic seats? That is a bit excessive for an economy car.
@jgg2047 жыл бұрын
^ this. the Civic used to be the affordable vehicle. now they cost what the Accords used to cost back in 2004. they need to have a Fit with just A/C...but manual locks, manual windows, basic stereo system, etc. basically just call it the Honda Fit DX. price it at $13,999, that's the price. no MSRP vs invoice crap. the price is $13,999. i would be right on that
@djkenny12027 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do not get it? They create a "new" entry level car as the Civic got more bloated and full of features and replaced it with the Fit. But the Fit is loaded with features and commonly over 15 grand Starting? I really wish they would have a simple one with just AC.
@disneytoysr4fun9757 жыл бұрын
They should come up with a mini subcompact like the Chevy spark. The base model Chevy Spark can be found for 11k and it has manual windows and doors. Altho it does have a 7 inch screen with backing camera, but that might be a safety standard these days idk.
@djkenny12027 жыл бұрын
I see Ads for base Sparks $9995. That seems about right for a lesser brand. There is also my personal pick for cheap, the Mitsubishi Mirage for $10500.. they actually have A LOT of equip and are very efficient and reliable. The Versa is the closest to a modern base model without frills I can think of, often the base 4 door is under $10,000. Honda needs a car that is priced closer to these cars. Even a $12,500 base model. No power anything. Just AC and a stereo.

Good review. Always thought this was a fun, quirky little car that is a good value, especially in it's lower trim levels. Not enough car for me personally, but I always thought of it as the perfect "car for your girlfriend," if you know what I mean. Also, the fact that you can get it in a manual transmission is a HUGE plus. Would I get this over a Fiesta? Not unless it was a Fiesta ST, and that isn't competing with this. The Honda has a better build quality, better interior, and better reliability. Plus, the magic seat system gives you awesome storage/cargo space. I also like how you aren't "gushing" as much over the car (as compared to your earlier videos). Keep up the good work, and remember to not be afraid to bash any features you don't like: be honest!! :)

I would upgrade from 2013 Fit -- but want a hybrid. C'mon now. It's time to get with it, Honda -- in your U.S. model. Also, offer something other than black interior. It's a hot, humid, closed-in feel in a small car. Hel Prefer light gray or something neutral. Also -- it sounds like the volume control is a hassle. You have to go through how many screens just to turn down your music? Glovebox gone? My 2013's model had two (small) gloveboxes. How's the road noise now? Also -- wondering about the very low front end. It will scrape everyday on driveways that have an incline. Front end plastic / bumper -- looks way too low. Does it REALLY improve the gass milage that much? I'd rather have the clearance underneath. Good stuff: for one thing, the "refresh mode" for sitting in back seat with legs up on the pulled-down front seat, lazy-boy chair position, is an excellent design.
@kelvinhii9398 жыл бұрын
Nice review, but I have to disagree your comment about the Fit/Jazz being the segment leader though. It sure is the segment leader when it comes to overall practicality, spaciousness and reliability, despite looking like a small car, I do think it's an impressive little car that doesn't look shabby at all. BUT, when it comes to driving dynamics and fun, its nowhere near the Mazda 2/Scion IA or the Ford Fiesta. On top of that, the Mazda 2 has a way more upmarket interior styling and sexy exterior. The Fit/Jazz has quite alot of body roll and throttle response is not great.
@carbuzzcom8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't like to mention the Mazda2 much anymore because it's no longer sold in the US. As for the Fiesta, yeah, it's fun to drive but not everyone cares about driving factor. The mainstream wants something more like the Fit/Jazz.

Few disappointments in the five year difference. Missed the second glove compartment, upper hatch. Loved having aide mirror heaters vs 2011. Really wish the FM radio provided station and playing song info like my GF's 2011 Impala. Is there an update to the audio system that would fix this? Sadly too, having bought it used, it came with no manual (I know, a pdf is there but less convenient) and only one key. There was probably originally two. But the features, camera, sunroof, heated mirrors (GF likes the AC and heated seats; I prefer less personal comfort myself) as well as the traditional size/space/fuel economy factor I love.

