Hey Jamie and Jenn! I really enjoyed the video and massive thanks to Jenn for sharing her story. I'm a current 3rd-year commerce/ law undergraduate student and had many questions that were addressed to Jenn in the video so it was really insightful. I wanted to ask whether grades play a massive role in applying for internship or clerkship position within the penultimate year? Or a balance between grades and extra curriculum greatly assisted in the application process? I do recognise having high grades and participating in extracurriculars within uni can be quite challenging so was curious.

Aw thank you so much, I’m really happy you enjoyed this video! In my experience, a balance between grades and extra curriculars really helped me. I think extra curriculars made me a more well rounded student. I was able to draw on them in interviews (eg connecting my experience editing for a peer reviewed law journal with my attention to deal and communication skills) and I think they were just a great way of seeing what being a lawyer might actually look like (eg negotiation competitions, volunteering at a community legal centre) and make connections with other law students and the profession more generally. It was definitely challenging balancing studies/work/extra curriculars but for me, I felt it was worth it. Hope that helps! 😊

Great video. I am thinking of going to law school at the U of Melbourne. Did you feel like going their gave you an advantage since it’s ranked number 1 in Australia and highly ranked in the world? Also, if I were to study law at Melbourne, what are my employment opportunities in Melbourne compared to Sydney? Thanks :)
