Why did they sell their old place if it was so perfect? No house you buy from a stranger is full of heart and feels like home. You have to bring that and live in it.

Makes me realise how truly lucky we were. We were out for a drive one summer evening and saw our perfect home . We weren’t even looking. We waited a year then it came on the market. We bought it that morning without even seeing inside. That was 40 years ago. We never had one regret. I believe in fate ❤

I love these programmes and am a binge watcher that's for sure. But couldn't help noticing and not for the first time , that surely it's a no a big 'no' to sit on someone's beautiful bed! It was 800 square feet, so pretty small, and they sold it for 700,000 pounds. They said it around 33 minutes in the video >.< It's obvious they cannot get a house 5 times the size for 2 adults, the kid, and mom-in-law for 1M pounds in the same area. They are very unreasonable. They want a huge yard, a MIL annex, a home office, 4 bedrooms, etc. etc. for only 40% more in price.

It seems to be, in Britain, that that's not a first choice for many homeowners. they seem to look, with disdain, upon new builds, as they call them, and don't like newer properties. you would think that's a great option: to buy some lovely land and custom build a beautiful home on it. but they don't do that because it lacks "character" and "a feeling". 😐

Buy a house for the next few years while you keep looking, instead of continuing to pay another persons mortgage. The couple who sold their "perfect" house because a child was born seems extreme, particularly if they hadn't found another house. At 33:05, we finally hear that the "perfect" house was 800 square feet. So, what we were shown at the beginning of this episode was misleading, because that house did NOT look like a one-bedroom house, but certainly sounds like it was. As for their "search", if you've been house hunting for 2 years with a million-pound budget, it's time to admit you do not want to find a house. Even 20 years ago, you could go to an agent, give them your budget and your "wants" and they would find you several possibilities within your parameters. I understand wanting to buy a house that has "that feeling", but if you spend 2 years and haven't found it, there's more to the story. The wife looks miserable, and they both have unrealistic ideas of "quiet". I can only imagine that it's gotten worse for them since 2009. At least the son would be well out of it now and at university, wherever he grew up! For me, house #2 (the Georgian) would have been a "yes"; I cannot imagine what the price of that house is today (2023)!

In particular, the husband.Therapy sessions might help him to unlock the deeper reason why he can't let go of or move on from that first house. Talk about grief! You've brought up some good memories of life being a veteran. It's true about not seeing the people who you have trained with. The amount of time you've met and bonding with a person is brief and sadly we learned this way of life. My kind of America doesn't exist. I've lived in several states and countries and for the most part I've stood out by being one of few black people. The military community has exposed me to see /live around people of different backgrounds/ethnicity/etc. inwhich had a great value to me. My America so far is NYC, there you can find people of various ethic groups. Despite its numerous flaws I feel at home the most when I was in New York. Outside the country I've lived in Japan/Italy/ Spain/and Australia(briefly) and it was Spain that I felt most welcomed. I tried to go to Cuba but there were not spots available for me. Stateside was I was stationed in Virginia/ California/ Illinois/ Mississippi.

Having lived in England and having English family, every time an Englishman says "The rooms are quite small." makes me laugh. The typical "row house" that you see on this show are two up/two down, bathroom on the ground floor, usually off the kitchen (which the man notes at 15:21). It's simply the way the back-to-backs were built - especially when the toilet facilities were outside. I found that the rooms weren't too small; the furniture, particularly the settees were TOO big. Regardless, it is interesting to think that not that many decades ago, a family of six or more would have lived in a lot of the older homes that are shown - whether or not "happily", who knows, but their expectations would not have been quite so extraordinary. All that said, LLL is one of my favourite programs because Phil and Kirstie are always a treat to listen to/watch as they navigate the market/clients' whims.

It seems to me watching these kinds of shows that everyone wants the right to drive a car but no one will accept the consequences for that right: air and noise pollution; destruction of green spaces to build roads, car parks etc. Inequity too. Rich people can drive their cars but afford to live away from the noise of other people's.

This was so sad. The older couple both look like they were in mourning but it is not for a human but a building. They looked at huge homes compared to what they had with a couple with beautiful gardens and land. I felt bad because while they were so centred on mourning what they sold they were not centred on the months going by and their million pounds losing weight and thus losing its buying power. While mourning the brick and mortar they sold they were left joyless such a shame as every day is so precious as no one knows what tomorrow with bring so grab it and squeeze every bit of joy out of it. I felt really bad for Phil as he showed them some lovely big and beautiful homes but they had yet to bury the home they left behind. 😟

People with a million dollars or pounds seem to think the whole world should crawl to them on its knees. They tend to be entitled and arrogant from what I've seen. After all - a million pounds doesn't go that far in the Home Counties, and 2 million is a joke in Central London. The period house I grew up in in the Midwestern U.S. would easily be worth over 1 million in England. The husband needs to get over himself and face the fact that 1 million isn't that much in the location he wants. However, millionaires are the hardest people to find property for because they're just using Phil and Kirsty as servants to check out the market for them.

I am really confused. Why did they sell their beloved home, because they had one child? Its very strange. All they talk about is their love for that home. Tbh nothing will make them happy, because they are hanging on To the dream of when they were happier in life. That is what they remember is happy memories. And nothing else can make you happy if you arent happy within.

Looking at that second million dollar house on 3/4 of an acre but looking like a huge plot all the way around the house, I wonder, are British acres bigger than American ones? Or is the plot size in addition to the 'peoprty' (house) area? Or are these camera people just amazing at making small yards look huge?

Area size is universal it may differ in how we describe it : km ,acres, miles , for a competing similar example, but it's the same.

Watching it again, I was wrong. It was only 'a third of an acre', half the size of our place, yet it has that enormous house, looks to be at least twice the size of ours (32' x 40' footprint) and lawn and outbuildings, and plantings and all. I just don't see how they fit all that onto 1/3 of an acre! It's amazing! Having the house literally on the lot line helps some (we have to be at least 5' off here) but it's still amazing. Or, is just the garden, just the grassy area, subtracting, somehow, the footprint of each building, the one third acre?

Eight hundred square feet and they sold it for 700,000 pounds?!?!? That's an apartment in the US, it's TINY, and £700,000? Incredible. Folks, after two days you stop hearing road noise. Get over it.
