I used to work for an flagship Mercedes dealership, We washed the cars with a broom. Yup, foam and a broom. Brand new G-Waggons still wrapped in shipping plastic would get ripped off, and immedietly washed with a broom. Sadly this is how dealer treats cars. We sold paint protection packages for new and used cars around $2000nzd ($1250 USD) which was just a one stage cut and a middle range ceramic coating. I tried bringing the damage being done to the dealers attention, but it would cost them more to wash and protect vehicles correctly then deal with the one or two complaints from customers that do notice.

To be fair, a demo car would’ve constantly been wiped down without lubrication and constantly washed using improper methods. Perhaps by the time they were ready to get rid of it, the damage done would’ve been well outside of the scope of their “detailer”

Yes it’s unfortunately nothing uncommon but a lot of car lovers just aren’t into detailing and don’t have that awareness that detailing enthusiasts have. The problem isn't dealership specific. What happens is that inventory shuffles around as car inventory ages and is bought and sold by one dealer with another. This is why when you look up the VIN of a brand new car you might notice multiple dealerships listed as the first owner.

Once all the videos have been shown, the owner should refer it to the Dealership and request that they pay for the work that you completed. Also request a refund on the money paid for the Dealership ceramic coating costs. If they fail to do so, then refer it to the Victorian Consumer Authority, if that fails, the ACCC. And if all that fails, go to the various media outlets such as Current Affair. Businesses like this need to be held accountable. Even if the car is sold as a Demonstration car, the owner is still provided with the new car warranty. Thanks Sandro for highlighting the fact that it is a new car, it does not mean it does not come without paint imperfections or worse as you have highlighted in Part 1 of the series.

Mate, solid effort. In my humble opinion as a carpainter of 25 years. I'd be willing to put $20 on it that's it's either had a factory reclear or had a damage from delivery or test drives. I only say this as when you did your pre correction check the black hue was quite different between some of the panels. As in maybe a mixing black has been used instead of a full strength black tinter. Also with the peel being uniform possibly indicates clear being sprayed over the top of existing clear from factory. Car could've easily been resprayed in parts as being a black coverage is far easier than with say a silver or 3 layer or 4 layer tinted clear for that matter. Anywhoo looking forward to part 2. Thumbs up from me mate. Keep up the honesty re car dealers. Awesome work.

Honestly have seen this before on demo cars, they needed to be as clean possible for the showroom so they put them through the cheapest car wash around the corner every other day, or have an intern wash them by hand with a 20 year old sponge... Pretty shocking! I’m just a weekend warrior but I managed to remove all of these defects with my basic DA and careful choice of abrasives.

I have used a Sio2/sic dealership coating and applied it the best I could on my car (clay polished applied etc. I didn't pay for the coating) and it lasted for 3 years until I sold my car. maybe they put on the base coat 2x as a failure. OR the Dealer already let it Respray as a whole. The only thing I wouldnt do would be putting IPA on the Lights. It may destroys the UV protection - IPA in general shouldnt touch plastic. Otherwise its a really nice job! :)

We all hate shiny black plastic bits in are cars that are in key areas we touch frequently I guess chevy decided why not make a the whole car like this. Glad people see this. 99.9% all have paint defects to some extent this car shouldn’t have past the quality control line period.

There was a few minor scratches I found on my brand new 2020 Mustang (Kona Blue) when I was doing a wax detail. However this is just baffling.

The dealership may have been running it through an automatic brush car wash on the regular and then parking it in the sun. Even though they have blow dryers at the end of the wash cycle, not all of the water is removed. Add to that, some inexperienced person buffing on it with god knows what and there you have it.

That’s probably a good estimation

You may have been asked this before, but I'm curious about it. How do you tend to explain your videos to your clients? Is there a box they can check that gives you permission to make a video on their car?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 жыл бұрын
I ask them before hand if they’re ok with it, and there’s actually I lot of clients that ask me if I’d do a video specifically

Can’t wait for part 2 mate,nice video as always. I only have one question tho. How come you never do a pre wash before foaming the cars on the videos? Do you find it pointless? Thanks mate👍
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 жыл бұрын
I find that the snow foam clings and dwells better on dry paint and also works a little better not being further diluted with the standard it water in the car. But honestly I think it’s ok to do it either, it’s just my preference.

If that's just your basic wheel cleaning process, I'd be curious what your top tier wheel cleaning process is. Great stuff

Thanks, and it’s a wheels off process- you can see it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p17MeqVta8R0p6s

im not suprised by condition, when car is in showroom it collect lot of finger prints and dust and im pretty sure they were wiping it every day with the same towel as every dealership do. Hopefully buyer get good price on this one. Cant wait to see final results, which ceramic coat did he choose?

With the amount of paint on that I would be wondering if it had been repainted at the import centre. Possibly a special order colour that was cancelled and they couldn't sell it. Repainted black and then used as demo. For that paint to be marred so badly I would say it is super soft. I would have a look behind some trims in the boot area to see if I could find any evidence. I'm sure you will work your magic and make it as near perfect as possible.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 жыл бұрын
If it was repainted then they completely pulled the car apart because all the jambs and around the trims show a bare chassis and panel paint job, so I doubt it but it’s still possible that something out of the ordinary like that happened.

I'm beginning to wonder if HSV aren't doing the coatings when they have finished the conversations etc as part of the final detail before delivering to the dealers.. I only say this because all the new Camaro's I've seen at car shows the owners have mentioned their cars have been ceramic coated ... I won't make excuses for the detailers at that dealership but many years ago we had a Corsa special vehicle's Corsa at our Holden dealership and it was black and a nightmare to look after because it had to be clean at all times , even though Corsa cars were based on Holdens they weren't "recognized " by Holden as Holdens so we couldn't even put it in the showroom to help keep it clean... gorgeous car though..

Black paint on GM vehicles is really bad. I paint corrected 4 black Camaros last summer and was very surprised how easy the clear scratched
@groundcontrol68763 жыл бұрын
Ugh, I know what that looks like in person and know for a fact that the videos don't do it justice. I once worked on an Audi that was in severe shape with the deep scratches, the swirls, and to top it off, heavy holograms. It was black and to make matters worse, the clear coat was hard as granite.

The only ceramic near this car are the dishes in the dishwasher, guess they used a cheap bad “SiO2” spray.
@Themazcorner3 жыл бұрын
That is just crazy! Maybe the micron reading was due to the "ceramic coating" lol.... If the paint was in that condition I wonder how the car was treated in general before the new owner picked it up. Great video as always mate. Btw do you have labocosmetica and Koch Chemie in AU? I have been trying some the line up from both brands and I have to say it's really good stuff.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes lol I very much doubt that the dealership coating influenced the readings. We had not had labocosmetica or Koch Chemie in Australia in the past but I’m sure if someone is now bringing them in. I have tried some of both brands in the past though and I did get a good initial impression.
