What you said about wanting to give this poor owner his true "new car paint experience" is so spot on, Sandro. It speaks to the pride and care you take in your work, and your understanding of and advocacy for your customers. Truly this customer is no "poor owner" anymore - now he is the PROUD owner of a beast looking like it should!

Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber or more likely their Uro-Wool, I bet would have been a good combo. Before you said it my opinion is it was a Re-Spray as well. I would call Brian at Apex Detail and he will know for sure what type of paint this car has usually off the showroom. That’s if you want to take it that far in understanding what happened to it. I bet he will know if it was factory OEM or possibly was a Re-Spray or something else even. One last thing, you’ve forgot more about detailing than myself and probably even most other detailers. The area you reside in is lucky to have you as your professionalism and attention to detail is extremely admirable.

100% agree with you on your good attitude towards the buyer/owner of this ZL1. Not anyway should they have to put up with mess on the finish of that car. Demonstrator or not, you are buying a brand new car and the experience of that should reflected that on the day they picked it up from dealership. Not that the value of a vehicle shouldn't have anything to do with the experience but a ZL1 is what I would call an high priced vehicle. Not what you would call a cheap and cheerfull run about anymore is it. One more thing to mention is, yeah I don't think I would buy a black vehicle anytime soon. I could not be bothered with the hassle.

What a great start for this year. We all survived 2020, Sandro uploads a new series with 30 minutes each episode, trashed black ZL1 paint restored with a very satisfying 95% defect removal standard, and a part 3 to be uploaded next week. These videos are very therapeutic, feels like I'm relaxing in a beach while sipping my drink. More clients and high end details to come this year, mate. You've finished 2020 strong. Hoping for more quality content this year. Happy new year, Sandro! Cheers from the PH 🇵🇭

Sandro, I'm not surprised that a new car demo would look like that, but for them to hand over the car in such a condition is just disrespectful. Demos at my work are washed by an outside contracted company. All they do is rinse, wash with a stick washing mop, and rinse down quickly, they get paid per car and do not care what kind of wash job they do. The fact that dealership detailers do not care or have the skills and knowledge to produce a beautiful looking car to a customer regardless if it has 5km or 500km is also disrespectful. It's sad dealership detailers get such a bad rep but I am also not surprised why, however there are some of us out there that do our best to provide a perfect looking brand new car as it should be.

I love your videos bro. I agree with you about the paint on these Chevy Camaros I have a brand new Chevy Camaro 2021 2SS just got it last week and I must say the swirl marks in the scratches are everywhere the car came from Michigan I live in Ohio so it had to be driven up here but the weather wasn’t terrible but it is winter right now so The drive from Michigan to Ohio is like 150 miles 200 miles there’s no way the squirrels and scratches happen during that drive so either the car was sitting out on the lot for the past four months or this is just some of the worst paint Chevy could’ve ever used. Like I said I enjoy all your videos thanks for all the knowledge in detailing you’re dropping on us👍🏼

Great vid mate. The thoroughness of your pre-polish tests never ceases to amaze. I do have two questions though... 1)When we say soft paint, are we talking about the clear coat, or the paint job underneath the clear coat? 2) I see in your vids when you do the light reflection, the light reflects perfectly. The reflection on my car looks wavy... I think its called orange peel... Is orange peel the paint, or the clear coat? If its the paint, dont you have to cut through all the clear to get to the paint to flatten it?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
When we refer to soft paint it’s predominantly the clear coat, but a soft base colour paint can certainly still have an impact to the overall softness or sensitive of the finish. Orange peel is also generally a clear coat issue, but some very high end paint shops also flatten the base coat to create the ultimate perfectly flat mirror reflection.

The condition of this cars paint is absolutely commonplace for Chevrolet dealerships these days. They take absolutely zero precautions taking care of them. It’s even worse for showroom cars, as they constantly dry wipe them with whatever old rag they find and a quick detailer. Purchased 2 new Camaros and a Corvette the last 3 years and all looked like this.

Just the worst place to cheap out on a car. The way it looks is a huge selling point. Can’t imagine being newer to machine polishing like myself and having that many different combos to try. Having worked at a new car dealership years ago the first thing I thought after seeing the decon and inspection video and this one was… showroom car. I worked in the detail and body shops and we would prep a car for the showroom only to walk through and see sales guys wiping dust off of them with red shop rags from the service department and even paper towels. 🤦‍♂️ This being a specialty model it probably sat in the showroom for some time prior to purchase. I saw showroom cars look this bad or worse with less than 10 miles on them.

As someone that has several GM car owners. All of them... have looked like this. ONE was marginally better as he demanded we pulled the plastic off the moment it came off the truck. And that one still took longer than needed. The rest I could tell where slammed threw a brushed car wash and dried like garbage until sold. Which is also normal here in the States...

