@@HarperStl I tend to associate the Cardassians with 1870-1945 Germany. A strong state and military that shapes public mindset, the perception of their way of life and/or race being inherently superior, their desire to insert themselves in the world/galaxy stage as a new and influential player to be respected and feared (as Germany did in the late 19th century, which was dominated by the UK, France and increasingly the US), and last but not least, their expansionist impulse and attitude towards "lesser" neighbors and their territories (Bajorans always reminded me to the Poles, being an oppressed and deeply religious people who watched their land being sucked dry to give their subjugators "breathing space").
@lizardlegend424 жыл бұрын
@@nikomann88 Britain seems to fit most of those descriptions you just made. Personally I always saw the Bajorans as like the Irish (although I may be a little buased since I am Irish, although Poland probably does work better) and the Maquis were an analogy for the IRA. In the first tng episode about the Maquis Data literally uses "the unification of the Irish in 2024" as an example of times terrorist insurgencies were successful when talking to Picard. That episode was banned in Ireland and the UK as a result

Dude that was totally cool! I've been caught up in DS9 this past year learning everything. I had this dream last night Gul Dukat was back & he was visiting his Son on Dieradan Prime, Outpost 5 who himself was now a man with a son of his own making Dukat a Grandfather. His skin looked so much realler then the series! It had pore texture & a subtle moisture glaze. I focused/zoomed in mid conversation where he stopped his Son mid sentence who was explaining that the Jem Hedar had beaten him. As Dukat looked over his Sons bruised beaten face he exclaimed exhaustively "You are not my Son! No Son of mine would put up with this! I didn't teach him to behave this way!" Then the embodiment of his Son admitted he was a freightened clone & that the Jem Hedar had killed his Son creating him to take care of the child. You could see Dukats patient frustration. I thought he's in observation of the grandsons care & semi attached to the figure of his Son realizing it's not his fault for being a clone, but he's also cross examining what he wants to use him for & if & when he'll cut this imitation weakness of a Cardassian loose. It was pretty dang vivid & entertaining. I think somebody upstairs with a better understanding of existence, humors my amusement with sci-fi for unknown reasons. Because my mind generates script, set & detail far superior than any movie.
@Southernburrito6 жыл бұрын
I almost forgot to mention, in the dream the skin had a pinkish tint, not Bajoran either. If the son he spoke of having to Sisko in the series was real, it'd be interesting how that happened.? This would also mean he's not exactly bound by linear existence thru the Pah Wraith. It was just a dream, but that's an interesting accent/twist. Dukats face was so fleshy & real. I don't want to say like a frogs, but their was just something to it. I knew I was dreaming but I was like okay that's real, not mask or makeup.

I hate how one lie by a single Cardassian torturer who was already trying to break Picard with other lies (eg. 5 lights) is used to define Cardassian history repeatedly. And we know it's a lie because we see the problem he claimed it solved still exists. Which raises the question of if that was even a problem before the military took over. Obviously, the inconsistencies are the result of multiple writers who only cared about creating dialogue for a paycheck, but we are left with that dialogue as canon and have to work out the implications. And the implications are that the good the military did is propaganda that isn't reliable or likely. It's easy to say after years of occupation that things were worse before as a way to placate the people who are losing any ability to pretend a short term military intervention is now a permanent status.
