you need a string trimmer with a clutch for that motor design to work, but also needs to be a bit of a bigger string trimmer too

Peter, you need to use fluted plastic board. Check out the channel of paul elkins. He makes a lot of mini houses/camper bikes etc. All from this stuff. Strong and waterproof. It is carton made of plastic. Cheap and pretty strong.

Amazing! You definitely need a re-do on that one! Think about doing "stitch and glue" using 1/8" door skin (luan plywood at Lowes/HomeDepot) Better material... less glue... probably about the same cost.

great video and great fun . Having built cardboard boats( paddle powered ) I can say part of the fun is sinking . One of the rules was no two part coatings. One was a pedal powered hydrofoil, he was the fastest!

Great effort I could tell before you flipped the boat at the 7:06 mark that the boat is top heavy which is why the steering inputs needed to be small. Gotta steer a boat like that very slowly. I would suggest making it wide and flat for stability and strength.

Maybe you could try to build one of the 8ft "flatty" hydroplanes. Usually they are built from plywood and use a small outboard motor, but cardboard and foam could probably be used. These little things are designed for lakes, and they go like hell! Your electric power would probably be great for that. Plans are available through Glen L, or Popular Mechanics.

So theres this sailboat, and its kind is called a gillette sailboat, because underneath, there was a wooden blade, and then a block of wood at the end of it, and it would kinda anchor the boat so it wouldnt flip, and if it tried, the lond blade would kinda push the water away. Mabye if you did that, the boat would be more stable.

Peter that was yet another crazy creation, but it had me thinking as it looked like it was doing better on the second attempt would you consider trying to build another out of that new thicker waterproof foamboard they are using at Flite Test. The Flite Test guys built a huge war ship so a speed boat should look and perform much better in that foam.

I use to make boats out of cereal boxes and tape, then spray painted them to make them waterproof. To motorize them, any small electric motor tied to popsicle sticks attached to the back would do....this was 56 years ago...then raced them in our pool. Still have one on display.

You guys should have covered the boat hulls with fiberglass after you built the boat out of cardboard. That way it wouldn't absorb the water and fall apart on you. You could coat the inside of the boat with fiberglass as well basically using the cardboard structure for the fiberglass to stick to. Once the fiberglass cures you'll have a much more durable boat.