Anything's possible. It all depends on the dealership itself. But now is a good time to buy (mid- to late-summer) because dealerships are anxious to get rid of the previous model year cars to make way for the 2017s.
@mrubuntuking52575 жыл бұрын
A dealer won't sell a car they'd lose money on, unless it's a slow-selling overallocated one that they can't get out of their lot any other way. You might get good cash-on-the-hood that will push a car below MSRP before negotiations start on end-of-year cars, because the dealer group and manufacturer have already made their profit and just need to clear out leftovers at individual dealerships so there's room for next year, but if the finance guy tells you it's below invoice he's lying. The best recent example of this is the 4th-gen Nissan Quest: dealers were lucky to sell 2 per month, but because they were only allocated about that number, you never saw a single cent in discounts. Many dealers even priced it over MSRP because they knew subprime Quest buyers had already been crossed off of every other brand's list financing-wise, except Dodge, whose reliability is even worse. Nissan expected it to be a flop, although I'm sure they were hoping it wouldn't be, which is why they imported a barely-changed Japanese model that didn't really suit the US market to begin with: minimal effort=minimal cost. The C7 Corvette, on the other hand, had been overallocated by most dealer groups because after 50 years of false starts, nobody honestly believed that GM would drop the mid-engine C8 bomb at $59k. Even when the leaks started, people assumed it was a testing mule that would amount to nothing, or that it would be a parallel model to a refreshed C7 that would start over $100k. Now C7s with dealer-backed Callaway tunes and custom paint jobs are being blown out the door for as little as lightly-used stock Grand Sports. You might be the only person a dealer will see inquire about a car all month, but if it's not using up space on the lot out of proportion to the amount they sell, your "invoice price" won't be actual invoice, it will be $500-1k over vs the $1-2k over they normally make. They'll typically push the "optional" extras much harder on a lower-margin sale, and may be perfectly happy if you refuse and walk away to buy from someone else. I guarantee that if they know in advance you want "invoice" and won't budge, they'll etch your VIN, fill your tires with nitrogen, and coat your undercarriage faster than you can walk from the test drive to the finance office. They'll do anything to get rid of a car that they have more of than they can sell, to make room for more popular models, but just because a car sells slow doesn't mean it's one of those *if* it was expected to sell slow. The Honda Fit certainly isn't one of those. Really, ask yourself, how badly are you willing to torture yourself all night and into the next day to save 500 bucks that will be made back on the backend anyway?

I'm hoping for some big changes in the 2018 model later this year. Perhaps a turbo? Or refreshed front and rear. I do not like the taillights. I owned a 2008 Fit and still think it's the best-looking of all three generations.

Ours is manual so there’s always the push to start option should it run out of juice :) But as far as battery life goes, no problems at all.

yes brakes are more than adequate for its size, gas tank is on the small side, but its very cheap to fill and fun fact the gas tank is under the front seats unlike most cars where it is located under the rear seat bench.

Nice video. You've stated this car has a very basic engine 1.5 liter. I purchased yesterday this car, European version called JAZZ. The engine in the JAZZ is 1.3 Liter. I wish it was 1.5 :-)
@carbuzzcom8 жыл бұрын
I wish for you it was a 1.5, too.
@soilmanted8 жыл бұрын
I think Europe has some law where if the engine is smaller than a certain size there is less tax charged somwhere along the line. I've found 1.5 liters to be more than enough for passing and merging onto limited access highway. Engine is not at all overworked cruising at 80 mph. On level surface rpm is down around 2000! Goes up only a little higher on moderate grades. Perhaps on Germany's autobahn the 1.5 liter would be better but in the US I see no need for it. My car feels like it has way more than enough power.

