Never played this game before, but I consider myself a huge fan of REGULAR Carcassonne. The idea that this version is "easier" to teach seems insane to me, though! Scoring seems extremely complicated -- roads 1 point each, unless over 4; Markets two points times however many different colors; walls, guards, etc.! People usually have a hard time even figuring out the FARMER scoring in reg Carcassonne! Obviously you have experience with teaching games, so I will take your word for it. To me, this seems like a "next step" up in complexity for those people who have played Carcassonne and are looking for that extra challenge.

When you play this with Zee, does he sing "We built this city!" the whole time? :)

Thanks for turning me onto this one, Tom. Got my hands on a copy (with the cardboard box, I'm not Rockefeller)!

The game is very rare these days... I just got it gifted and replyed a tray of beer and chocolate... So I got it for 11,47 €, that's luck... But without your comment in mind "that's the version, look for it" I would have missed it, so thank you! (And if it sucks I can sell it very pleasing), Thanks Tom!

I just Was able to purchase a German copy in the worden box for a reasonable price yesterday. So happy. This one is really hard to find these days.

I've never played this version of Carc, but it seems like there were tiles that didn't line up (brown section to brown, or green to green) Can someone explain this? It just feels aesthetically un appealing to only match up the roads. Thanks

Yeah I think he had this wrong. Carcassonne has always been roads to roads, farm to farm, city to city.

2:56 -Meeple- Meatball. However interesting version of carcasonne. I like the ideas of walls and there are a lot of buildings but i dont like that you can connect brown to green areas that just looks wrong

Yeah, out of print now, and propably in limbo because of the license transfer from rio grande to Z-man. I should have bough it when it was for 18$(!!) in that second edition.

Can I suggest that the plural of meeple is meeple?

Shouldn't the verdict have been "staying in my collection?" After this review though, I really hope to find someone that owns this to give it a go.

I own the the version with the wooden box aswel :D

It's purely a matter of taste, but actually I find this version quite ugly. The only "Carcassonne" I really like is Reiner Knizia's take on it, "Carcassonne die Burg" - that's the thinking (wo)man's "Carcassonne"!

I hate "new" reviews of out of print games... Why bother? You opened up with your surprised no one has done a video review - maybe because it hasn't been in print for 5 years????

Riley Crowder thanks... But that's if you want to pay OOP prices... I could understand doing a review in light of Zman doing a reprint, but there's no sign of one...

Mike Sprague Well I'm GLADS he did it since I have a second hand copy of the wooden box version and have not had the time to play it yet, and because of this video I have an idea how it differs from regular Carcassonne.

Mike Sprague You're one of those people that'll find anything to complain about, aren't you? For starters, he said he was surprised HE hasn't done a video review of it. And why not? This is a board game channel dedicated to board games. No one says they have to be in print. What's wrong with letting people know about what games there are/have been out there? I actually find revisiting older games far more fascinating than seeing some new game reviewed 5 different times from different people.
@mikesprague9 жыл бұрын
lufia22 you shouldn't presume, I have never left a complaint - I was just expressing an opinion - I'm fine with top 10 or 100 lists with OOP games... I just find it odd, and a bit off putting, to review something that has been so far out of print, with no signs of being reprinted... If it were being reprinted, I'd see a value in doing a review - that's my opinion on the subject, nothing more - and certainly nothing to read into or presume.
