Long ago, the Eye of Ugin existed in harmony. Then everything changed when six years later Oath of the Guildwatch was released and the Eldrazi Winter began.

this requires a very specific hand though, to be able to win on t2. the fact that 1 land made all your other cards so much more powerfull made it pretty easy to see that eye of ugin shouldve been banned. try playing hammer now in a modern league and see if u can go better than 2-3.. so much artifact hate in all sideboards nowadays

@antalwahlers3574
@antalwahlers3574 9 ай бұрын
@@e5858 You "cheated" out Memory Jar with Mana Vault, Lotus Petal, Black Ritual, Tinker, (or if needed, later with Goblin Welder) used it so both players drew another 7 cards, used all your newly drawn mana cards to play another Memory Jar and/or Megrim, declared end of turn. All players must "discard" the cards drawn with Memory Jar and since it was your turn, your opponent probably hadn't played any of the 7 or 14 cards drawn with the jars, and then Megrim deals 2 damage to an opponent for each card he discards. So you needed 1 Jar + 2 Megrims, or 2 Jars + 1 Megrim to deal 28 damage to opponent. Since you could do this as soon as turn one, it made for some very stupid games and the card was almost instantly banned. I always thought they should have just reworded "discard" to "put into their graveyard" but meh.

I was playing isshin to double attack triggers. And i had a card which made spells 1 cheaper if you attacked alone with a samurai or warrior. I then used a card to give that creature an ability which sends a copy to my hand when i attacked with it. It gave me two copies because of isshin and i cast those copies. Then on the next turn i got a 10/10 eldrazi in my hand and i attacked with one samurai. It made the eldrazi 6 cheaper. And i won

I mean Eye of Ugin was good back in the day, although the Eldrazi deck was a lot slower back then. But all that mattered was, getting enough mana, to cast 2 Kozilek per turn. Drawing you 8 cards per turn, and you just fill your hand with counterspells and ramp. 10 Forest 3 Island, 4 Eldrazi Temple. For 17 lands that produced mana, then you ran 1 Eye of Ugin and 4 basic fetch lands. Then you ran a lot of 4 ofs, such as Explore, and 2 of every big boss Eldrazi monster. So you began with ramping, playing cards like Explore, and Oracle of Mul Daya, you then get to 8 mana due to Eye of Ugin cast Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, draw 4 cards, no matter if they counter it or not. Fill your hand back up and play even more cards. You could basically play Emrakul, the Aeons Torn pretty easily, and yeah, and just playing Emrakul, you'd basically win, as your opponent wouldn't have any lands left, after you declared an attack. Annihilator 6 is broken. Annihilator is broken.

It was the best deck in modern for a time. Also eye of ugin, a bulk rare from worldwake and mm2015 spiked from $3 to $55. I basically traded 20 eye of ugins that I had gotten from drafts and opening boosters at 14 years old for an entire legacy death and taxes deck from store credit. Good times. I think you could honestly unban it right now though.
@leftysheppey
@leftysheppey 2 жыл бұрын
Nah, I think it needs to stay there. The deck was extremely resilient and had explosive early games and value late games. Not to mention midgame being a nightmare because the creatures are all so big. Eye of ugin being a tutor for more creatures was so good late game. Along with things like chalice of the void and pithing needle, you have a deck that hoses other combo decks. Don't forget all is dust, too. There's a reason eldrazi decks were still good for a couple of years after the eldrazi winter

It is just strictly worse Legacy Eldrazi, best deck ever has never been Modern legal. Maybe it one of those early combo decks back when there was no 4 card limit. They can consistently win on turn 1 through force or two. However they have no turn 0 interaction of their own so on draw they are completely soft whatever their opponent does on their turn. Maybe flash hulk is best deck ever, they had interaction and had turn 0 win, london mulligan would help with their consistency.
