Why in the world is a 20 minute walk to town such a big deal?
@thehungrygoldfish9 ай бұрын
The walk there isn’t the problem. It’s the walk back when you bring back all the stuff up you bought. Yes you can bring a cart but she had a small child at the time so bringing a child in a stroller plus a diaper bag full of stuff and her purse and a shopping cart full of stuff on top of that, 20 minutes will seem longer than it actually is.
@litsci18779 ай бұрын
Yes, if you're just a man on your own it isn't. If you're a mum with a child to get ready and out the door and entertain along the way forwards and back, to whom it's an eternity, it matters. You have to put yourself in others' shoes and accept that they're different from your own, that you're not the universal standard.

The thing is, from what I'm getting is, halfway through, if you want a location that is good for families, but think you can fit your budget for a smaller house, I think the Canadian couple are out of luck. Penarth is not up-and-coming. It has come. Smaller houses have been made into the larger family homes and the prices show that. It is the location for families because it has already become the location for families. There seems little room to create, because it's been done.

@leoderbyshire107614 күн бұрын
I live in Cardiff and when house hunting i noticed a weird thing amongst budgets. You can find everything on that list easily around 200-300k range but up the budget you actually started finding less and smaller places. and much worse ugly homes. Money isn't everything and Wales defiantly proves a point. Try lowering your budget when shopping around Wales.

I wonder what year that was because when Kirstie said that the woman was used to the size of the houses in Canada for half of the money I was like WHERE in Canada???? Definitely not in BC or Ontario, houses here in Ontario cost millions of dollars. With £500k which is around only CAD 860k you can only buy a one bedroom condo in a high-rise building with other hundreds of units and fire alarms sounding on a daily basis lol For that money she’d only buy an entire house in a very remote area, she would need a car to go everywhere as no town would be within a 20min walk and the house would definitely lack in character and period features 😂 What a fussy woman smh
@thehungrygoldfish6 ай бұрын
Did you listen to their intro by any chance? lol They said they lived in Ireland for 14 years. This episode is from 2015. They left Canada in the early 2000s when prices were much cheaper.
@LLauraM6 ай бұрын
@@thehungrygoldfish LOL did you get triggered?? Haha I did listen to the intro but you clearly missed my point! It doesn’t matter how long ago they lived in Canada, the only relevant information is the year of the show because that’s when they were purchasing the house, right? So if the woman is stuck in the past thinking of the “size of the houses she’d get in Canada for half of the money” 15 years prior then she’s just dumb.
@thehungrygoldfish6 ай бұрын
@@LLauraM They haven’t lived in Canada for over 14 years, hon. They have to base it on what the prices were when they left. Also, we don’t know where they’re from. There’s more to Canada than Vancouver and Toronto, lol.

@@thehungrygoldfish “They have to base it on what prices were when they left”. Your “logic” is basically: oh it’s so frustrating that now in 2024 I can’t buy a car for the price they were in 1995. 😂😂😂 The woman in the video clearly isn’t only dumb one, “hun”.
@thehungrygoldfish6 ай бұрын
@@LLauraM Well, they were specifically talking about it in the past tense. They never said they could buy a bigger house in Canada now for less than their budget. All she said was that she got used to the prices and then they moved to Ireland and had to pay more. But regardless, it doesn’t matter because they’re most likely from a less expensive area anyway. Like I said, there’s more to Canada than just Toronto and Vancouver. Just because you don’t live in those two specific cities doesn’t mean you live in tbe middle of nowhere! That’s ridiculous for you to even say that! lol

Phil and Kirsty are the Dynamic Duo of Real Estate. Clever Phill, in his understated sense of humor. Charming Kirsty with her witty punch lines. Not to mention that she looks adorable. You two are awesome, Now, I have two questions: Why don't the sellers get their s*** out so the buyer can see the house and not their dirty couches and tattered curtains? How about covering those rainbow walls? I've never seen anything like this. If you do this in the states, you wouldn't be able to give away one of these houses. I'm in search of a home, myself. Two days ago my agent took me a couple. The family is still living in the house, but couldn't possibly tell. The house was PRISTINE. Disposable booties to pull over your shoes - you know, white carpet. Moving on. My 3rd point: PRICE. Try buying a new abode in the states, and $500,000 to $600,000, will get you a very nice, modern, two bedroom two bath with carport, mobile home. You could still buy a decent house for just over a million. Welcome to America/Silicon Valley.
@paulinethomas16119 ай бұрын
You miss the point, they want to buy in the UK. They are not looking to buy in USA. Why would they, their work is here and so are their extended families. Not everyone wants to live in the states. So don’t compare the two. You live in a country with lots of space so land is cheap and where you get lots of houses which are roomier with much space between them. In UK we live in a wonderful country which is an island, so space is at a premium, land is expensive. You need to realise housing is in short supply here and when it comes to the house selling market there are many buyers waiting for each house to come on to the market. Perfect house does not mean perfect in the sense you are hearing it. In UK location is everything. The right location with good community, schools and shopping is far more desirable than a huge artificially staged house miles from anywhere. The house can be remodelled and worked on to make it the perfect home to the style of the purchasers. Finally people here don’t want to live in the mobile homes you suggest.
@DreambigGabriela8 ай бұрын
@@paulinethomas1611 Ah, Pauline, talk about missing the point. It was a simple comparison. A clean home is not an "artificially staged" house (whatever that means), miles from anywhere. We have communities, just like anywhere. Also, I was not suggesting that any of you should move to the US, God forbid.