How is the comfort? I'm 6 ft tall and 190 lbs. I'm downsizing from a ram 1500 lol. I heard the middle arm rest is too low... is that the case? Thanks
@carbuzzcom8 жыл бұрын
Let's just say I'm shorter than 6 feet and weigh less than 190 lbs. However, I know others who are similar to your height and weight who find the Fit quite comfortable. But downsizing from a Ram 1500 is quite a big adjustment to make, so I can easily see how the Fit seems too small. Regarding the armrest, I think the best thing for you to go and do is take one out for a test spin and see how it feels. Good luck!

Go for the Honda Fit Ex because it gives you everything you need. Plus, the best has mileage on the subcompact class. It's easy and very cheap to maintain as well as reliability. I own 2019 Honda Fit Ex and it's the best car I ever have.

@delplaya58 жыл бұрын
Two main problems with the Fit is noise level because it has to rev so high at hwy cruising speed and all that glass on such a small car is going to heat that car up like a mofo. Also Honda seats offer very little lower back support imo. Some things to consider.
@carbuzzcom8 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right about the noise level.
@oldtwinsna83478 жыл бұрын
It's a loud car, but much to do with lack of sound insulation. Couple hundred bucks of insulating material will do wonders. Still won't sound as quiet as the Lexus... but you aren't paying anything near it either. Just put a good ceramic tint on the car that takes care of the heat; doesn't have to be a dark tint either.

New manual transmission Fits are difficult to locate, Test drove a cvt which is decent but no manuals to be found in the North Carolina region. I feel the manual would be better for the 1.5 liter engine. Hope that change for 2017.
@carbuzzcom8 жыл бұрын
Driving a manual is certainly more fun for those who know how, but here's the thing: not everyone knows how and Honda (as well as other automakers) know that, hence more CVT-equipped Fits. If you want a manual Fit, consider ordering one direct from the factory.
@oldtwinsna83478 жыл бұрын
Manual transmission cars are becoming hard to find, period. Dealers don't order more than 1-2 per delivery for stock so you just have to order one and expect to pay full price for it . But if you really want that manual, just do it and don't settle for the CVT.
@soilmanted8 жыл бұрын
The cvt gets better acceleration, smoother acceleration, and better gas mileage. Why would you want a manual? The only advantage I can see for a manual is that it may have longer service life. Those gears with teeth seem more rugged and reliable than a "belt" with 100's of tiny parts, pulleys with a very precisely manufactured surface, both of which are subject to wearing out and slipping, much like a clutch slips, plus a hydraulic system to control the movement of the pulley-halves, and a computer chip to control the hydraulics. More things to wear out, or go wrong. Manual transmission doesn't need have hydraulics except a very simple system to operate the clutch. The weak point in a manual is the clutch disk. When replacing the clutch it requires a lot of labor - taking out the entire engine and transmission - but the parts are cheap. Replacing an entire CVT is about the same amount of labor, and may have to be done about as often as a clutch replacement would need to be done - but the parts are likely to be more expensive - a new or rebuilt CVT is likely to be a lot more expensive than a new clutch friction disk.

Unfortunate that the Honda Fit has rear drum brakes. Room inside is the best in it's segment. Tech is good, not great but you won't get all the bells and whistles with a subcompact car. Everything else is really nice.

Fords are absolute trash, we had a FIESTA and it got written off in a crash (THANKFULLY). Only good thing ford makes is the F150 while its in the first few years of ownership/lease. lets go over some of the issues: - 5MT engine would randomly turn off between gear changes or at traffic lights (MAF / electronics issue), ford kept blaming fuse box / driver error. - low mileage vehicle is basically worthless, low resale value - clock would lose time (small but annoying issue). - terrible brakes - poor seating comfort compared to other hatchbacks - body rust early in ownership positive - good mpg (but not better than the fit)

Paddle Shift
@soilmanted8 жыл бұрын
In the models with paddle shifters, S means paddle shifter mode. However if you have a US model LX without the paddle shifters, there is an S and a L. S keeps the transmission at lower gear ratios - for going down moderate hills where you want more engine braking. L is the same thing, only more lower.