Ohh man.. I want one of those 15mm ShineMate cordless polishers soooo bad! Those machines are beautiful. 😍 I've run into this too. The worst was a black 2013 VW Passat TDI. Hard to cut, near impossible to finish. Even a new Eagle 500 gsm IP wipe would mar. Had to finish it by hand with a foam pad, Perfect Finish and McKee's N914 at 1:8 for a panel wipe, which has saved me many times. I work on a lot of VWs, still never encountered another one quite like that. Great video as always, thanks Sandro! 👍👌✌

First off as one professional detailer to another I have so much respect for your knowledge and ability to take paint correction to a whole another level. Personally, I've had a similar experience with very soft and unfriendly paint on a 2020 Ford Mustang (also black but no metallic). Everything you experienced with this car's paint in your video I experienced with the 2020 Ford Mustang. I'm curious to know if you tried Optimum Hyper Polish (spray) paired with Rupes white ultra fine finishing foam pad? It's my go to for very soft/unfriendly paint (That's an understatement in regards to soft/unfriendly paint). I spend many hours paint correcting cars to show car quality (95% overall improvement in paint clarity). The car you paint corrected in this video is basically what I do on a weekly basis (professional level quality). I only point that out not to brag but to emphasize the real struggles and challenges of paint correction to professional level quality. With that being said I have not tried NV Finesse Fine Compound...If you have tried Optimum Hyper Polish (spray) how does it compare to NV Finesse Fine Compound? I'd like to hear your feedback. (I've used so many fine polishes and keep going back to Optimum Hyper Polish) Looking forward to hearing back from you. May God bless you and your business!!!

Thanks mate I really appreciate it. Unless you do high end paint correction on a regular basis it’s hard to understand or appreciate all the challenges and frustrations that go along with it but I think that can be said for many trades and crafts when pursuing high level outcomes! Although I have tried quite a few Optimum products I haven’t used Hyper Polish so I can’t speak to that, but definitely always open to trying recommendations. What I would say is that we all work a little differently, and the best thing you can do is use what personally gives you the best results as I know others have used products that I love without achieving the same results and I’ve used plenty of highly recommended products that just didn’t work out well at all. We all a little different that way and I guess that’s why there’s a million detailing products out there!

Such words of wisdom Sandro. I bought the ShineMate 3/12 and 5/12 cordless polishers after your reviews. One as a kit, the other a skin. They have changed my ability to carry out paint correction. I’m no longer tripping over cords draping cords around my neck and in the three jobs I’ve had since the beginning of December, the ease and confidence with which I approached the work made the process fun again. The consequence was very happy clients who have all booked maintenance details in 8 weeks!!

Beautiful as always..finally got to see you in the front window reflection..wearing your head cam..i hope you are using some form of ear protection. @@yaishmatheen4274 I seriously feel for you my friend. I am in my 50s and have had it for 25 years..and you never ever get used to it..there is some work being done at the uni of Michigan in the states..which is leading the way to a possible treatment. Those who have this condition know how bad it is..those that dont..just type into youtube tinnitus noises or sounds and listen to what us sufferers go through every second our lives whilst awake. Dont give up hope my friend..you are young and its only a matter of time b4 its really treatable.

Do you still use a 15mm throw DA polisher? I have a DA15 and 125mm plate size and im wondering about buying a 21mm throw. Do you think it's worth?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I use 15mm DAs all the time and if you feel you want to achieve a slightly faster cutting ability on the larger flatter areas of a car then a 21mm with a 6” plate can certainly be worth it, it just depends on your needs and wants.

Happy New Year Sandro. Cracking start to 2021 with your content. Out of curiosity, when you say you spent the better part of a day testing, is that like 5-6 hours or more? Is that also because you were involved in shooting the footage we are seeing?

Hi Sandro. I wonder how PolishAngel polishes can deal with this paint? Have you still use PA? I remember your old post about PA polishing range and you rate them very high.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
I do really like PA polishes but one thing I found out later on is that they have a very short shelf life many 3mths or so and after that their performance seems to diminish quite noticeably and add the coat which is quite high and they just become very difficult to justify if you have dispose of them relatively quickly.

Especially with paint that was ranging from 250-400 microns it’s just too difficult to gauge how much clear was removed but I’d be surprised if it was more than 5 microns I removed in total.

Great video. Did make those Nano wool pads yourself, like you did in one of your other vids? And will a good ceramic help to protect a soft paint like this to a reasonable extent?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, thanks but no I didn’t make those smaller pads and a good coating will help a bit but coatings also take on the character of the paint so it’s not going to turn it onto a harder paint or finish.
