I was following along with my own deck of cards and when you did the shuffle at around 6:20 and revealed those sections flipped, I completely lost my s*** because I turned the deck over and it had worked perfectly! the best part about learning tricks and tricking ourselves as well in the process 😊 makes me feel like a kid again.

Yes!! Can 100% relate! There’s no better feeling than trying something out, expecting it to not really work, and then it happening just perfectly!

Card College is great--another suggestion from it that I like is: doing a couple of tricks with the pre-set deck that don't affect the order first, and false shuffle/cut between acts. I have a 2-part packet trick that I do first now into it, and it all flows really well!

You can make it even more amazing if you do it with odds/evens instead of red/black. You can spread to show they are apparently all different before a card is selected.
@CardMechanic

True, but when doing the riffle shuffle, you would need a really good eye to differentiate between odd and even vs just red and black. If you can do it, you 100% should!

Great set-up. I'd probably end it placing it as the fourth card face down and have them pick two cards ( the other cards of course removed) then pick one card (they will pick their card or the other of course at that point) then the final reveal

An oldie but a goodie! I first saw something similar to this from A Million Card Tricks. For the shuffle, I believe it is called the “Ireland Shuffle”. I saw that from Michael Muldoon in his video, “Cheat Feat”. Going to perform this as it looks really fun! EDIT: #Roadto48K!

This is the type of effect everyone should have under their belts: a "workhorse" routine that never fails. It's probably a good idea to really ham up that casino wash shuffle, and get as many spectators as possible involved. Like, do it on the floor if there's space, and have people use their feet to kick everything around and make a real mess. Have fun with it! 😂

Nice trick. Thanks for sharing. But thinking a marked deck alot easier (lol) unless of course you would have your back turned when they chose a card and put it back from the start?
@CardMechanic
@CardMechanic Жыл бұрын
That’s a good point, but you won’t really find a marked deck available anywhere when hanging out with people (unless you bring your own). But yup, would work A LOT better if the deck is gimmicked in any way
@StViers
@StViers 11 ай бұрын
The strength of this effect is that it isn't marked, and could be done with a borrowed deck--you could, over the course of a couple tricks, sort the cards red/black and then this trick feels impossible to reverse engineer. Marked decks are a great tool for gig magicians (from stage to parlor to walkaround), but there's something to be said for tricks you can do socially with someone else's cards.

I knew this trick, but with a very different presentation: You need at least 2 spectators. You prepare the deck. You choose one person the assist you, maybe with some blabla to make it more entertaining, whilst you shuffle with this special method. Then you let one of the spectators choose a card, though he/she may not show it to your helper and of course yourself. Then the card goes back in the deck as seen in the video. Next you shuffle it again with the same method, maybe with a fake cut at the end. Then you turn to the person who is going to assist you. If this person is in on the trick he/she can now act up a bit. But I think even better, you choose a random helper, make sure that everyone knows that that is actually not a prepared helper. Then you present the cards to him/her in way that no one else can see them, not even you, and ask, to take out a card that stands out for some reason to him/her, maybe with some magicy language like how brainwaves can align between 2 persons or whatever. Hope that makes sense.

The Ireland shuffle is cool, but to us, not to the audience who should be unaware of it. They just see a pick-a-card trick for the thousand'th time.
@StViers
@StViers 11 ай бұрын
To be fair, they see a "pick a card" trick where you can very fairly show them the deck isn't marked, you didn't force a card or peek it (when they expect you to), and they get to help lose the card with real shuffles. Much more powerful than a key card version of the effect.

The spectator gets to shuffle, and during the part of the trick where they'd want most to (while "losing the card"). It can also be done with a borrowed deck, as long as you have enough time to get the cards sorted while doing other tricks

@@CardMechanic fun for who? Cleverness is overrated. It’s a cool method for sure. But to have a full deck set-up, meh just use a marked deck. You can still simulate all of the conditions. All you’re doing in this trick is a clever way to peek it. That’s it. If your peek is invisible, then any peek will suffice.

Marked cards are a great tool for a gig magician of all levels, but not necessarily the best for impromptu or casual magic, or magic for a more skeptical audience. Laymen know marked cards exist, and are likely to suspect (even if they don't vocalize it) that it's marked cards if that's the most obvious way something impossible happened. Having them pick and return a card in a way that a traditional peek/marked deck wouldn't work (especially if you emphasize that "many people would just do x, but here I can't be doing that) can create a more powerful reveal, especially as at the end the deck is fully examinable, where marked decks aren't--the riffle test is something that I've had even kids do instinctually to see if the backs are all actually the same. Yeah, at the end of the day this trick revolves around a pretty niche way to peek, and the "effect" is just pick and find a card that can be done literally thousands of ways behind the scenes, but the strengths of this one: 1. Can be done with a borrowed deck, as long as you can get the cards sorted over the course of a couple tricks, or a really good at culling 2. It does a great job of obfuscating the method (what people mean when they say magician-fooler), because it's very hard to reverse engineer, and you can easily tailor your presentation (ala the Tamariz' magic way) to make it clear that there is no peek or force as the method, while in fact it is a peek, but an obscure one. 3. It requires no sleight of hand to perform (I'd not call the shuffle a sleight), meaning that it's a great trick for beginners to perform, as they can focus on the performance in the "visual" parts of the trick, because all the work was done as prep. Make it worth knowing, and definitely shouldn't be written off with a trite "JuSt UsE a MaRkEd DeCk"
